  • "and the reason i picked up the 857 was..." Why to more and more videos on youtube have hams saying or typing in the title 897D and then showing a 857. Or showing a 857 and calling it a 897D? Madness.

  • What tipe of capacitor are you using to match impedance to 50 hom// thanks great video I like home made antennas

  • @zx636racer I was going to use an air variable cap. For me, it's probably close enough the way it is that I can get by without it. Even though the radials are laying on ground, they need to be trimmed and that will bring the SWR down a lot lower.

  • can u get 2 meters on that midle thing. and what is it called

  • it's a 897 not a 857..

  • @n8mrc

OOPS! Well it goes without saying I made a slight error. The rig is in fact an FT-897D.

  • @barrygkx Where did you got Wire connector from Battery to Radio? Could you please tell me website, where did you got it? And all Batteries that are 12V will work? Thanks

  • Barry, thanks for the demo on the Ft-897D. I thinking of purchasing this radio. Great video

  • Nice info. Thanks for sharing

  • Hello Barry

The dimension of the base section of the antenna 22 inches, does this fit a formula or was it a length you experimeted with. I would like to build my own, I have ordered the 9 foor whip from Buddipole. So is 22 inches the ideal length or can I make it longer?

    Great video thanks

  • I think I may have spoken with you before. Anyway, very nice setup regardless, FT-897D is very nice also!

  • Nice construction on that antenna. For portable work this summer I opted for a homebrew magnetic loop made from some very lightweight and quite stiff low-loss coax with a copper foil sleeve, seems to work pretty well from 40 through 10 and coils up nicely for easy transportation but I'm pretty sure your vertical would have a distinct edge on 40 and 30. Very impressive job on that loading coil.

  • ...I meant to add: I'd probably switch a series cap in and out to resonate it on the higher bands (10 and 6). just a thought.

  • Why the RF coil?

  • Great, thanks! Jimmy, ARRL TS, WX9DX

  • what the size of the coil. and the ant size. I like to make one.

  • Nice video! What parts did you say you used? How much about was it?

  • wow good antenna :D can you send me a schematic plane for make it?? email me: iz0rmh@live.it

    tnx 73

  • Just doing my foundation, can i ask why there seems to be no standard on phonetics used? i.e kilo Whiskey , was in this video kilo watt and uniform in the UK is united in this??

  • @MAJESTIC10110 Hi there Majestic, the Americans have different phonetics than the UK. A lot are the same but there are differences...you've just found one..hi hi. The Europeans tend to use the same as UK. Good Luck 73 de Andy.

  • @m0bah As far I know actually everyone in the western world should use the ITU/NATO/ICAO spelling alphabet when it comes to HAM right? Even our french friends use it :)

    See: ICAO_spelling_alphabet on wikipedia

  • What is that designed projection??
