another winner! aside from the obvious "rocky" (which i saw twice at the theatre back then) my personal faves would be "the man who fell to earth" and "mother, juggs and speed. " also multiple viewings at the cinema. :D
...so many movies....Carrie is prob the fave, Bad News Bears...did I see Logan's Run in there?...Network is so funny and Murder by Death is always on one of the obscure cable stations....good job...
How i love your 70's series, movies were great back then. Like your description explains, it wasn't mainstream and bad movies were also good to watch. Thanks to the long scenes actors had to be good. Favourite 1976 flick for me is "Murder by Death". Thanks for sharing!!
AhYes Craig did miss this one twice IT seems Like De Ja Vu 4 in"76" After seeing sum very big larger than Life Visions Eye Dropped owt of society no Radio / Tv or Newspapers etc ...Myth Steer ious Lee tha same year that Dentist messed with mi teeth So awl eye can say 2 DustIN 'n' the Brothers iz 'R' 'U' TAWKIN 2 Mi ? ¸..•*¨ There's a Lot more 2 say 'bout that very speciAL year, Hollywood has covered some stuff 4 that Psychological Sub conscious mime ... In retro Spect eye Luv' IT Bruv' ♥
Love it! Man, I'd never thought of it, but that was a tremendous year. Great to start with Peter Finch's Oscar-winning role in Network. With that, he became the first actor to win a posthumous Oscar... followed by Heath Ledger, who wasn't even born yet. (Notice that they were both Australians? Spooky, huh?)
BTW, who is that weird-looking character on 1:34? He looks like the Joker as played by Jim Carrey - but I assume he was terrifying back in '76.
@Noivedya thanks man, the guy is from "Burnt Offerings" don't know the name of the actor, but the movie starred Oliver Reed, Bette Davis, and 70's mainstay Karen Black...yeah I loved 76, that's why I did it first..lol
@MADWORLD1427 Whoever he is, you chose his image over a cast like that - twice! (He was in the 1970s tribute as well, right?) That's a cool boast for any actor. (Still, the uncanny Jim Carrey resemblance takes away a lot of the sense of menace.)
@Noivedya well Oliver Reed is showed first then it goes into him, just looked him up, his name is Anthony James, and in 1976 there was no Jim Carrey Riddler, never thought about him looking like Carrey until you brought it up, if you watch the movie he is pretty damn creepy!
@MADWORLD1427 OK - I'll see if I can track it down. I'd forgotten that Carrey played the Riddler, but I can tell that this guy must have been creepy. Great choice of image!
Wow,awesome vid Craig!!! Omg,yeah,"76" was a great year in cinema indeed!! Altho I was just ten*eh hem*years old,and couldn't watch a lot of these movies,I could still appreciate them, when I got older, they were just brilliantly done! Thank U hun for yet another awesome tribute,u still rockin in the new year Craig, hahaha! Keep up the awesome work!~LaDy T♥♥♥
Taxidriver, the Logan's Run, Burnt Offerings, Silver Streak ... and some more of my movies favorittas are there. Thank you for this tribute, great year no doubt.
..Made with the usual skill and knowledge....NETWORK IS ALL TOO SCARILY PROPHETIC......with Piers Morgan replacing Larry King....the media has become as mad as hell.....and I do not mean angry.
i dont recognise many films here, but I love taxi driver, such an amazing film. i love how its shot, and all the cinematic effects used. really shows the inner demons of someone who just cant quite fit in, cant abide to societies rules
I've missed your vids dude, are you guna be doing vids for every year of cinema?
You are welcome! I wish modern films had the daring of the 70s. There are attempts but no one has dared to do what Network and a few others did that year.
1976 was a great year for film. We had sociopolitical satire (at least it was at the time, now its fact, how sad that fact is) in Network, a political thriller in All The President's Men, a truly uplifting story of an underdog that people can relate to in Rocky, a tribute to 30s populist cinema in that movie about Woody Guthrie, a dark look at the urban jungle of the city in Taxi Driver, and many more classics.
Back in the 70's (mid) my mother would hand me $4.00 and say, "get out of my hair and go to the movies." Had to be creative to get in to the rated R ones, like bribe the girl in the box office, so I could see Taxi Driver. yes I have seen alot of these. Thanks MadWorld1427
1976 was a great year, as you showed. But, just for me to know, what was so remarkable in 1939? I think that Gone with the winds, Wizard of Oz and Wuthering Heights are the only movies that come to my head. Well, there is also Goodbye, Mister Chips, but this is not so spectacular. Great efition.
You had me @ " A FIFTH OF BEETHOVEN" 1971 "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" Mel Stuart "Shaft" Gordon Parks "Klute" Alan J. Pakula "The Conformist" Bernardo Bertolucci (thx to you) "A Clockwork Orange" Stanley Kubrick (we are all victims of the modern age. love that line) "Johnny Got His Gun" Dalton Trumbo "The Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes" Stan Brakhage "There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Living there, you'll be free if you truly wish to be." Willy Wonka
Many really good films from 1976. Still love the film "Network". One of the greats about the 'media'. De Niro was also decent in the '76 film "1900". I like this idea, Craig!
I wished to begin by naming all the radiant stars shining in this perfectly made homage - sublime and apt musical choice, by the way - but had to stop as I could not keep up with your p[ace...............
There was a rough, insouciant innocence about many of the films of '76. What I think you are grasping onto, wisely, were the fertile seeds of what was to come in Hollywood - Taxi Driver, namely. Scorsese, DeNiro ..... nascent virtuosity was in the air in '76.
Well remember I'm currently working on my own year vids similar to you and Paul's vids and that is taking up time, but that 2010 video may be up tomorrow or late tonight. But thanks for the offer, I'm interested in seeing your next year vids.
Craig, your last idea to editing the most important films divided by year is excellent!! I still remember with love your videos on the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s!! :) If I had to remember the 1976 film, then I could not ignore such films as Network, Taxi Driver, Rocky, The Omen. Excellent editing!! Perfect adaptation musical!!
Can someone please tell me the films used in this video? I've seen a few of them already, but because 1976 is my favorite year in film, I would like to know all of the films used in this excellent montage.
In all honesty, my main focus is the past 40 years in film...the 70s no particular year stands out cause all of them are great. The only year from that decade that I think is weak is 1970. 1999 is a definite contender for me personally off the top of my head. The latter half of the 90s was really strong with the focus on indy films thanks to pulp fiction. The early 80s I love. 92 is an incredible year for a time period I wasn't too thrilled with. 02, 04, 07 and 08 for the past decade
Thought Eraserhead was '77...
