What was the "experimental technique" he used years ago that caused his paintings to disintegrate? I keep reading about it in random articles and didn't know if you could share any insight on that.
I believe that the court should reverse their decision as well. There is reasonable doubt of Nerdrums guilt, substantiated by apparently false evidence submitted on the part of the prosecution, and it should be reiterated that this trial was held just 7 days after a the massacre in Oslo last summer.
In addition, Nerdrum is a treasure and should be allowed his liberty to continue his work. He has paid his taxes, and his due. I encourage all of you to seek out and read the story for yourself.
His guilt or innocence isn't the point here. The fact is that the court did not give him a fair trial. It is the responsibility of the court to provide evidence and the court did not. They convicted him based on suspicion. The court must provide evidence or reverse their decision, otherwise they are violating human rights. Period.
To say that Odd is an idiot is not a polite way to carry on a discussion. He is a man who is doing the best that he can to retain his position as a law abiding, creative individual in a business that is more complicated than you might imagine. What you call income, if you are referring to the money that was held in the safety deposit box, was not reported precisely because it was not income and this is one of the points that needs to be reviewed.
Odd Nerdrum had nothing to do with what was said between Richard and I and was not present during the making of the video. We are not certain where he was and it's conception is purely our own along with Øde and Bork Nerdrum who handled the technical aspects for us but in no way coached us in our dialogue. We are simply wanting to help spread interest in the case and encourage discussion about it because we find it interesting and believe so should you, but preconceptions must be laid aside.
@koro3koro3koro3, The video was intend to ask some basic questions and provide answers to those questions in a simple understandable way. We have reviewed the court transcript and other information available to us. It was not intended to entertain you and I think I speak for Richard as well as myself when I say that we are not a puppets, but rather concerned individual who wish to understand this case. We have both researched this situation to the best of our abilities and continue to do so.
A great Master shouldn't be wasting time, he has so many important things to work with instead of dealing with such claims. What is with this people that can not see what should be the most important of all and besides that they want to cut his wings!
They are attempting against the liberty of expression
@jobandmoby Nerdrum is a brilliant painter. Plain and simple. And it's terrible that he is going to have to go two years in prison without painting, but this interview seems contrived. Good intentions, though.
@KPattonArt123 No, I didn't. I just looked it up, though, and that's great news. I hope he is able to keep his visa so he can continue to teach in America because he seems to be appreciated more in the US than in his own country. And yes, this interview is very contrived. The questions are asked by a Nerdrum student to a Nerdrum student knowing what the answers will be. It gets the information across but the interview format wasn't needed.
@guestuser1900 I see what you mean guestuser. Though what they were saying was factually true, the interview format was still contrived. I only knew Richard Scott was a student of Nerdrums', I didn't know both were.
Either way, I'm glad that Nerdrum won an appeal. Hopefully he can continue teaching in the US and continue with his career in general, as you said.
The fact is that the court did not provide evidence of the NY bank account, which was a key piece of evidence against Nerdrum. One piece of faulty evidence is more than enough to rightly dismiss a case. The court transcript is available in English and Norwegian on freeoddnerdrum (dot) org and you can see the facts for yourself.
He was tried and sentenced under Norwegian law, Norway is not a 3rd world country, our court system is that of a civilized and lawful nation and he has been found guilty. Using his "artistic ways" as an excuse for not having control of his taxes is not an excuse to be used in courts. He had enough money to hire an accountant but failed to do so. He was an idiot and should bare the consequences for not reporting his income correctly, as would anyone else in norway face if not done.
Hi Richard.. just now I watched the film of your/ Brandon Kralik interview. The most nice and impressive part was at the end with the music and the Nerdrum studio ( i also tried to figure out which paint sort he uses... seems there were some tubes of Old Holland :) .. As for the interview itself is all really weird. Looks like pupils of Nerdrum have created a self-complimentary surrounding, where they ask questions, tought by Nerdrum and answer them with the answers, given them by Nerdrum:)
seems strange to stage this as an interview...

Brandon, this is very intriguing. I hadn't heard of this court case until your post. I hope it's sorted out promptly.

He who does not carry the burden of proof carries the benefit of assumption, meaning he needs no evidence to support his claim.
