Marilyn Barkley now Cassidy. Thank goodness for the loving parents who hopefully outnumbered the bigotted ones. you know, another group from whom i think we at Shaker were segrated were Catholics. St. Dominics Church was right up the street, but I never met a kid who attended the school there until 6th grade at Miss Pettingales dancing school. and our high schools never mixed either. I never even heard of St. Ignatius high school until i was in law school A little insulated, ya think?
OMG. Jerry, I was in your class.. i am positive... Miss Murphy grade 2. I remember it like it was yesterday. I am so happy to hear your recollections and perspective. We were kids and there was so much we didnt know. And Mr. Wolf. God Bless him.. and you. P.S. love the watermelon story. lolol.
If the vast majority of blacks were as well spoken as you, the degree of racism would be substantially less. Sorry that's not politically correct but that is reality.
You and I have never met, but Cindy (Lane Sloan) has told me about you (all good!)
I watched your documentary and want to thank you for making it and for allowing us to share it with you. It is so important for these stories to be told (and told well) and preserved. Thank you. Richard Sloan

My sister and I integrated Laurel in the early 60's...
I can relate to everything you said.
Well done, Jerry.
Tell your mom my mom, Hortense, loved her.
