Thank you so much for posting this.it's oneof the best versions I have ever heard, if not the best. I have never heard of Brian Kennedy before. He has the most wonderful voice and I love the Irish accent. Where on earth would I see him live. That would be fantastic. Thanks Lyn. x
Brian puts so much compassion into his singing-whether it's one of his own sings or not~ this guy is a treasure, a rare breed sadly, I live in Co Kerry but I'd travel anywhere to see him xx
This guy has the most incredible voice in the world at the moment and yet when you watch the interview with van morrison on another website he says that no other musician or singer has ever excited him enough to make mention of and yet he used this guy as a backup singer for quite a few years!!!!!!!
cf1934.. Thankyou for the link. Templebar, a 6 six block by 3, just south of the centre of Dublin. Liffey River to Dame Street, and Parliment Street to Westmorland Street. Shook hands with Brian once, but saw him about a dozen times. This guy is definately touched by God. Cheers.......
@cf1934 Temple Bar is in Dublin - a beautiful part of the city. Would love to know how I ca get this song. Not on itunes. Does anyone know the album it's on.
. be quiet u pennyless irish bum. u know very well we can have ur women and do when ever we want, there whores mate u only have to look out ur front door and ull see the filty irish women walking around with black african children in there buggys! your females are whores to us and the also through them selves at the big black AIDS niggers every chance they get..and the out come 4 u fools is no women 4 the cowardly irish man and no jobs as we and the dirthy niggers work every day!
never let the hope die, that you´ll see her on earth again. That was what gave me so much strength when my mam died 12 years ago. Even the thought of it that I could whisper to her about this unique hope on her last breath gives me strength still today.
My mum passed away one year ago today,we couldn't have any chosen songs in the church only hymns, the priest let us have a c.d. player at the graveside.we played the fields of athenry by Brian Kennedy.thankyou for putting this up ,beautiful song !!!
This is a beautiful version, although I gotta admit I love the Dropkick Murphys version too. But I really look at them differently, and don't compare them like they're the same song.
Lovely version. Brings out the the great tenderness and the tragic loss of love due to injustice. This is a song for the many families destroyed by the cruel laws of the 1800s in Ireland, England and Scotland. Yet those laws were less vicious than those in continental Europe. Thank God for the Labour movement.
Reminds me of Dan Fogelberg's Leader of the Band. But it's a little to purist for my taste. The version featured in the film Veronica Guerin is dramarically strking and a real tear jerker.
@davmccorm yeah you got a point there fella, from another fellow Englishman! However some guy was telling me that it was actually written in the 1970's. Not sure if he's right but wikipedia (obviously always right ^^) agreed and I was really surprised that it wasn't written in the 18th Century. So maybe the pure version captures the essence anyway.
@Davamir13 Pete St. John did record it in 1970 and always claims it to be his, but it is so close to one found from over 120 yrs ago, but who really cares lol, its a lovely song
