Totally. I just discovered her earlier this month. This was recorded in 1979, but you can hear that artists such as Dirty Projectors, and Bjork were influenced by her. Bjork even credited her as an influence.

I find it fascinating, as I feel like I'm learning about the origins of the type of artists I like, and how they have developed their sound. Meredith Monk is a musical genious!

Im pretty sure thats the name of her style of music. Not entirely sure though. this is completely new to me.

wonderful piece though! its so extremely passionate! and that spanish or indian looking woman must have INCREDIBLY strong vocal muscles to be able to do that. i cant even believe that is possible.

I wonder how that music is written down. it is a lot like comtemporary music, using many techniques that are unique to the piece. like the cello chopsticks idea.

Nope, the name of the piece is actually Dolmen Music. Check it out in the works list on her website or wikipedia.

Regarding the (non)notation of her music, she says: "I've worked in what I would call the aural tradition, in that I pass material down face to face or really work with the people who are singing themselves, rather than learn by looking at a score."
