  • Saw them play this in 1974......all 8 minutes of it....ELO is a GREAT BAND

  • My favorite version of ROB...first heard it in 1972, when I was 10 years old. Was listening to the local AM rock station, as it was playing the crazy stuff they used to play at midnight. I heard Beethoven's Fifth and then, when the guitar riff came out, it sent a charge through me (was used to Jackson Brothers and The Osmonds). Became a rock fan that night.

  • I was DJ at a party one time and everyone was going crazy on the floor, And then I played this. I started getting some strange looks, and then that lead gat kicked in. One of the best versions of this there is IMOP.

  • Learned to love ELO through my dad in the 70's and still rock my world today over the other crap out there!

  • This is great, just put Beethoven and rock`n roll together..

  • My dad hates rock and thinks this song is a kind of sacrilege besmirching and mocking the great composer's name. Now I actually like Beethoven as much as my dad but love this song. It's not either/or! I actually think ELO are paying the man respect here. But then my dad thinks rock corrupts youth anyway and will lead to the breakdown of western civilisation.

  • @zxychesatz349 does your dad thnk your ok? if yes than he's wrong

  • @mjsmcd Care to expand mate?

  • @zxychesatz349 i mean you havnt been corrupted have you?

  • @zxychesatz349 That's what people said about Beethoven when he was a teenager ~_^

  • @zxychesatz349 Just tell him it's long haired music continued at it's finest!

  • @zxychesatz349 It will....but so does country music and broadway musicals, In actuality, Beethoven, Mozart, et. al., were the rock stars of their day, and alot of clergy of their day thought their music was harmful to the youth.

  • wlangley88 said it best. "Just a great song!"

  • Will always love ELO

  • FELICITACIONES, EXCELENTE MATERIAL Y CALIDAD DE AUDIO

  • How could ANYone not like this???!!!

  • Bev Bevan! One of the most underrated drummers in the history of rock n' roll

  • Blood pumping music, I love it@

  • Love Chuck, Love the Beatles,

BUT , ELO, actually had Beethoven intoduce the song , and through out

  • @elkabongtx I didn't know Beethoven was a session musition ;P

  • i love the original, but this is my favorite version!!!!

  • Roll Over Beethoven, WOOOO! If someone did that song today, they'd probably auto-tune the "WOOOO" part.

  • Ich bin hin und weg. Voll Cool. R.S

  • Memphis, '78. Great concert!

  • First time i heard this today on the Radio and was very impressed. Never knew about this version and i really liked it. I actually thought it was new at first. Sounded great

  • I heard ELO in east Detroit about 1982; Harpos? I had a lot of things going on, girlfriend stuff. They started playing and I was slayed. Just blown off of my feet the whole show. For about 90 minutes I stood there with my mouth open... no girlfriend stuff. Yeah!

  • A Mix of "Classical Music", and the more Modern "R&R",...Interesting, and Noteworthy!

    NDL

  • The intresting thing about this piece is if you look at what Roy Wood did after leaving ELO, this is actually closer to his vision of the band than Lynne's

  • Thanks for posting!!!

  • does the music make you feel good? Are you happy listening to it? That is what music is all about. Nothing more or less.

  • @GalanSilverFox no. get your facts right dude, music is art.

  • i've always liked how this song starts out slow and builds until they kick the door right the fuck in!! Jeff Lynne owns - period dot end of press conference thanks for coming

  • see em in concert will rock your world

  • poop yay

  • I bet when Chuck Berry heard this version he had a big ass smile on his face.

  • @smokiebird06 NO HE SUED THEY ASS

  • I wonder if the artists in the strings section liked recording the 45 seconds or so starting at 3:09 as much as I've liked listening to it over the years?

I was driving from California back to the east Coast years ago. I hit Indianapolis at about 2 in the morning, and this song came on the radio. I got up to about 90 mph - in an OPEL! - without even noticing! What a great tune.

  • Legs...legs...legs...this cover has LEGS!

Jeff Lynne is one of the most under-appreciated rockers ever

  • Beethoven would've probably liked this!

    If his hearing wasn't shot.

  • ich wusste immer schon, beethoven war ein rocker >;)

  • woot 600th like. and this shit is awsome!!!

  • I love it!! Thanks for posting!

  • HOW THE FUCK IS ELO NOT IN THE R AND R HALL OF FAME???????

  • @smokiebird06

If the group formed in 1970, they would've been eligible in the R&RHOF since 1995.

  • @smokiebird06 Same way Chicago isn't I suppose

  • @smokiebird06 Because they have to put bands like devo in there with their one song. They were suppossedly "progressive". And this isn't? Would there be a trans siberian orchastra without E.L.O?Who makes the decisions needs help. (you tube user's mom)

  • off the very first LP i ever bought! in 1976. richard tandy awakened me to synths! and i"ve never looked back.....great cover...the best!

  • This is superb. This is the most incredible sounds of the time, now and a long time to come ...SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!!!!.

    LMFAO nightprowlerful!!!

  • 9 bastards now! They're in a dark room somewhere breeding!

  • this version is good but i kinda like the beatles one a bit better

    this stilll sounds awesome too

  • rocking the shit out of this classic!!!!!

  • Just beautiful!

  • Hearing this song at an outdoor concert with a massive hot air balloon slowly turning above the crowd was one of the highlights of my musical life...

  • Comment removed

  • this song implies that chuck berry is the new "classical" music, no offense i love all music, but who could dislike this?

  • the greatest

  • Take one of the greatest composers who ever lived, add one of the greatest musical groups that ever performed, and what do you get? A FREAKIN' AWESOME SONG! ELO 4EVAH!

  • @rjf3tj ....fail....arent you forgetting sb? o.O

  • this is just tooooooooooooo good, love it

    ---

This is more than Rock of the 70's, it's a Mix of Rock and Classical (It is not the Original of Chuck Barry).

It's something very different...And very good!

    NDL

"Somos libres, seámoslo siempre, seámoslo siempre..."

  • @ninodelobos tenes razon pero todo lo de la elo es muy bueno

  • @oskareldorado

Vemos la ELO en una luz similar. Yo las respecto, a causa del mixto de la musica clasical y moderna. Esta es algo especial!

    Son juntos: ELO es especial!

    ...And for you Unilingualists:

The Mix of Classical and Modern Music by ELO is something which is very different than anything else out there.

    NDL

  • Responder a este vídeo... tenes razon pero todo lo que tiene la elo es muy buenosal2 desde argentina

  • @rsanabria4 si es una de mi s bandas preferidas unos genios sal2 desde argentina

  • My all time favorite Rock and Roll song...this version. Congrats to ELO for the hard work spent creating this version. Thanks for posting this...Hope lots of youngsters find this one! And oldsters too...LOL

  • poor Beethoven, was born two centuries ahead

  • I love this!

  • how many people see a soft playing orchestra and all of a sudden beethoven pulls a guitar out of his pants

  • Want this as the outro for my funeral! Seriously. I might be dead but the audience isn't - and why not give'm a footstepping reminder of the raw power of life via a couple of musical geniuses?

  • If this never existed, i dont think music would exist at all in the 21st century........

  • @TotallyRadicoolDude music DOESN'T exist in the 21st century..

  • have this album and reason it is best cause chuck berry played on the studio recording, saw somewhere when this was new elo and chuck playing together it was awsome! he was doing his strutt and as older fellow was still great none better.

  • I listened to this so many times. But doing a Jazzercise routine to it can give you a heart attack!

  • Run Run Rudolph?

  • JUST A GREAT SONG...................PERIOD.

  • IMO, one of the greatest songs ever "covered!" ELO took strings and rocked!

  • very " full " song with 1.05 minuts intro!!!

  • Beethoven was the rock god of his time....

  • Was a senior in high school when this came out;quite ironic that Walter Murphy's disco staple "Fifth of Beethoven"--which had a similar intro (ie,Beethoven's 5th symphony)--was released just a couple years after this,as memory serves me right.

  • this is a great version, but mountain crushes all comers with their version.

  • Which 5 bastards dislike this???!!! NO taste in music!

  • @Simo2009BORO its that damn Beiber kid...

  • @Simo2009BORO Beethoven rolled over on their pet monkey.

  • @GooglFascists He must have =P no one could possibly dislike music of this kind.

  • @Simo2009BORO aint that a fact they probably follom man united as well,no taste

  • @Simo2009BORO........ I think they were retarded and couldnt read or deaf and dumb, didnt know what the link was.

  • Beethoven would've played this kind of music if he had electricity!

  • FUCKING KICK-ASS!!!

  • An awesome sound...Still have this on vinyl!

  • I saw them perform this in May of 1974. I was 14 years old, my first cocert ever, an all day show called the Springtime Rock Jubilee. They rocked!

  • never heard this version before, bloody wicked!

  • Love it, love it, love it!!! How can 5 people not like this?

  • GREAT!! Even at today's ROCK standards? Don't you think?

  • In high school, I played the intro for the orchestra instructor / band instructor... We ended up doing the spring music concert with band, orchestra, a hippie guitar junior, with bass, drums and choir.. Somewhere on old reel to reel video... And the next year a early huge MOOG Synthysizer with Tim Hayden (now a Nashville keyboard hired gun) we did Rick Wakeman's "Journey to the Center of the Earth".. Hip music for a public school...

  • Beethoven could beat that! He was deaf for years....Bend over Beethoven!!!!

  • i thought i'd gone deaf for 28 seconds... jeeeezus, phew....

  • Your all wrong. Its not 5 people got rolled on, 5 people don't know good music, 5 people thought it was dis i like. WRONG! 5 People are just stupid fags that don't know anything about good music. Nuff' said.

  • Sort of thing I would expect from Family Guy lol

  • boy this brings back memories...a great drag race song!!

  • Beethoven, Mozart and those dudes invented music ?????

  • 1 of there best tunes thnxs for posting

  • 6 people got rolled on

  • of all the people/groups that have covered this song, ELO's cover is by far the best.

  • @david1leigh The Beatles are a very close second

  • @david1leigh deffers - so much more... well... more!

  • @david1leigh I agree with you, but I enjoy the original the most.

  • @david1leigh That's because ELO is The best... after Queen, but they never made Beethoven remix, so we'd never know

  • @david1leigh I fully agree, however I could not find this version of the recording. As a kid I had the 8-track which was this long version. The cassette and album were the shorter one. I have not seen a cd yet, so that may be the one. Does anyone know?

  • Thanx for the full album version, happydude. You KNOW what we like! ELO hit #42 in Billboard, 7-28-73. God less ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • If ELO isn't voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I will blow it up. And that's that!!

  • Somewhere Beethoven is smiling....

  • @cackm which is very rare for Ludwig!

  • every one of their songs are good, most are great!!

  • There's a computer in the lunchroom at work with speakers. I play this song, and then leave the page up. Hopefully someone else listens to it.

  • How about Do You Do You Want My Love form ELOs , A New World Record.

  • Lets hear that ONE M0:00RE TIME!

  • The best part is 0:00 to 8:24

  • @beatleforce1 Amen, right?

  • @DaveWollenberg Yep!

  • Oh my gosh! Still to this day, 'Unbelievable!'

  • This is the best version absolutely!!!

  • BEST VERSION OF THIS EVER RECORDED!

  • Soooo goood! Rockin classic's.

  • kuyama good too

  • Why do all Chuck Berry's songs start the same?

  • @Degoxen Because he's cool enough for no-one to care.

  • @Degoxen Trade mark!

  • @Degoxen Trade mark! Let's you know what's gonna happen...Rock and Roll!

  • Beetoven's 5th symphony, ... ELO's best (cover) ever!

  • Ich liebe E.L.O 's Musik

  • you should put xanadu on youtube

  • what's the name of Beethoven's symphony at the beginning?

  • Symphony No. 5 in C minor

  • ELO =] awesome :)

  • I once completed a half hour commute during this song.

  • @mandrakemalloy : makes ya wanna mash the accelerator, huh?!

  • What happen to all the good music in this world, its shadowed by disgusting teen idols and bad tunes. if todays youth actally listened to musical masterpieces like this MAYBE, just MAYBE we wont be hearing so much trash on the radio

  • time to break out the old platform shoes

  • Has anyone noticed that this song has the EXACT same melody as "Run Run Rudolph?". I didn't realize that until just now.

  • last night at 1:00pm, i turned the volume on 10, when the radio played that song ,i was in my truck....i was out of speed limit...

  • bev bevan on drums brilliant

  • I was listening to this since I was like 4 years old. IN MY BLOOD!!! Mom and Dad turned me onto some good tunes, aye.

  • Damn, now this is real music.

  • this just blew my mind. I've been listening to the shorter version all my life. This, this is what my life has been missing

  • Do NOT drive, when you hear this song !!!

  • @Alland44 No, please don't. Nearly wrecked just last week when the Oldies station played a shorter version.

  • I can't help but speed when I hear this song in my car! LOL :-D

  • voted as best version by 4 out of 5 Beethovens.

  • @Rawego the 5th Beethoven turned out to be Chuck Berry in disguise. sad Chuck... very sad.

  • Amazingly I never heard or knew of this version till I saw a discussion on edited versions of songs in Radio.infoboards

    Wow this is great

  • I have this (long) version on vinyl and if you hadn't uploaded it I would have done it.

  • i agree, best version ever. in 1973 most radio stations played the short version. living in bklyn, n.y. i had wplj fm. they played long versions on most songs. They also played other songs from the albums. Like 77 wabc i called the baby station. they would cut off last 30 seconds of songs so they can talk. loved that station untill i found fm.

  • @1969joeyd Don't forget WNEW 102.7..First FM rock station..I lived in Bklyn, NY all my live, born in 59. So remember all those old AM stations..WABC, WMCA, WWDJ (battle of the bands) & for soul music there was WWRL.. SO lucky to have grown up in the BEST times for music..was the soundtrack of my life. Finally got the hell out of there living in TX now, nice & peaceful..Take Care & keep Rockin'

  • @Billybike1 hey BILL, WWDJ. i forgot about that one. I still listen to wabc. talk radio now. when i was a kid i loved wabc. i remember x-mas eve, going to my granfathers house. my parents and my brother would listen to abc in the car. they had the top 100 songs of the year countdown. one year I think i love you was #1 and knock 3 times was #2. anyway, found fm music. at the time i could only get fm on my sterio in my room. i hated dan ingrum, bruce morrow, harry harrison.they talked 2much rockon

  • @1969joeyd "cousin " Brucie was notorious for that, especially when he moved to WCBS FM with his big mouth. Dan Ingram was funny as hell he has some sense of humor. Remember Ron Lundy also. I never went anywhere without some form of music. I remember the countdowns also, CBS does Every year & Q-104 for harder rock. K- rock was cool till they went grunge. I also won hundreds of tickets to concerts, I had this speed dial phone & had it down to a science, using other ppls name also. Had alot or fun

  • Right after I graduated high school I got into a chase with some park security cops. They were about to form a road block. I was debating whether to stop and the Chuck Berry intro to the song kicked in and I hit the gas pedal. One vehicle pursued me, an International Jeep, but I managed to out run him in my piece of shit Ford Capri......Anyway this song rocks and there's something about Chucks guitar riffs that get me going.............Can't believe I made it to 50 years old.

  • Beethoven is rockin in his grave.

  • This song reminds me of childhood XD But only because I watched Beethoven so many times as a kid :P Which ya know, is unfortunate, but evs

  • wooooooooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hehe :P i like stuff.... but i like songs too!!!! and this song is great!!!

  • did anyone else picture a sooth playing orchestra then beethoven randomly pulls a guitar outta his jacket and blow everyones mind?

  • @NewbiusMaximus i can totally see him taking a gibson outta his jacket and turning into a rock god!

  • @NewbiusMaximus I picture Bill and Ted.

  • @MrMIMISEKU : What an "Excellent" Adventure!!!

  • @NewbiusMaximus Well, they are the Electric Light ORCHESTRA.
