I LOVE Barbaro...and i remember the day he went down. i remember following Barbaro's fight for survival and finally hearing about his death...i cried 5 days straight and still cry now. I MISS YOU BARBARO
Out of this tragedy came something positive - all the cards from people of all ages and the funds raised in Barbaro's name to prevent laminitis. BARBARO LIVES ON IN OUR HEARTS.
I wonder what they did with the carcass. The true tragedy of Barbaro would be if all that delicious meat went to waste. I enjoy horse meat. The fear they feel in the slaughterhouse is what makes it so delicious.
Laminitis is one of the most painful afflictions that a horse can suffer from. Secretariat suffered from it at the end of his life....he was in such pain, that he actually screamed!! Horrible! I can't imagine allowing a horse to suffer to THAT degree before ending their agony. People can be so darn selfish. I am against horse racing...the horses are pushed too hard at too young an age.
xRadicalLemonsX ...actually i do know a lot about the sport, my uncle runs a ranch and he raises and trains thoroughbreds for racing, but he waits until there the right age...he has talked to so many vets and they all say the same thing, when they first start racing at age 2 its too young and it does so much to the horse to where thats all they know how to do...i help retrain exracehorses and it takes soooo long because thats all they were used for....gambling
@GleeisGreat After his leg began to heal he developped laminitis in his other legs. They did everything they could to help him money and time. Poor Barbaro!
When I was new to the horse racing world, Barabro was the first horse I ever heard of. For more than a year all I talked about was him and how I wanted to see him race. But when I heard he was dead, I cried and watched all the memoral videos of him, I read all I could about him, and even did a report on him! Long live Barbaros spirit!!!!
Sorry to all horse racing fans out there...but this is what happens when you race horses when they are 3 years old. A horses legs aren't fully developed until they are 7-8 years old...so why must these beautiful horses be raced at only 3???? So many race horses don't even live to the age of 10..I have horses that are healthy and in their 30s. I'm not surprised this happened, but it breaks my heart to see how senseless people can be
@missjessieraerae I'm curious to where you get your info from?!?! These horses are with billions of dollars some of them. Do you think they would risk injury to a horse worth that much?? Thoroughbreds mature very quickly and ys some horses such as arabs take about 8 years to fully develop. And they don't race at 3 they start at 2!! Barbaro broke his foot due to the footing. PLEASE DO NOT CRITIQUE A SPORT IF YOU KNOW NOTHING OF IT!! I cannot stand ppl like you who think they know everything.

@HorseGal523 the markings on both horses the one with the blinkers might have the white snip on his nose but he doesnt have the white sox on by his hooves like barbaro, and the other one with its head up doesnt have the same white star as barbaro its too small and he also doesnt have the white snip on his nose and lastly he too also fails to have white hooves :)
@Camogirl74 no i have watched footage of the race head on as they were coming doown the homestretch for th first time and barbaro was fin then he took a bad step then flung his head out and bore wide n nearly took out the horses on his outside he was running fine till he took a bad step most likely caused b clipping heels
I remember Barbaro breaking thru the gate and having to be reloaded. I remember the announcer saying that when a horse breaks thru the gate something usually goes wrong. Did Barbaro know there was something wrong with himself that day? And broke thru early because of that? No one will ever know. I see the remarks about what happened to him. I read the other horse clipped him. We will never really know. A great horse has passed away and may he remain in our hearts and memories forever.

See, this is what happens to really nice horses. It's happened at almost every race. They should stop racing these horses, it's killing them. It's to hard on these poor horses. I feel in love with Barbaro when I first saw him race. And most of the time, when a horse breaks it leg, like that. It cannot be fixed. Nice job on the video though.

i know how the owners of barbaro feel because 2 months ago my horse severed all his tendons in his back legs and we thought that he wasnt going 2 make it but he just got his cast off and now he is doing good if u want 2 c him my vid is orion dakota :)

It is horrible. And yes, horse slaughter exists, which is horrible, but they are NOT made into dog food. In North America, the meat is shipped overseas in which they sell it as a delicacy. And actually, slaughter is gone in the US now, it has been banned in the states where there were slaughter houses.

That "big deal" is helping horses all over the world. Researchers are working harder to find a cure for laminitis and better ways of mending broken bones. In Barbaro's case, I don't think the word 'money' ever entered their heads unless it was about the money they would need to pay for his treatment. "HE DIDNT EVEN GO TO SLAUGHTER"

My aunt owns a farm in Ocala and does many different things with animals, including horses. I help out occasionally, but since I don't live up there I can't do it as much as I'd like. I do agree with your drug comment though. They need to make stricter rules on drugs and medication, because they're not doing too great with that.

No, you know what, you clearly just don't get it. Barbaro was not "just a horse," he was a hero who made his way into the heart of many people. People rallied around his victories and his tragedy and he became a symbol of human hope. Was Secretariat "just a horse?" No. Was Seabiscuit "just a horse?" NO! They were American sports heroes, same as Joe DiMaggio or Babe Ruth. And I was heartbroken when Barbaro died, I was watching when he broke his leg. Your statement is ignorant, and so are you.

See, this is what happens to really nice horses. It's happened at almost every race. They should stop racing these horses, it's killing them. It's to hard on these poor horses. I feel in love with Barbaro when I first saw him race. And most of the time, when a horse breaks it leg, like that. It cannot be fixed. Nice job on the video though.

Kind of funny I hear horses aren't human beings, being that Secretariat did more for this Country than any human could. Old cried. the young cried, not by seeing this so called torture, they needed that at the time, to see grace, an idol and perfection. That all came from a horse. Secretariat was adored, not thru one's ego, but thru the heart. As the same with Barbaro, they all give us something we as humans can't give each other. Thats comfort and pride, not egoism.

It is horrible. And yes, horse slaughter exists, which is horrible, but they are NOT made into dog food. In North America, the meat is shipped overseas in which they sell it as a delicacy. And actually, slaughter is gone in the US now, it has been banned in the states where there were slaughter houses.

That "big deal" is helping horses all over the world. Researchers are working harder to find a cure for laminitis and better ways of mending broken bones. In Barbaro's case, I don't think the word 'money' ever entered their heads unless it was about the money they would need to pay for his treatment. "HE DIDNT EVEN GO TO SLAUGHTER"

It doesn't have to be only racehorses. It was just an example. Seeing as how your entire comment you were whining about racehorses, I don't know, it seemed logical. My aunt owns a farm in Ocala and does many different things with animals, including horses. I help out occasionally, but since I don't live up there I can't do it as much as I'd like. I do agree with your drug comment though. They need to make stricter rules on drugs and medication, because they're not doing too great with that.
