Strange that this skit was absolutely hilarious , yet I just saw Carol on a Canadian talk show called The Hour and she answered a question about whether there was a skit that backfired and she said that the Mary Worthless skit did not connect with the audience and everyone just sat there like "a giant oil painting" and that the comment she made at the end saying " be surprised because I'm not doing this again". However I heard nothing but laughter from the audience and Korman breaking up again
They record their sketches in front of a live audience but it's quite possible they had them "sweetened" - added laughter from previous sketches for the broadcast.
Or, considering how raucous the audience gets in the "best" of the sketches, maybe this was comparatively tame. I'm hoping for the latter. @_@
I saw another interview and Burnett said that she didn't like the sketch and decided not to do it again. Evidently it was supposed to be an ongoing thing. From that interview she gave it appeared to be just her personal dislike.
This was great! Even though they could no longer carry on the skit without cracking up, it was good, um, 'improvising' as only they could do..and still got a laugh! I miss this show
@credsox05 Darn shame it's not out on DVD, it would REALLY be *flying* off the sales floor non-stop. Oh well, guess I don't mind watching this (and other CB clips as well) on YouTube, but really would be just as nice (if not better) to finally see this on DVD (and the features that go with it). ;-)
This is one of my FAVORITE TV clips ever! I still quote the line "If it'll make you happy..." Thanks so much for posting this, I've been looking for it!
Wish this would have been a recurring skit!

Absolute perfection. Some of the outtakes and bloopers are the best parts :)

I don't get why Carol didn't like the sketch. I thought it was hysterical. Harvey was fabulous as usual.

@aiken1 The audience didn't react to it. That's why pre-recorded laughter was put in.

OH my gosh I've never laughed so hard. I love when Harvey is in the background laughing at the end and when the doorbell rings. Great!

to bad there aren't shows like this anymore, good wholesome comedies. Good thing that TV Land shows them.

Awesome skit, and I love when those stuffy, boring comic strips like "Mary Worth" get parodied!!!
