My father was born in Maria Alm, Austria and I was born in America. This American song - with Austrian "roots" - connects me to both. One of the loveliest songs ever written. I have a CD of the Sound of Music sung in German, (Meine Lieder, Meine Traume) and Edelweiss especially sounds like it has always been SUNG in German.

@rhapsodyblue56 Thank you for your nice comments. Yes, you have to visit Salzburg and other parts of Austria to enjoy more. The video was filming by MelvinEU when he was in Salzburg. The music of course was sung by the Wiener Sangerknaben. The choir has also performed in Zel-Am-See.

I need to make it back to Austria I passed through there last year on the Orient Express but didnt spent any time there unfortunatlly..I love hearing the Vienna Boys Choir I grew up hearing this music as a kid from my grandmother being a Choir Boy myself we used to sing this piece trully beautifull

@MelvinEU no problem this piece broght back alot of my childhood memories hitting those notes like that was hard its a precise art and quite Beautifull as demonstrated here by the Masters when performed Correctlly I spent almost a whole day passing through Austria as mentioned and wished we were stoping but we just passed through on our way to BudaPest Romania and beyond but what I saw of Austria I loved especilly how Precise the Railroad system is I will be in Germany in December and might try

this is Beautifull especilly sung by this Chior I grew up hearing this from my grandmother but I am comfused why did I first find this on youtube here under Nazi German War songs?this is so much prettier than that version I first found and much more piecefull not so gruff sounding

Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful song! Haydnchor is touring Japan right now and I went twice to their concerts. They sang several songs from "Sound Of Music" and we all loved the way they sang, beautiful harmony and the great perfomances by the soloists! So nice to have them here in Japan again!

Thank you for the update. I'm glad that you had seen them twice in Japan. Yes, Haydnchor is very good, they sing wonderfully. All 4 choirs are equally educated in Wien, but I love Haydnchor and Schubertchor very much for the past 2 years. I do try to see all 4 choirs in every year to be fair.

i remember listening to the sound of music soundtrack as a child (born in the 80's) i never forgot the lyrics or the melodies :)

Please also listen to the song "Village Swallow From Austria". It is on one of my video channel. You will appreciate that song also. It is a very difficult song to sing, but Haydnchor sang it very well with no problem. Haha
