For the 1st time in history the technological advances in war in the 20th century were waged on a massive scale.

People who were sent to fight were happy to fight, they thought it was going to be fun. After the war many soldiers had shell shock and suffered traumatic effects of the war

for those of you who say " yea we kicked ass' or the "Jumping into an enemy trench, what a smart move" shut the fuck up these guys had no idea what to expect in this new war

When I heard this movie was being made, I was excited. But it was a huge letdown. So many things in this sequence bug me. Them waiting to fire until they're like, twelve feet away?  Bullshit. Those rifles will reach out to 1000+ yards, and that was not what happened. That shot of the German kid just sitting there in the midst of the chaos? Stupid. Gross saying, "Here we go," like it's just another day at the office? Really stupid. Running across No Man's Land for....god, it's all so dumb.

That kid sitting there i is very realistic beceasue that shit does happpen, and stuff like it. People can shut down in war where their mind ceases to function properly, your perception, everything. What I don't like is a movie this shitty pausing to use a filmic device such as that, especially since it was basically lifted from Saving Private Ryan. It was a stupid war fought over nothing, and perpetuated for years because Europe's national leaders were too proud and too greedy to stop it. There was nothing noble about it.

These people died to enrich parasites. The resulting historical event was an obscenity to humanity. What a film maker does or doesn't do in trying to simulate it pales by comparison.
