  • one hell of an album! awesome song!

  • Nice Melodic Riff

  • I knew this album was cool when I was 16. Now, at 35, I see it for the complete masterpiece it is.

  • I was eating toast while listening to this. Best toast ever.

  • my first carcass song... epic.

  • everyone fuckin loves this album

  • Bill Steer!

  • blast the carcass so loud that my testicles shake

  • DAMN I love this song!

  • This page is filled to brim with stupidity. Carcass' melodic death metal material is awesome, some of the best out there. But their grind albums are even better.

And to the idiot that thinks grindcore is the same as other shitty -core music, I don't even know how to respond to that. Grind isn't that obnoxious formulaic breakdown and pig squeal nonsense, it's hardcore punk played at an unsurpassed intensity.

  • people ruin carcass for me when they call them grindcore, why must we associate an awesome band with shitty fucking core bands?

  • @GREIVINGDEATH did you just call an entire genre of music "shit"?

  • @GREIVINGDEATH Um grindcore rules... were you born yesterday? Bolt Thrower? Napalm Death? Brutal Truth? Doom? Carcass?

Have you even listened to Reek Of Putrefaction or Symphonies of Sickness or even Necroticsism? Obviously you just follow Carcass's sub par Melodic Death metal era?!?! and suddenly you think you the biggest smartest metalhead on the Planet??

  • @Cantoffie

Carcass's Melodic Death Metal era was awesome. I by no means dislike their grindcore work, but it sounds like a less than 2 minute mishmash of noise, as does all grindcore. Grindcore is shit. Any -core genre is shit. This album is a fucking awesome joyride from the intro of Buried Dreams to the very last riff of This was your Life. I do not know about Swansong yet.

  • @12SecretFace Depends on the artists of the -Core genres. STFU.

  • @TheMisterGalaxy nope, hes right

  • @jefffhardy Except not. Stop being an elitist and enjoy the music.

  • @TheMisterGalaxy i enjoy this music. not core shit. its not music its wanna be posers making shit

  • @jefffhardy THE MAJORITY. But trust me, there are bands that are actually in it for the music, and put extreme care and effort into their writing. I wouldn't listen to it if all of it was how you say it is.

  • I have the album shown at the beginning :P

if anyone can help, what bass tuning is this in? Not standard i'm guessing

  • @HyperVoldo Its in B standard Thats B. E. A. D. F#. B. Good luck

  • @fuzzyballz Standard six string bass tuning is BEADGC. The bass guitar is tuned in fourths throughout instead of having a third (D to F#).

As far as I Know I don't think Jeff Walker ever used a six string but I could be mistaken.

  • @fuzzyballz xD "Good luck" epic !!!

  • @HyperVoldo it's a 5 string i believe, and it's in B standard

  • My mother used to sing me that song when it was bedtime when i was 5, until they took her away ...

  • is this grindcore or death metal? i think grindcore

  • @gigy127 Its melodic death metal

  • @gigy127 Melodic death metal. Their first two albums were grindcore.

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • There's NO album out there that kicks my ass harder than this! I've been listening to Carcass for over 20 years and HEARTWORK is by far one of my all time favorite album. Every time I hear this album it still gives me goosebumps. Kids, stop comparing musicians, who's better who's not!! Are YOU in a BAND? do YOU have a Platinum record??

Listen, appreciate, get inspired and go kick some ass! ;)

  • Steer's solo > Ammot's one

  • Who the fuck dislikes this !!!

  • Could someone upload a drum cover of whats going on from 5:23 to 5:38?

  • Carcass... The Best!!!

  • Jag blöder från huvvet då.

  • i like the smashed up head in the 1st few secounds, thats a nice touch =D

  • @TheSonsofHorusx I thought someone would like that ;D

  • @fuzzyballz Does anybody know that, that dead man is actually Bill Gates?

  • @fuzzyballz ... Thats JFK : /

  • @TheSonsofHorusx you mean former US President John F. Kennedy? Yeah, that's the album cover for Wake Up And Smell The Carcass

  • @TheSonsofHorusx I also like and would like more if it were your head

  • @TheSonsofHorusx its john f kennedy.

  • @TheSonsofHorusx thats kenedys autopsy photo

  • @TheSonsofHorusx it's an actual picture of JFK's carcass

  • @TheSonsofHorusx yeah thats J.F.K's split up wig

  • @AlwaysBeKilling Yeah! I'm actually considering this is the best death metal album in history

  • YEahhhhhh xD

    *agita la cabeza*

  • This is Satanic!

  • i still remember that word!!

0:02 WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CARCASS!!!

  • by far my favorite song from carcass.

  • @risingfall

    Agreed, the solo is sweeet.

  • Gosh !

I like the electric guitar so much !

Wish i could play as well :x

  • @ForbiddenSenerade yeah this song is really fun to play. i just wish i had a drummer to play it with. you should look into playing the guitar :)

  • @fuzzyballz I could play it easy :)

  • @Bnat36 then lets jam haha

  • @ForbiddenSenerade more fun on bass, like everything else.

  • the song that got me into them (:

  • God, this ablum is the shit man, every song is great, one of my favs for sure

  • carcass spawned exhumed and a shit load of other cool bands , gotta love em man !!!

  • Lets mutilate animals while listening to Carcass!!

  • @Soulfree2008 ya, kinda. but never in this intensity.

  • This song is Very fun to play on guitar !!!

  • i love those drums. there`s something nervous, insect like in it. fantastic.

  • awesome awesome awesome

  • fuckin animal i love carcass

  • :30 heaviest riff ever, for me

  • I love some of the song titles these guys come up with. It's like reading a medical textbook.

  • 4:58 - great work, bill!

  • @niggavic Anything from albums heartwork or swansong. True Melodic Death Metal.

  • sure

  • This song is so awesome

  • check out necroticism descanting the insalubrious

  • This my all time favorite metal song, bar none. The perfect balance of aggression and melody. It doesn't get better than this.

  • yeah you should be proud its your favourite its a very good song

  • Let it go, meathead your "razor" sharp sarcasm couldn't cut water.

  • im not being sarcastic this song is definatly up there

  • melodeath fucking rules

  • just saying i could send you the songs over msn.

  • New school: What amps and pickups they used? What tuning is this in? Can somebody send me the tabs? Did you notice my super fast arpeggios? Can somebody teach me to do the "pig squeals"? How should i act on stage? Old school: Let's learn these songs by ear! Let's try to do something interesting! Let's be unlike anyone else! Let's be real heavy! Let's just rip and unleash some SERIOUS METAL!
  • that's fuckin hilarious man and it's not even that complicated to learn songs by ear

  • @Xeretix

amen, man. but I'm afraid you're preaching a long lost cause :/

  • @Xeretix EXACTLY!!!! The problem with people these days is that they worry too much about what everybody else does and how other people see them..

The "Let's make the best music we can... if you dont like it i really dont give a fuck!!" mentality is what gave us the best records!

if we could only go back to those days...

  • @CorporalJigsoreQ Well, we all know that the late 80's / early 90's also had more than enough third rate copycat bands without identity and true expression. After all, that's exactly when all those REH videos were made teaching people how to properly play this or that style or how to emulate Van Halen. But the underground spirit overall was definitely held higher and the excitement was more intense. Sometimes i say that metalcore is "boring music for a bored generation".

  • @Xeretix hmm metalcore is fine lol but as i said before, Depends a lot of the era u were born and ur taste in music, i mean i was born in 1995 ( the year of Slaughter of the soul :B lol) im just 15 but i know to apreciatte old music, the gods of metal , i dont like van halen metallica iron maiden and that shit either im just saying theres old good shit and new good shit :/ dont think all new metal bands are like hmm idk i wont say any names *cough* Bring me the horizon... :P

  • @CorporalJigsoreQ And i don't condemn all the modern heavy music styles and bands just because they're new. All the time i keep listening to many new albums, hoping for some new treasure to be uncovered, but mostly i end up bored and wondering what, if anything, those guys really wanted to say with their music. One bright spot in the last years was Sikth. There have been others, but this time, it seems, can never hope to spawn true greats the size of Carcass, Death, Morbid Angel or Atheist.

  • @Xeretix I've tried listening to some new things myself but I always end up dissapointed... To me it's because modern metal musicians lack originality... hahaha Yet maybe we're just too close-minded to like all the new crap out there... it's not about emulating the classics... it's about reviving the old school "attitude" and making it better!

We expect too much out of new material, and we tend to compare them with the great albums we grew up with and love... is it us? or is it them?

  • @Xeretix yeah man i agree with you , to me At The gates, Carcass, Dismember, Mercyful fate and old In flames are the gods of metal still, i also like to open my mind to new stuff for example i love ATR , KSE, The black dahlia murder ( its a good death metal band they just keep getting better and better) Insomnium, As blood runs black, Abigail williams, Everytime I Die, Gallows etc.. theres still good talent out there, we just need to look for it ;) and depends a lot of your music taste too.

  • @Xeretix If new bands want to be someway in particular well whats the matter, i know it make us real metal lovers feel sick and sad but its their problem after all, not ours, anyway im trying to revive that old metal ``feeling´´ with a band ive just made a couple of months ago , we are influenced by at the gates, carcass and black dahlia murder, I do vocals so if things go pretty well , ill upload some covers with or without my band.

    Have a great day ;)

  • @Xeretix amen

  • @Xeretix then I vote for old school... even though it's not bad if you want to be musically educated ;)

  • no prob and do you have msn messenger?

  • arbeit macht fleisch is a great song. and i could send you all their music if i knew how.

  • Carcass is amazing

  • 何回聴いても名曲だわ!

  • Comment removed

  • then define what should be "god" then

  • probly something that doesnt exist.

  • Besides, I just meant that they are really good.

  • Comment removed

  • Amott is SO much better than Laiho.

  • You damn right!

  • Yeah. All the little "metalheads" I meet are like "LAIHO IS GOD." It's like, have you even heard of the REAL gods, like Amott or Dimebag or Chuck Schuldiner?

  • Ya...I don't want to re-ignite the argument here but Dimebag wasn't really that great. He suddenly got a whole lot better at guitar when he died.

  • that's your opinion. as a musician his creativity was far beyond driven. if you look back at all the music he made it progressed.

  • chuck =]

  • chuck =]

  • laiho is good but the others are on an entire different level

  • @AntiHero1996 no thats not true

  • @AntiHero1996 Hell no :-) It's good, but come on, there's no better than Laiho :-)

  • @ironcode I agree with Antihero1996..who is Laiho again? hahaha naw im fuckin around. Amott has something Laiho doesn't. cant explain it..must be the "spirit" of the music lol
