You will either be in regular or preferred risk zone. Letters are given such as AE,B,C, X. Coverage is determined by zone & amount building & personal property coverage are seperate & up to the limits of $250,000/$100,000.You have to do some work to get flood insurance it is available even if not REQUIRED by ur mortgage co U can get it

Keep in mind that the Katrina victims were essentially trapped in the area once the hurricane hit. Also, keep in mind that for many the evacuation area (stadium) was nearly destroyed by the high winds.
I'm not certain the number of hours people had to leave New Orleans. Many people wanted to help New Orleans, however people could not get in for some time due to the damage.

I seen this on the news, I was shocked to see the Courthouse under water ? I knew it was very bad because I remember attending the Frisbee championships on behalf of Dubuque 2 years in a row. My Dog Bud also competed on the courthouse lawns. Today, while visiting 2 friends at work a woman from Bagly IA visited to drop something off and I asked here what she thought of the C.R. flood ? she Stated "It was incredible" then "Biblical"? I lost my home in the flood. Remember that jackasses all over the country wouldn't eat if it wasn't for the people here. Every ear of corn, every box of Captain Crunch, everything with corn syrup in it, every bit of food in the country has it's roots in Iowa and the places like it. The biggest cereal mill in the world got flooded right here in Cedar Rapids, and it's back up and running again. The farmers busted their butts replanting their fields so that assholes that find humor in this can eat.

Will... let's see you be able to afford Flood insurancewith only $30K coming in annually with other things to worry about like kids, morgage, vehicles, other insurance, medical bills, etc. Yeah, sure... any American can get any kind of insurance... but depends upon where you live that makes up the price one pays. I think this is something YOU need to think about before posting about. Some people can afford it some cannot!

Actually, not everyone can get flood insurance. Sometimes they won't insure people in some areas. Also, LadyBarbossa is right, tough to make a living and then pay for insurance that you may never need. Also, it's like a 18 year old taking out a life insurance policy. Chances are he won't need it until he's in his 70's. We don't get many 1 in 500+ year floods.

Ppl waste $40 a month(avg cost of flood insurance)on things like Bingo,scratch off lotto tickets,beer,nascar stuff & cigarettes. Flood is NOT priced based on 100/500 year flood plain.These are layman's terms. Use the NFIP and determine your flood area you must know the details of your home. You will either be in regular or preferred risk zone. Letters are given such as AE,B,C, X. Coverage is determined by zone & amount building & personal property coverage are seperate & up to the limits of $250,000/$100,000.You have to do some work to get flood insurance it is available even if not REQUIRED by ur mortgage co U can get it

It's bad here. We are rebuilding. yes, people are frustrated. But don't compare us to New Orleans. yes we were worse than Katrina but not by the aspect of people only, but by the sheer aspect of everything that's been affected and contaminated.

Actually, unless you were there... there WAS Looting, and a couple murder and other bad things happened. Lots of people felt rather shafted by FEMA for getting only a couple thousand for their destroyed homes and possessions!
Amazingly enough, there are quite a bit of New Orlenas refugees here who made a better life for themselves and were also flooded out again! But they are being strong and picking up the pieces again!

in 93 my dad sandbagged in des moines and he said they had a wall about five feet high on a rail road track and in about six hours railroad ties were flooting by them.

yeah they are taking down farmstead, i lived in the osbourn area, all that is getting torn down, my family lost everything and i have a 6 month old baby so it's been really hard, we thought we would be ok cause our place is higher up but it got competley sumerged under water, so we only took a coulpe changs of clothes and a few other things,so yeah we lost everything.

Keep in mind that the Katrina victims were essentially trapped in the area once the hurricane hit. Also, keep in mind that for many the evacuation area (stadium) was nearly destroyed by the high winds.

I'm not certain the number of hours people had to leave New Orleans. Many people wanted to help New Orleans, however people could not get in for some time due to the damage.
