@aybitchdontdodat Right, but that's the common misconception. Anton Lavey started NEO-Satanism which is nothing like the movement that originated the term. There is evidence in gnosticism more than 200 years before Christ that there were deistic satanists. True Christians believe that Christ came to save the world (from sin) while true Satanists believe Satan will come to save the world (from ignorance). Read a little more into it. I don't actively follow either, but am well-versed in text.

That is a fascinating point, actually. I, too, am extremely well read on all of these subjects, but your take is... worthy of great consideration. It is simplistic, but extremely valuable. Of course, you know that Judaism, the parent religion of all of this foolishness believed in no Satan or Hell, and you know what "Sheol" and the name Satan actually mean to Semetic peoples...
And, of course, Dr. Elaine Pagels' work on the Gnostic Gospels. Fascinating.

@Paganguy1 Yep. In Judaism, heaven and hell are symbols for attainable things in this physical world we occupy. Never meant to be something that happened post-mortem. In fact, they actively preached against an afterlife during the time of the early Roman Empire. Events and beliefs from the Roman pantheon combined with Judaism influenced modern day Christians to take on such beliefs. It is extremely fascinating how many similar stories there are to the life of Christ in other religions.
