Im glad to know the cut and polished crystal I bought today at the gem show is still 100% quartz. I dont consider it fake if it has been beautified. All (most) diamonds used in rings and jewelry are cut and polished...and they are still real, just not rough. thanks for posting the info!
When I made this slide show I was a bit upset about sellers from China listing cut/polished points on ebay as "natural". There is a big difference between a point thats cut and polished into shape and one that formed naturally. Sellers in China were trying to pass off cut/polished pieces as much more valuable natural points. Nothing wrong with a cut/polished crystal... so long as the seller is truthful about it : )
Yay, finally! I refuse to buy from China anymore, dodgy, dodgy, dodgy. Have complained to Ebay about the shit they're trying to pass off as Ajoite with some very clever wording, totally suspect! Thanks!!
What does cut and polished mean? I need a natural quartz crystal. I have my eye on one from Brazil but I am not sure if it is fake or not. It's cut into an octagon.
Cut and polished is when a chunk of quartz is cut/polished into the shape of a natural crystal point. The piece you are looking at may be natural quartz.. but if it has been cut into the shape of a octagon then it is not a naturally formed crystal shape.
Thanks for confirming what I have said about the Tucson Show being the biggest unregulated money-laundering black market in the world, a den of thieves that us legitimate American hard-rock miners have to fight in addition to the hard work we do to produce minerals. I've lost hundreds of thousands to thieves as well as had these fakers draw away biz with unfairly low prices. Buy domestic! Support your local disabled veteran miners! Thanks!
Indeed, some of my best life-long friends, like Bob Jones, 40 years of enjoying the mining scene, made the Tucson Show worthwhile, socially; most of the best people are miners, they've conquered greed & jealousy, honest as the day is long.Hard working, close to God's works. I miss 'doing' Tucson this year. Can Barb & I dig w/you? We have a great dig near the border you'd like, too. I meant not to disparage those who still try hard in the face of such highgraders & fakers. I've been there.

I urge anyone who wants to learn more about fake minerals to check out fakeminerals dot com.
I am a quartz man, so my area is mostly in quartz crystals. Fakeminerals dot com lists all types of mineral frauds.

In all fairness there are a FEW good ole boys out at the Tucson show, a FEW.
Only buy from sellers whos hands are rough and scared, one way to be sure your buying from a real miner ; )
