Vern, I know you're listening. I still wish the Lord would have seen fit to leave you here with us for a while longer. Thanks for all the albums and singles you left us, aw what a treasure! You truly are and will always be THE VOICE. Rest in peace!
If this one doesn't draw a tear out of you , it'll draw out a river , or you've had the glands surgically removed . Vern's the uncrowned king in my book , head and shoulders above all others .
Vern Gosdin...what a voice. I only hope he realized just how much people appreciated his amazing talent. His music was classic and timeless...never to go 'out of style'. Gone from us, way too soon, but never to be forgotten by his many fans. RIP Mr. Gosdin.
My favorite Vern Goslin song. I have sat in the dark many nights and just listened to this for hours. Somethmes I think he is better than George Jones.
Hard to dis Paisley.. He's the best guitarist in Nashville and arguably the best act Nashville has.. He's been a pro since he was 12, lighten up.. Vern is one of the greatest of all time and your cutting up Paisley for not being authentic and wanting to pay tribute?? I'm all for the outlaws, old country but things change and the best way to enjoy it is to adapt with the times.. Do you think Hank Sr. or ET would have cared for 80's country music?? I would say yes, you??..
The younger generations are sick of the modern country garbage, which only represents a small market. The young people of today are referring back to the country legends and want to hear Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Charley Pride and Vern Gosdin. We're sick of the garbage Nashville is releasing, because it's not cool anymore, nor is it pleasing to the human ear. Garth Brooks and the hat acts killed the popularity of traditional country music like Vern Gosdin. Real country forever!
I have to wonder how anybody could "dislike" this song. This song is beautifully done and the lyrics really mean something. Rest In Heavenly Peace, Vern, and thank you for the music.
Oh, how I miss the REAL country music. When I was in the business, it was truly REAL. Not like what they call country today and all these young kids. Faron Young, George Strait, Ronnie Milsap and just so many of that time, even George Jones and Loretta Lynn, she was so and still real. I miss seeing here when she would come in from the road with Conway.

man my ex wife of eleven years just told me she found someone new today,,,,,,i've been through addiction and deaths and everything you could think of,,,really i'm not kiddin,,,this is by far the worst hurt i've ever felt in my life,,,,,,,,Don't even know what to do!!!
@waylonlover859 I am so sorry about this,, been there done that, I had to leave my husband , he was dealing in drugs and being careless with it and I had little babies and they almost got some off the carpet , Lord I loved him as much the day I left him as I have always loved him, but I couldn't stay,, Forgive her and make a new life ,she has made her choices and people don't change much,,
This is such a beautiful song.....I imagine its about a seperated couple..this is truly one of the best songs I've ever heard..it has real true meaning indeed!..I even sung it myself sitting at my computer as a tribute to him when I heard of his death..it may be posted on this page
Saw Vern and ole "no-show" do this as a duet at the Coliseum in Montgomery, AL years ago. Brought down the house. Their voices and styles were so similar. Talk about two legends! WOW! Ronnie Milsap was on the bill also. He sang "Any Day Now." The three were doing a U. S. tour together billed as "Legends.". Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon. If I remember correctly, a good seat went for $12. Talk abot money well spent. Vern died about a year later.
This is a great tribute to a great man AND singer. In my travels on the road, every night spot, honkytonk, and Ramada Inn; that I had the pleasure of singing in over the 11 years we were on the road, my greatest moment was at the Hitching Post in Bristol, Tennessee, where I got to meet "the voice". He treated me kindly as a gentleman would, and he became a friend. Thank you for this great video of my friend Vern Gosdin.
Raining is a good hurt song that I will always love by Mr. Gosdin. It got me through so much. Helped me not to make a wrong choice. Just helped me to live it through my heart.
I am an old fellow who had heard a lot of singers over the years. This performance by Vern is absolutely the very best that he ever did. Not the most popular, but the very best. Thanks for posting.....
Vern you Conway Johnny and Elvis are sing for the man upstairs.Thats one hell of a show I can't wait to see it one day Vern will all see you agin R.I.P My old friend Steve will keep your songs a live.
@towman2620 i agree that would be a great show no doubt VERN'S voice belongs in heaven because somethIng that great must have been god given but i don't think anyshow is complete without WAYLON all the true legends are leaving us sadly there is no one to even come close to filling their shoes but JAMEY JOHNSON seems to keep it real so i wish him the best R.I.P VERN
I am a big Brad Paisley fan and love his cover of this brilliant Vern song. Vern was a great talent and will be sorely issed. One of the finest voices in country music history.
@oldstuff Brad Paisley is a little too in touch with his feminine side and his music is rock and roll, not country. Brad does combine some elements of country, but it's not authentic. Vern Gosdin was not a hat act and didn't sing like a goat.
@hectorsalinasisback It doesn't matter about what genre people fall into if the music is good and I'll happily listen to anything from Gershwin to Garth and Buddy Holly to Bryan Adams. Waylon Jennings once said "Country is the singer and not the song. I'm country and I can sing anything". I'm still looking forwards to seeing Brad Paisley at the O2 arena in London in August and I'll still sing along with Vern on "That just about does it". Best of both worlds! :-)
Vern, I know you're listening. I still wish the Lord would have seen fit to leave you here with us for a while longer. Thanks for all the albums and singles you left us, aw what a treasure! You truly are and will always be THE VOICE. Rest in peace!
