@ponti454 Well, if he isn't a breeding dog then just don't do it. That doesn't justify surgery imo. I didn't put my dog through that and he lived 9 very happy years. It makes a big difference, and I think unneutered males look better developed as adults vs. being snipped early in life.
when playing tug a war, make it a 1 to 2 win, you win twice, or dog wins once. They will learn that your the boss that way and also feel special when they do win. mastiffs are the best breed of dog, for all ages, young and old.

It looks fun but it brings bad memories for me, years ago my little dog was almost killed by a dog like yours, taken at one of his back legs and shaken like a wet rag, then the dog threw him away, it took 2 months for him to get well again. A few days after I got him back from the vet hospital I carried my dog to the place it happened and let him interact with other dogs, just to show him that he has nothing to fear of. It paid off, he loves everyone and his favourite girlfriend is a mastiff :)

May I ask what brand of dog food you feed him? A friend of mine has an American Bulldog and its just a little smaller than your Mastiff yet he is still huge compared to average dogs of his breed. My friend feeds his dog Pedigree and claims it's what helped him grow so large.
@ponti454 i would find a new vet. food is very important, especially for a large breed dog. you need a good large breed puppy forumula, it allows them to grow at a steady pace and avoid growth spurts. growth spurts can lead to joint problems and arthritis. Please dont ever feed pedigree, it is full of corn, fillers, artifical colors, animals digest, not good at all.
I have 4 3 are male and the other is female two are bentley and kitty they are 200+pounds. they are happy and protectve of are property and me. we have 40 ac they are verry gentle but can be agressive when they need to be. The pyreness we have will beat up on them however.

Once you own a mastiff you never want any other dog! Their so gentle and don't know their size, it's funny because they'll try to fit inside small doggie doors and things like that. And when they lay down they have those funny legs they don't know what to do with.
Beautiful dog! I used to have a Neapolitan Mastiff, I loved her to death, she was amazingly loyal and only sounded mean. Her and my old American Pit Bull terrier were horrible guard dogs! Sure she would bark but I caught kids in my backyard more times than I could count.
I had an english mastiff growing up.. he got loose a few times on our 50 acres and old boy would be gone all day but be back on our porch at sun down. awesome dogs.

i wish! hes 4 now and the most timid dog ive ever known to the point of being pathetic. you would have a point it he were a pitt or similar, but breeds like these and also dobermans need a few minutes of confidence now and then, they are big babies - dont believe everything you hear

@ponti454 absolutely agree, ive owned a couple and their "dominance" issues are non existence, they are lushes. Dominance issues come from poor upraising, not tug of war

Once you own a mastiff you never want any other dog! Their so gentle and don't know their size, it's funny because they'll try to fit inside small doggie doors and things like that. And when they lay down they have those funny legs they don't know what to do with.

Beautiful dog! I used to have a Neapolitan Mastiff, I loved her to death, she was amazingly loyal and only sounded mean. Her and my old American Pit Bull terrier were horrible guard dogs! Sure she would bark but I caught kids in my backyard more times than I could count.

I had an english mastiff growing up.. he got loose a few times on our 50 acres and old boy would be gone all day but be back on our porch at sun down. awesome dogs.

Mastiff are the best doges ever. I have one and he is 3 years old and if he sees something he will let us know, becase he barks loud and brufly. thank you

What a BIG beautiful dog :) I own 2 females, an almost 2 yr old fawn and a 11 week old brindle female puppy, they are great dogs, and very protective of their family especially kids. I also own a bullmastiff, which is an awesome dog also. I wouldn't own any other breed, I am very parcial to them all (mastiff breeds).

He is 1 big boy!!Has some set of mitts on him! They seem to have such a great temperament. My friend has 1 and at first glance I was scared to death of him (Raptor) but he is such a big mush. Has a problem with rawhide bones and swallows them whole so he had 2 stop giving them 2 him.lol..I wish I had the yard for a pup that size ;-(

I saw a mastiff in the vetinary's office and i was like:WTF IS THAT?!! its head is so huge that it could hunt down hyenas and maybe win.
That is no offense to hyenas but Goddam:If i saw that dog i would definately be worried.
I used to play with a saint bernard named greta and she was strong and didn't even know her own strength.
She would accidentally hurt me while playing rough.

I see those type of comments on pitbull video's (people judging other people's pitbulls and dogs based on how well they thinkt he dog woul hold up in a fight). It pisses me off to no end, WHO CARES? THese dogs are family pets, not abused and trained to fight for their life. I HATE DOG FIGHTERS. It breaks my heart
