  • Nice

  • i started using linux/bsd years ago i love using it for my normal desktop, and the good thing is many programs that i use on linux/bsd are avalible on windows so it is the same throught all my computers

  • ok you get 5 stars from me

nice video but needs some music :p

  • how do you get the cube on ubuntu?

  • 1. Download compiz fusion

    2. Enable desktop cube and rotate cube under advanced visual effects

    3. ???

    4. Profit

  • I like to call Ubuntu the linux for dummies because it distinguishes from the other distro mainly for having such broad package repositories (you find most of what you need directly in the package manager). Apart from that I think it is exactly the same as the rest an OS with a KDE/Gnome Desktop.

I think this video would be better be titled Compiz/Beryl which is the package you where so eagerly demonstrating. This 3d desktop enhancing can be installed in most of the linux distros.

  • Not just that, but I've shown that Linux can also run Windows games, by running Warcraft 3

  • Yes indead, you placed W3 in one of your 3D cube faces :).

Did you used wine or cedega to run W3?

People always complain that their commom Windows applications will not be around in Linux. But actually you can place IE also, and a bunch of other windows applications that a lot of people took a long work to make then supported :)

But the best is that you can actually find a lot of alternative tools to the ones used in Windows. That is the best I think!

  • I used Wine, without any fancy configuration... worked like a charm

  • @kratzzro Running one Windows game does not prove that you can run Windows games. There are many, many games that cannot run on Linux (sadly).

  • Schweet. Smooth. Nice. I'm downloading Ubuntu 8.04 as soon as it hits the servers. And I'm gonna have a separate partition with Kubuntu 8.04 KDE4 remix on it cause KDE4 is really exciting stuff (oh noes my innner geek is showing!). Yes, I know someone will say I don't need to have two partitions but I really wanna keep libraries and things separate for now. KDE4 is still very much a work in progress and, you know, things can go pear shaped once in a while.

  • good job roo keep up the good work show the power of linux

    vezi k ti-am dat 1 la stele:))

  • POWERFUL

  • what about mmo's omg omg :P

  • Lol, get a cube ^_^

    Those are awesome.

Otherwise, nice work. I still haven't figured out how the hell you did that alt+tab 3D thing ^_^

  • what was the instant messanger you used in this video? thx

  • sorry about this total newb question but...could I run my regular PC games on this? and also, Does this have accounts like on XP? Thanks.

  • Some native (very good) many with wine or cedega and few doesnt work with Linux.

  • compiz fuzion is the best!

  • how you can work your atheros??.. i cant

  • It just works, out of the box... all I had to do was to select the network.

  • you know my uncle owns atheros. Paul Franklin. he started it. now he has the rights to use it the next gen of the DS.

  • does compiz fusion runs also from the live cd?

  • No, because to run Compiz Fusion you need to have proper video drivers installed, and that can be done after installation.

  • wow man can I have your system specs plz...

  • My Laptop: -Acer Aspire 5112WlMi -Turion TL50 X2 1.600Mhz -ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 256Mb

     -2x512 DDR2 = 1Gb RAM -Atheros Wireless/Realtek Audio
