  • Shame the towel heads are dead 5 seconds before they hear the guns. BBBrrrrruuuuuupppp. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

  • A beautiful winged gun.

  • deadly gun fart

  • Dear Santa..

  • @zvegasz HAHA! Best two word comment EVER!!

  • i call the gatling gun on this thing "silent but deadly" lol

  • @ZombieManiax if i were on the rear part of the plane, i would call that gun anything but SILENT.

  • How hard is it to become a pilot for one of these puppies? Is it any easier or harder than training for a normal fighter jet?

  • @ControlWise Most pilots trains for a specific airplane, but you can be retrained for different. I would not recommend it for a life career because automated pilots are becoming more popular, not sure if the military will remove all pilots but for sure you can see most bombers being automated and with cruise missiles lots of plain don't need to liftoff, commercial pilots are also being treated like safety devices.

  • @ControlWise i am a retired A-10 thunderbolt 2 pilot if you still have any questions send me a message and ill be glad to answer them

  • @A10thunderbolt231 Sir, you have spent your life living my dream.....

I'm gutted the A-10 isn't based in England anymore. I remember a sunny Friday afternoon long ago when a load of A-10's (they'd be from RAF Bentwaters or Woodbridge) were evidently using the village in middle England where I grew up as target practice. Round and round they went, for hours on end into the evening. I was less than 10 years old; I've never forgotten it. The sound of that plane makes me shiver! Just gotta love it.

  • @bearman74 It is an amazing plane for sure it will be a sad day when these are retired (that will also be the day i retire)

  • 19th century wet dream!

  • Personal favorite, out of all weapons of any kind. I just love A-10's, something about that demonic belch at the end...

  • What a beauty! It looks like victory, the winged goddess.

  • Like they say,,, Go Ugly Early! Our Wisconsin boys did so much damage with A-10s in Desert Storm, they took them away from them and gave them F-16's. I really miss the Warthogs.

  • love it love it love it

  • The warthog!

  • The Fart of Death.....lmao....

  • jeez 1 round destroys a tank... what would be left if 1 round hit a person?

  • Red mist.

  • The fart of death.

  • I just love the sound of that gun!!!

  • 1 bullet destroys a tank eey :\ how big and how much teflon must be on such thing 0_0

  • The Anti-Armor rounds are made of depleted uranium or tungsten.

  • so when that plane shoots the target becomes radio active? jeez XD

  • Yes when DU is used it contaminates the area surrounding the target with vaporized and particulate uranium. It is very controversial, has lead to birth defects in areas of use and to people exposed. Many people including our soldiers are not informed on the dangers and some speculate the neurological damage to US Soldier during the Gulf War were from exposure to DU rounds which were used by aircraft and Abrams tanks. There are alternatives and DU shouldn't be used, but who's going to stop them..

  • I agree. Although depleted uranium is said to be mildly radioactive I still think it should not be used. It might be effective, and cheap, well practically free as it's nuclear waste but it's not worth the problems it causes. As far as using it in armor it's also effective but if it were to be destroyed it could be very harmful to the crew protected by it.

  • The specific radioactivity level is not the real danger. The danger is that it replaces metals in your body and remains there for an indefinite period of time continually irradiating your cells and causing damage, U-238 is an Alpha emitter which has a half life of 4.46 billion years... Alpha Radiation has very low penetration but is extremely destructive when emitted inside the body. A contaminated area will remain so forever and will be a danger to anyone for the rest of humanities existence.

  • When you put it like that, wow... this stuff should be illegal. Consequences seem to far outweigh the benefits but maybe they aren't considering that especially when it's not their land being poisoned. : /

  • Its against certain treaties but those are only good if countries obey them... DU is very effective as armor and kinetic penetrator rounds. The United States also makes all of its bunker busters out of DU and in some cases a single bomb may way a ton or more. You can use DU as an area denial weapon, it will damage local populations over time resulting in their destruction through population depletion or deformity... Natural resources such as oil can still be extracted from contaminated land.

  • what is the advantage of this over a misile?

  • Bullets are less expensive.

  • More ammo = more kills

Like he said, one bullet can kill a tank, 1500 rounds on the plane.

  • the plane will come back, the missile on teh other hand, more then likely will not.

  • THe A-10 is basically a flying tank, 1/3 as fast as the teen fighters, but 3x-4x the armor and unmatched manuveurability. Can take a straight shot from SAM and keep on truckin. Just awesome.

  • @adambooker01 A SAM would knock anything out the sky! :o

  • @careyfleet the a-10 can continue to fly with 1 engine missing, one wing, one tail fin, and no landing gear. the amount of redundant systems in the aircraft allow it to perform beyond crippling conditions for almost all modern aircraft. also, when a-10's are present in the theater, somewhere far above is usually a set of fighters scanning for radar returns such as SAM's targeting systems. you turn on a SAM, and a fighter will drop a missile on you. not to mention chaff n flares via a-10

  • @careyfleet ~O.o~ sure it will \giggle

  • if you must have something this is it.

  • When the soviet union dissolved, alot of cold war records and military documents were released and at the VERY TOP of the list of things the Russian Command were worried about was the A-10.......... sweet. There's a reason we don't export it.

  • the russian tanker's nightmare......

  • I just love this bird! Saw one once on a layover at the air terminal i was working at years ago. Fell in love with them than and still am. Awesome!

  • i was at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, 86-92... i never got tired of watching theses , every day i was there...plus the public air show demos, were always, ALWAYS crowd pleasers...lol

  • yeah it was never ment for Air to Air but if the MiG was within the even playing field for the A-10 the Thunderbolt would have an easy kill if the pilot had any skill at aiming that monster.. as reviously said.. it can turn on a dime... and that cannon wouldnt even notice another aircraft.. little known fact the first A/A kill in Iraq was Made in an A10 the pilot was tailed by a mig on a dive and the MiG couldnt pull out in time and crashed but the Warthog jerked up and glided away ... priceless

  • dude it be sweet to see wat the A-10 would do to another plane

  • A-10s in Desert Storm worked in teams with f-16s or f-15s providing air cover as they laid down close air support. The Iraqi prisoners called them "The Devil's Cross."

  • lol, the gun sounds like a fart

  • deadliest fart ive seen...

  • lulz

  • @bassbone1785

the one and only, you`re never able to smell! :)

  • @MrDonnar Or hear for that matter.

  • @bassbone1785 LMFAO

  • Yeah, a "not-so-silent" but very deadly fart.

  • The A-10 Warthog is a Ground Support Aircraft and is NOT built for dogfights. The MiG would lock onto it and shoot it out of the sky before it could react. If you want proof of look up the Thunderbolt from WW2. The Warthog is made from the same idea, that is why it is called the Thunderbolt 2 or Warthog. The original was known as the Razorback. That also said, i agree with Goose i would want a 30mm gun pointed at me either.

  • I disagree. While the A-10 isn't built for air to air combat, it's extreme manoueverability and counter-measures package woudl allow it to turn inside most other aircraft and can you imagine what the GAU-8 would do to an aircraft! It's certainly not a soft target.

  • this is the greatest plane ever made!

  • mm, not the graetest.

    but one of them

  • try to think about a Mig-29 and a A-10A in a dog fight 3000ft above the ground... in a speed below 300 knots... i have just one little thing to say... Gatling 30mm...

  • this plane was especially designed for cas missions...if it's used in a dogfight against a Mig-29 or any other "hunter",it will lose....

  • Yeah, but a lot of those Migs are shaped like bullets-no fair.

  • these fly over my house all the time

  • beautiful

  • try 6000 rounds a min... thats 1000 rounds in 10 seconds..

  • its 4,200 rounds per minute.

  • advertised capabilities of weapons systems and actual capabilities arent always the same.... LOL

  • 1200 rounds in 17 seconds - if they want to.

  • God, I hate Gila Bend...

  • Absolutely. I feel for the soldiers who get put through this shit and then discarded. The war is resulting in massive profits for companies like halliburton and the carlyle group. companies which have bush and cheeny on the board of directors. • did it give you depleted uranium poisoning as well?

half of gulw war one troops are now on permanant disability benifit and unable to work. over 300,000 of them

  • mmm mmm mmmm. Spread that Depleted Uranium around so we can all ask WHY DOES MUM HAVE CANCER.

Armour piercing rounds frim this aircraft are spreading nuclear waste and depleted uranium dust around the world.

  • Your mum drove tanks for the Iraqi army?

  • hey, mine to

    crazy

  • gran bel aeroplano

  • A-10's have gas LOL!!!!! *gun fires* FARTING NOISE LOL!!!!!1

  • Bring it on you terrorist retards. technology will prevail. just wait until we unleash the terminators

  • sounds like a fart after it fires lol

  • I wanna smell like gun powder....

  • Troppo bello quest'aereo...anche se è degli anni '60 per me è e sarà sempre il migliore W le mitragliatrici abbasso i missili

  • Mech infantry's best friend. They are awesome and the pilots are fearless.

  • Beautiful aircraft...

  • Some would disagree about its looks, but it's nevertheless a fantastic aircraft!

  • It looks as dangerous as it is and flies like a dream. Beautiful and fantastic.

  • I'm going to fly one these. I just need to pass OTS and UPT with high scores. It will happen...I hope.

  • DAng dude.

    Good luck

  • Good luck. Unfortunately you'll probably be one of the last, but that doesn't make me any more jealous.

  • I love this plane. It's my first T-38 pick. I'm going to be very upset if I don't see it on the slide show on assignment night.

  • I have got to laugh at the opening speach of this video about friendly fire incidents and the training to help stop it. Well the training did not help my fellow country men that got killed in iraq by friendly fire by the piolots codenamed popov fucking yank pricks.

  • that was a really sad incident but you know damn well how badly the pilots felt after that. no pilot wnts to accidently hit their friends like that. =(

  • It's unfortunate that your countrymen and our allies were injured and killed by a friendly fire attack, but if you watch that video of the attack you would know that the pilots checked several times to make sure they weren't friendly but there was a miscommunication, it happens and everyone involved is very sorry so stop being a dick.

  • Stop being a dick i am sorry but i would accept that it was a genuine mistake if it wasnt happening all the time i mean they saw the orange marks on top of the tanks and trucks and yeah sure they questioned it but i think it was pretty funny how the miscommunication was rectified after wards.

  • Plus how would you feel if your father was killed by a mistake by your allies cos it happened to mine the first time back in the 90's .And again it got blamed on miscommunication instead of just plain ignorence from the shoot now ask l8er attatude of the us millitary.

  • I'd be pissed if it was my father killed no doubt about it, but looking at the video... come on now how can you seriously be like well they're incompetent, the Pilots did not get in trouble because they followed protocol and asked about the panels, however the Air Battle Manager in charge of the air war did get a new hole ripped in his ass.

  • Thats fair enough about the air battle manager but do u really think it is fair that the people that actually fired got promoted i am sorry. Plus looking at the vid they knew what was they were looking at why did they not just do a low altititude fly by to make sure thats y i say they were incompetent.

  • That's a good point, Fear, fear of the unknown, fear of the chance that those orange panels were rockets. It's the fear that causes us to make mistakes.

How long after the incident did they get promoted?

  • Not long after he returned home to something like a lt col i think it was. Quick question do u think it was fear thatb made another us pilot drop a bomb into the middle of one of our ( Brit army ) compound in afghanistan only a few weeks ago go on tell me that was fear.

  • I have an idea since your apparently so angry towards the U.S.

Think about how the U.K. 17 division that was bombed by the RAF.

The javelin missiles that the British troops fired on a dutch patrol killing 2 about a month ago.

and the dutch killing Canadians in Afghanistan in a bombing incident.

More that just the U.S. is suffering from these casualties, but only the U.S. gets heat for it because everyone is out to get the U.S. and I don't blame them our administration is crap.

  • If your really so angry about the U.S. air support, then join the military and make sure the Brits don't call for air support, then you won't have such incidents in close combat with insurgents.

  • Did you read soulboarder316's reply? Do you have an answer? Friendly fire happens. It's a testament to our joint forces abilities and training that given the rigors of modern combat, it doesn't happen more often.

  • THat was a mistake. You hear about those sorts of things all the time. I just find it ironic that an F-16 "precision" bomber completely missed the target. Never mind, America are our allies.

  • You trust your orders, a low altitude flyby to confirm would likely get you shot down on the next pass. You should never let them see you coming.

  • The A-10's are getting overhaul jobs. They've proven themselves and just need some upgrades to stay ahead of the game.

  • The A-10 is perhaps the toughest plane ever built. Seen them take anti-aircraft fire and missles and still fly home. Heard somewhere that they can lose a whole engine completely off the plane and still fly home.

  • Scary thing is that the GAU 8 is not the only weapon at the pilots disposal. He/She has Maverick Missiles, Hydra Rockets, Paveway Bombs-a very unhappy day for who ever is on the ground.

  • except for the ground troops they are supporting... we love them, nothing I'd rather have flying above

  • the gun is so powerful that it actually slows the plane down when it is being shot, amazing

  • Yeah most people say it sounds like farting. I was at a Civil Air Patrol providing assistance at a training exercise and I remember telling everyone the A-10 sounded like farting. I forget but I heard something like 100 rounds are fired before the first one hits it's target.

  • sounds like it farts when it shoots

  • I second that cowboy! former mh-53 crew chief, c-130j-30 crew chief now....crew chiefs can tell you everything about their aircraft, without us pilots are just pedestrians with cool jackets and sunglasses

  • get off your high horse crew chief are glorified gas station attendants u wanna learn something about ask an avionics troop

  • Well, all I'm gonna say is I get to work on these outstanding areospace vehicles so I know what it can and cannot do.

"If it turns, burns, banks and rolls, Crew Chiefs made it happen!"

  • And the A-10 aint going away anytime soon.

    Can anybody say C-Mods????

(Which is preety much an avionics and weapons system overhaul and upgrade, gonna be dropping JDAMS and all the fancy GPS stuff)

  • Fuckin love this plane !

  • Barrels made out of Titanium. Will warp if gun fires longer then 3 seconds. <--- wrong.

they do 2 second bursts, 5 second burst, and if anything survives that a full 10 second burst would be used. theres a video of a 10 second burst, but the gun isn't mounted in the aircraft.

  • The soud is funny

  • That's freakin' awesome. But when it fires, almost sounds reminiscent to farting.

  • Good ol American muscle

  • The GAU-8 also recycles fired rounds into the magazine so they don't ingest the casings. The gun's not particularly accurate when judged by short range AGM standards, either. But I'd imagine 9-10 direct hits (especially if any one goes through the roof of the turret) is enough to frag an MBT.

  • The gun WILL overheat. It's simple physics. The barrel gets hotter with each round fired because of the gases and friction, period. The idea of "firing so fast it's empty before it can overheat" is ridiculous.

Also, the recoil is not an issue, but the powder gas is; there are fins on the wing to direct the gas away from the intakes so they don't choke out. This was actually a problem they noticed in flight testing and fixed.

  • Excellent video and footage, the GAU-8 Rocks

  • -Firing +Farting

  • And we used to say the Gun firing was like a Giant Firing

  • the hog likes to fart

  • Rad.

  • I'm surprised they didn't mention the A-10 slows down considerably when they fire the gun. Supposedly they fire short bursts because of it. My dad's pilot buddy used to fly them and he was saying if you dump the whole clip at one time you could possibly slow down enough to just about fall out of the sky.

  • true, but most probably before firing the whole ammo pack you would overheat, damage and even explode the gun.

  • I read somewhere that you could fire the whole clip(1200 rounds) in less than 17 seconds and that it wouldn't have time to overheat...

  • it could be, but I think we have either:

    1. suboptimal design (it is always fired in rounds of 1-2s so why to make it heavier)

    2. 17s is really enough to overheat much smaller machine guns of alibers 5.45mmm 7.26mm etc. including gatlings mounted f.ex. historically in blackhawks. so if GAU-30 can withstand it, is is really unique almost whole chain gun inventory.

  • If you fired 1200 rounds in one burst you could warp the barels. As for the gun itself overheating I don't think that is possible. Either way they don't need more than a 2 or 3 second burst to destroy a target. I was told they never fire all 1200 rounds at once, but if you did you might nosedive.

  • I've asked the pilot of the 81-1963 (based @ Spangdahlem, Germany) if this story was true, but he said he'd never recognised this. So this drop in airspeed is so little that the pilot isn't aware of it.

  • Drop in Air Speed when gun is Fired? Never Proven. The ignighters in the engine do fire when the gun is on. Barrels made out of Titanium. Will warp if gun fires longer then 3 seconds. Gun is a Standard fire from 1 Barrel. Firing pin meconism makes bullets fire unlike the F-15 electric firing pin. This has a real firing pin like in a home gun.

  • LOVE THE HOG!!!

  • "BRAAAAAAAAAAAP" God that sound sooooo freakin cool!

  • Now explain to me why a gun weighting 300kg, caliber 30mm can 'can tear apart a tank' firing at shallow angle, while at the same time a few ton 105mm gun from 'generic venerable iraqi tank' had well known problems with this around 1990. Note the missile weight ratio is around 40:1, same speed, both are APFSDS, both can contain dense depleted uranium.

There is a lot of flat propaganda in that movie.

  • um no

  • A-10's hit the top of tanks. Thin armor. t-55 needs to get within 1000 metres of an abrams to kill it. by then its usually dead. t-55 fire control is archaic.

  • I respect the A-10 and all but they should call it the flying fart, that's what it sounds like lol.

  • haha yeah.

  • some of you people (excludingleavemealone2006,strikeeagle62,zachhcazdude)are stupid as hell and dont now what your talking about. yourso stupid your comparing to other american planes. and their all made for different tasks. what your saying when you put it up against the f18 or thef22 is like putting a lion agians a killer whale. if your in the african savanah...of course the lion gonna win. but if your in cold northern waters the fuckin whale is gonna win.

  • lmao kite i never said it wasnt great at certain tasks i said that it isnt much of a dogfighter...most modern day planes could take it down...but thats why the a10s would have supportif we were fighting a counttry w/ an airforce

and by the way insulting other people by name-calling over soomething that isn't a big deal just makes u seem like an asshole 2 everyone else

  • my favorite 4th gen planes are the f15 and a10. The a10 is definately not designed for dogfighting, but there are situations where it would win. It has better turning rate, is more stable, and is as quick as most other jets, plus its armor would take most cannon fire from other fighters and no other fighter could take the gau 8. However, these advantages only apply in a small number of situations. the BVR capabilities of most aa fighters today would prevail in most situations.

  • haha the a-10 is not designed for dogfights. lol

    its for CAS(close sir support).

  • designed for CAS, true...but any aircraft with a gun on it can be used in a dogfight, it just depends on the pilot`s skill. A veteran dogfighter in one of these could probably whup a rookie in a Mig or other comparable craft.

  • yes, i have seen shoot live fire at targets, and my cousin flies one. and i didn't say it wasn't a wonderful jet. trust me, you may like to think it's great all around, but it wouldn't last in a dogfight.

  • the A-10 is not designed to fight other planes its meant for ground attack only. thats like saying that a tank doesent stand a chance against a plane, thats because it doesent.

  • thank u, i'm not the only one who knows what he's talking about.

  • shut the fuck up cuz aparenty you dont

  • your full of shit to. the a-10 is a multipurpose LOW ALTITUDE fighter/bomber and if nesicarry can sustain air to air combat for short dog fights

  • It is NOT multipurpose, it's specifically made for CAS and is not a dogfighter. That said, I wouldn't want a GAU-8 trained on my plane if I was fighting it.

  • for some reason british narrators make shows 320% better. poiehfsd

  • this is because they used to practice as a scientist in james bond movies.

  • this is because they used to practice as a scientist in james bond movies.

  • fart gun

  • In a Dogfight who need s missiles when you got 1200 rounds of huge ass anti material 30mm rounds that fire at least 100 rounds for 5 milliseconds

  • its 70 rounds per sec. and this plane is very stable and capable of incredible climbs, but is very slow and unmeneuverable compared to fighters from 20 years ago, much less modern fighter jets. ground attack only. a helicopter would give it serious problems.

  • Are you kidding? THe A-10 is probably one of the MOST maneuverable aircraft, in part because of its slow speed.

  • No, the A-10 can turn on a dime on account of its slow speed and huge straight wings. It's one of its distinguishing characteristics.

  • thats how machines should be,big, ugly, and intimidating!

  • 100 rounds per 5 milliseconds? where did u get that from? its about 70.5 rounds per second, and plus, it wouldn't help in a dogfight. one long range air to air missle could do the job. it wouldn't be able 2 dodge it either because it isn't very manuverable. great for ground targets, no doubt, but i would have 2 disagree with u when it comes 2 dogfighting.

  • you say not very manuverable? I take it you never seen them fly at an airshow or even been around them,They can out manuver most aircaft flying , but they are designed for close ground support, not dog fighting, BUT I bet if a gun was just used.. this baby would rule the skies. the A-10 is a wonderful aircraft

  • colloradoballer2006 it wouldn't stand a chance against an f-18. or in that case, any modern fighter.

  • because its made for taking out ground targets, not other aircraft

  • the philippines needs 36 A10s for close air support in its counter insurgency operations and naval patrol for would be intruder aircraft and naval craft.

  • even though it was made for close air support, i bet they would kick a f-18's ass

  • If it could catch the Hornet. The F-18 could probably shoot the A-10 down before the Hog's crew even knew it was there.

  • your full of shit... there both american planes you ass whole. oh and the a-10 would kick the hornets ass at loww altitude so shut the fuck up

  • I said "probably" You're probably right, but at higher altitudes and farther distances wouldn't the hornet have the advantage?
