no, the country is divided in a densely populated Flanders that speak Dutch, and a less densely populated part that's called Wallonia and speaks French. Brussels is officially bilingual, although in practice it's almost completely French.
@aswchris And at 0:55 you passed on the left, is it a law that you must pass on the left? Also at 6:16 you were passed, that looked very rude and dangerous, was that legal?
@quatlen Passing on the right is generally not allowed in Europe, apart from exit lanes. That 6:16 was not illegal per se (no passing ban) but it was quite dangerous as it is a two-lane road not suited for 3 cars next to eachother. He almost forced me on the sidewalk.
But they generally have an erratic driving behavior in Belgium, the country ranks among the worst in Europe in traffic fatalities...
@quatlen All of Europe. Although Flanders is performing better, both Flanders and Wallonia rank lower than many eastern European countries which traditionally were leading in traffic fatalities.
@fireflymr as a matter of fact, I was in France 2 hours after this video. Both France and Italy have a traffic fatality rate that is about 50% of Belgium's....
You seem like a pretty good driver.
Thanks for the lift, buddy. Time to get out here.

Nice video. I like the decadent feeling of Belgian roads, although I think Belgians don't :D

Wow! I was in Liége one time and entered many intimidating tunnels near the city center... Very weird city...

@streetsofbrazil I made a couple of Liège videos back in 2007. I skipped the downtown area this time. They were among my first videos.
aswchris 1 year ago
@aswchris I did some Liége centre ville videos in 2008, and can confirm it was weird. I felt like i was in the ruhr area in 1981.

Would you say more people speak French then Dutch in Belgium?

Liège is a city in Wallonia (= French speaking)

@aswchris Belgium Ranks that badly in fatal car crashes in all of Europe or Western Europe?
quatlen 1 year ago
@quatlen All of Europe. Although Flanders is performing better, both Flanders and Wallonia rank lower than many eastern European countries which traditionally were leading in traffic fatalities.
aswchris 1 year ago
@aswchris
Wallonia - 30,4 fatalities in 1000 traffic accidents (3.300.000 inhabitants)
Flanders - 12,9 fatalities in 1000 traffic accidents (6.200.000 inhabitants)
Brussels - 5,1 fatalities in 1000 traffic accidents (1.100.100 inhabitants)
Belgium as a whole is not doing it the best but it's definitively not the worst as suggested here.

@quatlen Well, we still do better than Czech repub., iceland, hongaria, slovenia, greece, poland, and more, so it isnt that bad.

@fireflymr
Not really. France has about 55 deaths per 1 million inhabitants, Italy 45. Flanders has 90 and Wallonia has 120.

Dutch (known as Flemish in Belgium) is spoken nearly twice as much as French.

@038Justin de brug over de Maas is wel het slechtste, met name op de rechterrijstrook. De rest valt inderdaad wel mee.

Bwa, ik vind het nogal ondermaats, zeker de wegmarkeringen.

I've been caught in a traffic jam -- well, several actually -- that took me that long (35 mins.), if not longer.
Nice vid, Chris.
