I remember I was in seventh or eighth grade when Throwing Muses opened for REM. At the time, me and my buddy were speculating about whether Stipe was hooking up with Hersh or Donnelly, haha. I was jealous. I was like, "Oh, Stipe probably gets Kristin every night after the show." Boy were we idiots, haha.
@marsiozo Yeah, and are that clueless about a guy's, in retrospect, completely obvious homosexuality, haha. Well, I remember thinking Morrissey used to get lots of girls as well, haha. And he'd pretty much spell it out for you in the songs. He'd come right out and say, "This girl wanted to bang me and I ran away" , haha. Yes, I was very clueless.
@MrSloika How much do you know by them, man? I'm really curious. I'm guessing maybe you know Bright Yellow Gun, which admittedly isn't their best song. It was them trying to have a pop song. Do yourself a favor, and I don't mean that as an insult, but seriously, you'll enjoy it: listen to anything from House Tornado, or the Real Ramona. I have a song in my YT faves from their first album, called "Call Me." Check it out. I bet you fall in love. You have to listen all the way through, though.
@MckyMseNTarotCrds Like I said, she's a nice person, I have nothing against her.....but, the Muses were never in the same league(talent wise) as the Pixies. Pixies use to open for the Muses and that quickly flipped, proves that most of the audience felt the same way as I do.
I hate to get sentimental but... I worked with the Muses in the 80s, and of all the people in the music biz I've ever encountered, Kristin Hersh is an astonishing light in this world. Her talent and her humanity are immeasurable, and her intelligence, humour and capacity for unconditional love are simply magical. You can see it in this clip. In fact there isn't any other kind of footage of her in that sense, because what you see is what you get with Kristin. Thanks for posting this!
I've been a Muses fan since the mid-'80s while living in the Boston area before moving to Portland, OR in the '90s. I was thrilled when Kris & her family here last yr! Kris &/or 50FootWave do play in town sometimes, but I've yet to run into her on the street when out & about. Still it's nice to know we're neighbors!
I own a lot of her/ TM albums on LP....favorite albums: UNIVERSITY and LIMBO

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Hersh may be a fantastic person, but the Muses were never anything more than a mediocre college band.
