Saturday, 25th September 2010 - at 82 - the man is a legend in his own lifetime. He is still magic to listen to. I felt privileged to see him live and I hope not for the last time. His Stranger on The Shore was still incredible. Thank you Acker Bilk.
@sixtiesforever1966 Acker Bilk was doing a tour in the UK 2010 and its the second time I have been to see him. He captivates the audience and its magic. I saw him in Staffordshire (U.K.) on both occasions.
I guess I can not have a favorite of any of his songs. They are all great.... This sounds like it was from a old scratchy record but still great. Is this from the James Bond Movie???
I tried to post this reply before but it just seemed to disappear, so I apologise if it shows up twice.
Petite Fleur was played on clarinet by Monty Sunshine in Chris Barber's Jazz Band way back in 1959, when I was the drummer with Chris Mercer's Imperial Jazzmen. Happy days! Unless I'm mistaken, Acker Bilk didn't record that number, but somebody might prove me wrong.
@Islandladyrealtor As to a post of September 2010 above Mr.Acker Bilk is 82 and still playing to audiences. Even if it is to a small Pub with a hand full of people that to me is great to be able to still woo an audience. " Applause Acker Bilk "
Eighty-two years old and still touring, with dates slated in until January 2012! Good luck, Acker, and thanks for the music!

Love the scratchy 45rpm record. It gives a lot of charm to this recording. Nostalgic for me, anyway.

@pamquarton Where did you see him play? In and around his home town?
I have been in love with his music since the 1960's when he had a hit in the USA.

His real name was Bernard, Bilk but "Acker" was village slang for "mate", and he was by no means the only Acker in Pensford, UK back then. . David
