Nice rifle. My M1 is a mix matched rifle that originally had one of the Dutch receivers. I had a problem while shooting it where the op rod popped out of the receiver when firing so I ended up getting a CMP Springfield receiver and installed it. Now it runs like a smooth machine and is very accurate.
Great snag Miller !! I owned several Garands over the years and yes, I have an idiot mark to prove it. I have a very ugly permanently scarred right thumb, Garand thumb, be careful, She's a beauty but she can bite. : )
My Grandpa gave me a numbers matching M1 Garand that his dad got off an American in a trade for one of our Lee Enfield SMLE back after the war. The Garand also works well in cold conditions! I dug mine out of a box in a barn in the winter and it was frozen solid and it fired right out of the box even in the freezing cold!
@danthman114 Incorrect. They may remove/swap bolts and/or trigger groups, but they don't fully disassemble the rifles. They have a cool machine that removes MOST of the cosmoline but they leave the rifles assembled. The last 2 I've gotten have been almost completely cosmo-free EXCEPT in the ferrule/handguards. One service grade I didn't fully strip/clean before shooting. When it heats up, grease starts running and flies everywhere. LOL
@robbwilk no. the war was won, it was just the matter of how it was going to be finished. with a invasion twice the size of D-day on japan. or with a bomb we didn;t know would work in combat.
After seeing M1s in local gun stores selling for over $1000, I didn't think I would be able to afford one. I'm already looking up CMP affiliated organizations in my area. Thanks for the vid!
Wow, what a real beauty. That rifle looks fantastic. My father used one in Korea, in mud, extreme cold, snow and ice conditions....he loved it, He told me stories of how they would literally snipe dozens and dozens of enemy by the moonlight who were still trying to cross the frozen rivers on foot with supplies and weapons after they had blown the bridge on a supply route.
Have you ever fired one before? Plan on shooting this one? Vid-vid-vid.please....
My Italian Garand has a Clint Fowler adjustable gas valve plug. I have had no issues with firing 203 grain hand loads.at less than $150 it is a worthy addition, allowing the Garand to be used as a big game rifle. Before he died, Richard McCann of McCann Industries, Spanaway, Washington, did Garand conversions to ,.458 magnum. The receivers have no failure reports.
The Garand is a thing of beauty......much like a 1911. Nothing like picking one up and shooting it and knowing that this rifle was instrumental in WW2......sound of freedom, I like that....true true.
@millerusaf Awsome, I have always wanted one of these, ever since my great grandfather let me shoot his from the war. His house burned down, with it in it. He looked forever, he found the barrel, and action, that was it. the barrel was warped, and bent from a beam falling on it. He was a Navy Frogmen, and fought with the Marines on Iwo Jima. When he past away, they gave him his 21 gun salute with the Garrand.

About the CMP, if you are with in at least 500 miles i would suggest you go to the stores. How many times will you go to a store that is jam packed with American history?
@shanehey Heck, it's only 525 if you don't mind some dings and a slightly degraded muzzle/throat rating (not by much......still good quality shootable rifles).
@isamtator Correct. Heavier grain commercial loads can bend the op rod. Stick with old surplus ball, and with the few commercial offerings for the M1 with loads of 150 grain.
Drive by Camp Parry, Ohio every time I visit mom. I guess there's a lot of competitive activities there. You sure got a good looking rifle. Nice score!
Nah, cosmoline is easy. Take everything apart put all the small parts in a bucket of boiling water. Pour boiling water down the barrel too, Clean it all up with new clean cloth diapers. Done! Takes a bit of time, but works well.
WTF? I've never heard anyone say that the Garand style action is prone to failure from dirt or mud. Only a dip shit AK fanboy would say such a moronic thing. I'm jealous asshole.
How was the airforce. i am think on joining as a security forces officer and wanna know i other people who are serving or have served. I am only 15 so i got a while to think still
@baracade777 The USAF is a great branch to serve in. Be sure to really figure out what you want to do, and go from there. Security Forces can be a stressful but rewarding career field.
@millerusaf alrite thanks. what are the odds of me seeing combat in security. i know greater than like admin. but i would like to grow up to see some grandchildren as well as serve my country.
@baracade777 you can go from what miller said, its your life. but in this day and age i think enlisting is the wrong thing to do. yeah the benefits are good but i see it as dishonorable doing what our military and government are doing around the world.
