@MrAPchannel I don't know for sure, but my guess is that it is to get the reflections of the set, so that when the CG guys go in and digitally add the spoons, they have an idea of what would be reflecting off of them.
You mean four years of RTF at UT down the tubes.? Thanks to whomever posted this... Awesome. Tory TT from Austin Texas singer songwriter musican actress and Business/RTF student at UT..Thank you for the 10 minutes practical lesson on specifal effects and techniquest to save money in the film business..
ya know.... he had all these badass fucking movies... then he throws this shit out there?? i love the guy.. but spy kids? come on.. thats like tarintino directing a fucking whinnie the pooh movie....
I love how he saves money and does everything himself in his other movies but this movie looked like total ass, in all honesty. It just looked sooooo synthetic, and like a bad video game or something. It made the new Star Wars films look realistic and they were way overdone with special effects. I liked his more organic approach when he did most of the shots in camera.
We made a movie using this greenscreen over and over but a ton of location shots aswell. i think the way he does this makes sense. If you wait around for a massive budget that may never come you make nothing. This is the way to get your films made.
Okay..here is the thing about Robert. Sure...he's not Marty, he's not Stanley...he's not this incredible auteur when it comes to realism and introspective content. But...he doesn't have to be. He knows what he likes and he does it. He loves making movies, for the sake of making movies, for the sheer energy and fun it gives him. He'll make anything..he'll make friggin movies with his kids. And to top it off, out of this love, he shares his knowledge and experience with the world. God love him.
but the whole movie looks horrible, film tricks are ment to be used only a few times, not the whole film, okay save the industry by making cheap films, but what about those who don't, REAL FILMS, STANLY, MARTIN, DAVID
@Nextdirector123 Shyt, Directors themselves are overrated to a degree. They're given way too much credit. A good script and acting is just as important. Ever notice that many actors eventually direct but I don't see too many directors making the switch to acting because acting is way more difficult For the record I'm an aspiring screenwriiter/producer. I'd love for F. Gary Gray to direct my movie but if he doesnt. there are tons of others directors out there that can do it.
@CanvassBlack , I agree, Great directors surround themselves with skilled and talented workers to pull of some amazing shots and stories. And I have to disagree with you, Your not aspiring screenwriter/ producer. YOU are a screenwriter/ producer, never make yourself aspiring because then you are making yourself feel amateur, say your a screenwriter and demand the attention. Here in Hollywood those words will kill you, Advice i got from Robert Rodgriuez............ 10 min filmschool
@CanvassBlack You can have a great movie with bad acting and a great director. But you can not have a great movie with a bad director and good actors. Look atSoderberg he is the man when it comes to bad acting. Every actor that leaves his set is better than when they came in 100 times fold. Film is a directors medium and it takes a creative and brilliant mind to make you look at life a new way. Some directors working now suck but those who write classics are incredible. It's harder than it looks
@sibryce Kubrick overrated? Have you even done research on him or have you just watched his films and said "DERH well I don't get it he must be overrated." Ok you dont like his style but you should give him some respect. He influenced pretty much every big name director after him. Ask any director and they'll all say he is the best because he pushed the medium of film and changed it with nearly every movie he did. He could flip a genre upside down make it 100 times better. That's why hes king.
Rodriguez is fucking awesome but Spy Kids are fucking gay. Oh well, can't complain, he made more money off this one flick than i have in my entire life. Still a big trilogy of DVD shelf garbage though.
This whole video is just variations of "You see this shot? You think thats real? Fuck you I'm a fucking genius, look I only had a mound of dirt and a green screen, why didn't you think of that?" Still awesome video, really interesting
@ConnorGunn it can sound a bit arrogant at times, but the thing is, many people in the business really don't think out of the box. it's important to have guys like rodriguez explain this stuff, because it inspires others to use and expand those techniques to save money, which in turn makes a small/medium budget achieve the results of a big/huge budget movie. less cost for a movie means more profit, means more movies get produced without a drop of quality. win/win for filmmakers and audience
@spec10 I was just joking, I am a huge rodriguez fan, I have his book Rebel Without a Crew and it is one of the most helpful and inspiring filmaking books I have read, I was just making an observation
@spec10 I found it at the library a block away from my house. It is very cool and as a comic artist; I can relate how using cheap alternatives can help as long as every thing planned thoroughly and with hard work.
