  • And we'll be back again and again and again until we have our rights. It is just wrong that the State of Maine openly discriminates against its gay and lesbian citizens in regards to handing out a state issued license whether that license is a fishing license or something of much more importance such as a state issued civil marriage license.

You do not have the right to use our civil government to withhold licenses predicated upon yourChurch's religious dictates! I'm not a member of your Church!

  • Fine Maine. Just keep in mind that most State Constitutions do not provide for discrimination of a minority class of people. You have to RE-WRITE your Constitution to make discrimination LEGAL in order for a law to exist that restricts marriage licenses from being issued to a particular minority group, you have to codify discrimination, like California did with Prop 8. Otherwise, any law the majority votes to pass to restrict the rights of a minority will be un-Constitutional. ie. Prop 1.

  • Wow. Congrats on ruining the lives of millions of families everywhere. Seriously. Kudos. I'm so glad to see religion be so readily apart of the government! Now... what has this done to improve the economy, bring back the lives of our dead servicemen or help the lives of any person? Wow, what a victory!

  • People just need to understand the huge disconnect between the liberal media propaganda and the average person's core beliefs. The liberal media live in a bubble and that bubble sometimes is transparent sometimes pitch black. On homo's it is pitch black.

  • We love you Maggie!

  • Before the 1800s, hardly anyone ever got married, legally or ceremonially. Marriage was reserved for the rich, and had nothing to do with "love" as most marriages were arranged by the parents of the betrothed.

  • Victory for Marriage = GR8

Bring back homosexuality to DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Fact > political correctness

  • @MrRayBnz you dug a hole for yourself there mate because you state:

    being gay= mental illness

a mental illness by definition is not a choice (of course who would choose to be mentally ill?)

therefore being gay= not a choice

    hah, logic owns xtian fundamentalism

BTW check the polls to see that apparently the majority of californians now oppose referendum 8

  • Just FYI, I am not discouraged. Fight it all you want, we will in fact, have our right to marry whichever one adult we happen to fall in love with regardless of gender.

  • Marriage: a legal union between one man and one woman by which they become husband and wife. Every gay person can get married. They just can't change the definition so it's "two husbands or two wives or one husband and one wife". The ridiculous "discrimination" argument is old and tired, and it dumbs down the dialogue on the issue.

  • catch the smirk at 132

  • The problem with this is that she said "Gay marriage will be taught in schools." What does that even mean, it's not evolution.

  • @TheRipperRypien Children learn about marriage in schools already. They learn what it is, what it means at a very young age. If society's definition of marriage changes to include same-sex marriages, then so will the definition taught to children.

  • you people of NOfM are so closed minded that you cannot bother to see that gays and lesbians are just as human as us heteroes, and have the same hates, loves, and fears as us heterosexual people.i`m disgusted by your hatefullness against gays and lesbians

  • @waynec38, The issue here is whether or not a society has the right to preserve an institution exclusively aimed at providing the best & ideal situation for the conception & upbringing of children. Marriage is not about the personal happiness of adults and us "heteros"who have adult-happiness view of marriage are the primary reason why our society & the state of marriage is in the shape that it is.

There is no bigotry only a dedication to common sense.

  • the title of this video should read "defeat for marriage in maine"

  • OH it is comming back you can't keep us down. The maine legislature is free to reinact the law. Just wait Maggies hate cant stand forever

  • I live in Spain, where gay marriage has been active for many years. People still go to church. Nobody suffered. Life just went on. Because here people realize that gay people are part of families, not separate from them. Ms Gallagher is relentlessly flogging a dead horse, and she sounds almost tired herself of her own voice.

  • this is such a hurtful video.

  • Maine voted down fairness and equality.

  • Maggie refers to opponents of same-sex marriage as "marriage advocates." If someone is gay and would like to get married to their same-sex partner, wouldn't that make him or her a marriage advocate?

  • No beacuse Marriage is only between one Man and one Women.

  • Perry vs. Schwarzenegger is very exciting. It's (finally) a good time to be an American. We will see marriage equality soon and all you people will have to find some other group to hate.

  • The trial really is doing a fantastic job exposing just how idiotic and pointless the arguments against gay marriage are today.

One argument the anti-gay side presented is that because TV shows like Will&Grace and movies like Brokeback Mountain exist discrimination against gays is no longer taking place... I think we deserve to win by default simply because of the stupidity of their arguments.

  • Traditional Marriage was just defended in New Jersey!

  • What is 53%? That's just almost nothing.. Ive been truly shocked to learn this year, as a European, the US is so violent and aggressive towards it's own people and their basic human rights. It's mindblowing that people, like Gallagher, or churches are that hateful towards their own people. That;s not what humans are supposed to be. Not where I live.

  • In Holland, where we've had gay marriage now for almost 9 years, the majority of Catholics is pro gay marriage and was for it when it was legalized. I guess the Dutch Catholics are the real ones.

  • summer, yes, real fake ones. You've invented your own babylonic god too, for sure. I eould not step on Dutch land not even for all the money your country seem to have...*another sign of the last times* vade retro.

  • Well said! I left the Catholic Church after they opposed Same-Sex Marriage on this side of the Atlantic.

  • No those are called Hyprocrites.

  • oh yay, the majority oppressed a minority, yeah, great victory, like that has never happened before. women and blacks instantly got the right to vote. inter-racial marriage has always been allowed.

  • Wait: She said "Nice gay families." That's an incredible admission on Maggie's part. She recognizes that gay people are part of families. Keep going, Maggie. You're one step closer to recognizing our common humanity.

  • Wait, why is this called "Victory for Marriage"? Shouldn't it be called "Discriminated Marriage" since it took rights away from people?

  • [continued from below] So to will this dangerous heresy find new powerful agendas which we must keep from being accomplished, as soldiers in Christ Jesus. Amen.

  • My brothers in Christ Jesus.

This victory of ours is because of the great power and glory of the Lord our God.

To him be praise, honor and glory forever.

But I urge you my brothers not to let your guard down. Already there working toward Harvey Milk day here in California. I urge you all to pray against that, and many other goals for the same sex marrage agenda. Remember, let us not underestimate our enemies by ANY means. As the wolf finds new meat to hunt as the this one is ruined,

  • The California Gay Rights Group "Equa" gave up and dissolved recently.

  • I wouldn't say they dissolved, but there main campaign for so called marrage equality is done with.

    Or so I'm told.

  • Homosexualists need to be consistent with the extremist ideas they have been caught trying to force upon society. They must demand equal civil marriage rights for everyone across the board, including those who love and want to marry multiple partners, blood relatives, minors or animals, or they must stop pretending they stand for equal rights at all.

  • Homosexualists need to be consistent and stop calling for "equal civil marriage rights for homosexuals," while refusing to demand those same rights for those who want to marry multiple partners or other types of partners.

It is offensive, demagogic, and hypocritical to selfishly insist on "equal civil marriage rights for homosexuals," and undemocratically deny this right to other groups who would, by logic, deserve this same right.

  • Marriage is defined as a man and a woman.

It's not based in religion - it's based in common sense.

Even a first grader can plainly see that 2 men are not the same thing as a man and a woman.

Homosexuals are free to settle into relationships and live as they please and so they do live as they please.

But they cannot call their relationships marriage for the same reason that 2 men cannot in truth say they are in a lesbian relationship with eachother: It doesn't fit the definition.

  • Marriage has been defined MANY ways historically... do some research and post again when you're a little better informed.

  • Go Maine! GO CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!!

Yes and 8 and Yes on 1.

  • YES ON 8 AND YES ON 1.

  • It's truly a shame that a "Christian" organization completely espouses non-christian like behaviours like oppressing those they deem unworthy of the same love as everyone else. It is also a shame they would use Maggie Gallager as a spokesman for traditional marriage when she herself is a divorcee. You can get married in a courthouse without a church service and it's still valid making it a governmental institution not a religious one as such religion should keep its nose out of it.

  • Traditional Marriage has been succesful in EVERY state it has been on the ballot. Clearly, America supports Traditional Marriage.

  • At one time, America supported slavery. Doesn't make it right.

  • At this time, America supports the holocost of unborn children (4,000 in one day, IN AMERICA ALONE!).

  • Clearly someone is in denial about the divorce rate in the USA.

  • Which tradition? In my village (Native American) the tradition allowed Two-Sprit marriages long before any Christian set sail for the New World.

If you go by the Bible's version of traditional marriage then you can have 700 wives and 300 concubines (whores) like Solomon. Or be like King David and have a husband killed because you want his wife. Now that is some tradition.

  • And why would the Supreme Court make such a decision such as Brown versus the Board of education. How dare they? The majority of people would never have supported that. We should have put that to a vote.

  • Lets take it a step further. My whole family is against the marriage of my brother to his girlfriend. If the voice of the majority is so damn important, then my whole family should be able to vote on whether or not they should have the right to get married. Afterall isn't this a democracy? Isn't that what this country is all about.

  • You say the majority has spoken. In the south as late as 1967, the Supreme Court stepped in and ruled that the laws in 11 states prohibiting the marriage of interracial couples was unconstitutional. If majority is so important, if the voice of a majority is allowed to trample on the rights of a majority, then why didn't they put it to a vote? I'll bet we could have referendums even now in many southern states and people would still cast their vote against such unions.

  • This woman is hurting LGBT youth all over the country, myself included. Maine nd California makes us feel like we are less then equal, it feels horrible to have ur rights voted away, i dont understand it, i thought tht maine would be different 4 sure.

  • The description to the left of the video repeats the misunderstanding the church has. Maine's legislature passes a marriage law that included gay men and lesbians. It's a civil law. Gay 'marriage' as stated in the description may be how the church thinks of it, but that was never the law in Maine. The rite of marriage in a church never changed. Civil law did. And will, again.

  • Bible-reproduction gods will. yet men sin sperm counts so low these days cant have kids stop your sin not reproducing by

-Watch body temp: no vigorous exercise or sports no pants ,a dress or toga is good

-no stress stay home, women work & run country instead.

    jail who don't fallow.

  • Seriously, why are you people against gay marriage? We have it here in Canada, and literally NOTHING has changed for anyone who is not gay and getting married. Why do you feel the need to oppress these people who just want basic human rights?

  • They HAVE human rights...no one is imprisoning them, burning them at the stake, they face no more persecution than Christians and conservatives do. Your point is void of fact. Gay people ARE free in America to love whomever, live with whomever, and enjoy the same freedoms as any other people...we even treat illegals better than some of our citizens. Uninformed Canadians should not get involved in our disputes.

  • If you have never spent your childhood feeling like an outsider, never been called a faggot daily, never experienced physically abuse from your peers, never been denied help by a teacher, never rejected and kicked out by your parents, never felt so isolated and beyond saving that you would consider killing yourself then you cannot and SHOULD not ever speak for gays as if you know what it's like.

Look up the rights denied to civil unions. Keep in mind some states don't even allow civil unions.

  • Marriage is a right though. Gay people can't marry the 1 person they love or want to have a family with. How is that okay? Marriage is not religious. Marriage has changed definition throughout history. Gays are open about who they are now. We are progressing as society...

  • Firstly, it was not that long ago that we had sodomy laws. Secondly, all Americans families deserve to be treated equally and fairly by the state.

  • So Abortion is legal here in America and does it make that right?

  • "CNA reserves the right to edit messages for content and tone"

    Oh we know!

  • I am a Catholic convert. I believe in the mystical reality of the church and the sacraments. I am straight, married, and have a good life. I am however not pleased with the church in their zeal to defeat gay marriage, or even some kind of domestic partnership for gays. This to me is a secular issue, which in spite of all the rhetoric does not concern the church. No one is forcing the church to accept the validity of any kind of gay partnership. This is a civil rights issue.

  • You will lose. Gay marriage WILL be freely allowed in this country one day. It is simply a matter of time. And when it does, future generations will look back at this time and laught at the opponents of gay marriage and how foolish and hateful they were. Just like we look back on those who fought against the struggle for black civil rights in the 60's. You will lose. Love and tolerance WILL triumph over fear and hate. It's just a matter of time. Until then, we fight on.

  • Ohhh great job with deleting all the comments on your video! That only shows how prepared are you with debating for your statement!! Cowards have it easy...

  • time for everyone to stop using God to excuse their bigotry.

  • Thank you Our Blessed Mother and all of her wonderful little children who remain faithful to her Son.

  • It's amazing that Gallagher says "gay marriage advocates are stunned and hurt and upset" and then segues into a victory dance. It's as if she's cheering on a football team. The only difference is, while the LGBT community actually have something to lose without marriage equality, anti-gay-marriage folks have absolutely nothing to lose by allowing gays to have CIVIL marriage. We don't want you to accept us or marry us in your churches; we just want LEGAL protections afforded to hetero couples.

  • I just don't see how this helps the Catholic church in the long run and I see so much hypocrisy because I don't see the church fighting hard for other Christian values. Not to say that the church doesn't do some good in education and other things, but on balance they always seem to put the big money, and resources for changing people's view on this one thing, and in the end (like in 10 to 15 years) public opinion will be different. It reminds me of Prohibition fight.

  • Very sad. Human rights for everyone.

  • Thank you, Catholic Church for denying me my human dignity and making me feel less than the human being that GOD made me. GOD made me GAY, therefore, I AM GAY.

  • God originally made us in His image. But sin has separated us all from Himeveryone has fallen short of His glory gay or straight, man or woman, religious or atheistic, everyone is in need of the savior. Whether we are good, bad or indifferent the common thread is that we are all separated from God which is a spiritual death. He offers us lifeit is eternal and it is free, though His Son paid the greatest price.

  • Banning Gay marriage is not necessarily exclusive to Roman Catholicism. The Holy See upholds the classical concept of Natural Law which originated in ancient Greece. Natural Law Theory goes hand in hand with Christianity, since they both state that morality is not a relative concept and is embedded in logic and God-given reason, the difference being Christianity is a a religion and Natural Law is a philosophical concept.

  • Innocent, loving families have been deeply hurt.

  • @jiggleitalittle - Yes, many innocent, loving families have been deeply hurt by this right-wing bigotry.

I will repeat, though my comment will probably never see the light of day, that the evil you are doing to gay people and their *families* is all the more evil because you do it in the Lord's name.

See, no abusive language, no insults, no links.

  • @catholicnewsagency You must be doing a lot of editing

  • Great victory for marriage? We're neither shocked, nor stunned, nor surprised. The majority has never granted rights which have been explicitly denied a minority via the ballot. Slavery, women's sufferage, and integration come to mind. No state voted in favor of allowing blacks and whites to marry. I'm very proud to have people of faith calling out their churches on their obscene behavior. Hate is not acceptable.

  • Well thats a suprise. Good bravado, but useless.

Mankinds natural dignity means that all men are born free. Slavery is against that dignity. Woman' natural dignity means that women should be equal to men. Subjigation of women flies against that dignity.

No where and at no time in western culture has gay people ever been able to marry because the definition of marriage does not apply to a gay lifestyle. They are NATURALLY outside the defintion. People know that, and forcing it, cheapens it.

  • @dogafro - William Wilberforce, and English Christian, fought to have the Slavery Abolition Act 1833 established. Very few Americans owned slaves, only the wealthy and the selfish did that. Show me today where gays & lesbians are denied their rights in the USA? Same-sex marriage is a nonsense term, plucked out of the air and dressed up as 'human rights' by homosexual activists and pushed onto the nation through the courts when the people say 'no' with their votes.

  • @bgibb101 kind of like how the church pushed its ideology on the rest of the nation thru the courts to push an unconstitutional amendment like banning same sex marriage or thru a vote that shouldnt even be on the ballot because it unconstitutional. and use fear mongering lies and deception to get the votes they want?? gay marriage isnt nonsense. the arguments used against it are nonsense.

  • Yes on 8 and Yes on 1!!

Thank you St.Joepsh and Our Lady of Fatima. The Rosary proved to work again,.

  • You have no understanding of the the Rosary, or you would not be celebrating this pharisaic display of exclusion and ignorance by our Church.
