I was trying to remember the haunting voice I heard in the 60's at the "Blue Note" in Manhattan Beach when I remembered he had sung this song. After stumbling around on youTube I came across Kenny . I was so excited to be reunited with that voice only to find that he had passed away. What a immeasurable loss to the world of music. He had such a gift!

I booked kenny for the slaughterhouse in laramie, wy in 1973. He was awesome! I later interviewed him for the campus radio stations...he grabbed the mike and started interviewing ME! He played for our radio station in casper, wy in 1984. One of the most passionate voices I've ever heard. I was sad to hear about his passing.
I liked Kenny even more without any help from arrangers or strings. Just Kenny in a club in Georgetown or someplace, a stool and his guitar and a mike. He was a complete event, true and lovely always.
If music be the food of LOVE - then play on my brother... I hope and pray one day you will join the redeemed choir in Heaven where all God's children will sing the song of Moses & The Lamb...
What a wonder. I've always loved Kenny's music. I was heart broken to find he died. No fanfare, no vigils, just quite mourning. We will miss his genoius.
Beautiful !!!!!!!

Did he not pass away shortly after this performance? Also, on my 4th listen. Wow, music from his heart and soul.

Wow! Absolutely beautiful. I wish I had discovered Mr. Rankin before he passed on. This is one of THE best versions of While My Guitar.
Check out the ukelele version on youtube by Jake Shimabukuro as well.

"Ditto" to what karmaseutical says. Great newsletter, the link he included to this video will be a blessing to many, I am sure.
Very talented - some people make headlines during their lifetimes, some people afterwards, most people - never.
Thank you for sharing~

I had never heard of Kenny Rankin until I read a beautiful essay about him in Alexander Green's Spiritual Wealth newsletter.
Sounds like an amazing man.
Now, based on listening to this beautiful track, I am going to explore and discover his music which lives on even though he has passed...
Thank you for posting it.
