Massive Lord of the Rings rip-off. I do like Merlin, but the exact same dialogue is in the Return of the King when Éowyn says 'I'm going to save you' and Théoden replies 'You already have'. If you want something that should actually make you cry, instead of some fictional character dying peacefully, look at the holocaust.
This episode is SO sad. I was glad that Freya came back in the episode: Coming of Arthur Part 2. I guess that's what she meant by "One day, I'll repay you."

I knew it was coming... but when I was watching this episode for the first time I hated this scene because it was just too sad. And Colin Morgan.... wow, you are a fantastic actor -- especially at the bit where he sends the little boat into the lake... aww =(
its been announced that Freya will be back in the third season and help guide Merlin. The way i interpret this is the title of the episode "Lady of the Lake" she'll probably be the spirit of the lake, (which i think is the same one Merlin hid excalibur).
@birminghamchick101 EXACTLY. It's just horrible that it happens to him. I think it says that he's got to be one extremely strong man for going through all his hurt and pain alone. Especially since not only does he go it alone but he has to constantly fight to maintain a future where magic can be accepted again. That takes an enormous amount of faith and hope. :)
