I have read that latency sucks on this Item? personally I preffer firewire stuff because of the zero latency. Have someone try it??? At least for me its imposible to record with latency I get loss...
do you have any complaints about the UX8 running all inputs at once? I've heard it can be buggy but have't heard any SPECIFIC problems. Just vague complaints. Thanks!
how do you get such an awesome kick sound? I'm primarily a guitar player and I program my drums through superior drummer etc..i don't understand what makes that "clicky" sound...i've been fucking around with EVERYTHING to try and get that sound...any tips or help guys? This guy has another vid where he played a bit of the red chord ( mic demo) and that kick was phenomenal sounding...HELP!!!
It's some sort of tricky of course! I'm wondering how he gets such a great sound wiht a mic, that is mainly for snaredrum! I think the most important thing is listening to the sound and adjusting the eq VERY CAREFULLY, to get the best frequencies and of course: COMPRESSION... try to get a good sound that way!
Alright, is what you want to do first is make sure your kick drum is tuned right, second you want get a kick mic that has a punchy, tight, sound.
There are allot of different kick mic models but they all have different characteristics, I would recommend a Shure Sm91 for a super punchy sound. The "click" is exaggerated by boosting the high frequencies at around 8000. After the kick is eq'ed sometimes producers like to compress the signal and then run it into a limiter..
By limiting the signal lightly (don't over do it or else there will not be any punch just click) is gives it a "snap" and is easier to sit in the mix because after compression and limiting your signal has a consistent dynamic.
Hey man, thx for the vid. I'm about to record drum for my new album, just wondering : how do you configure GearBox ?? Do you put comp on it ? Or do you put it in bypass mode and you deal with the comp/EQ on the recording software (I use Logic 8)...any advice ?? Thxxxxx in advance man :) Take care.
just wandering, with the ux8 when recording drums with 6 different mics does it put each mic on a different track on your computer and record at the same time?
yep, probably the software you use varys, i use acid pro 7.0 and you just add 8 audio tracks then assign each input ex. mic 1 to track 1 and so on. dont know what this guy uses, he just plays doesnt say much
yeah, just plug the mics in and hit record yo. Once you have that, compress the snare to make everything come in at the same velocity without killing the dynamics totally. Compress the toms doing the same thing. I replaced the kick sound with a kick sample using APTrigga. I used the API 2500 stereo mixer on toms, snare, and overheads. ;) jesus.
That was great. What kind of mixer do you use, and how much was it. And do you suggest getting a package of mics or buying them separately like you did?
Would you recommend the ux8 over an M audio fast track ultra 8r? as thats what i was thinking of getting. but listening to your demo i duno haha, love the bass drum sound you got there!
Its all about snare tuning and mic placement, I didn't use any EQ. Basically a compresser just brings every hit that may be at a different velocity up to the same velocity to be more audible. What you're hearing is exactly what the snare sounds like.
Well done!!! hey dude dou you know if the ux8 works with sonar and windows xp??

lmao, i have NO IDEA what that is... haha but what i meant to say, was how did you mix it? (hi, lo, mids, compression, etc.)
