  • We used that stuff. Such a strange substance!

  • my mom used to use Dippity Doo in the 60s early 70s,my sister and i loved playing with it in the jar,it was kindof like that slime that kids play with today,,i also loved the name and smell!

  • I remember it had a distinctive smell. Pleasant but unlike anything else I can think of.

  • David Parody brought me here xD

  • Aw she looked so normal before she started messing with her hair lol.

  • the reason it's being sold in Canada and not in the Us is because now we have spritz

  • I posted a few days ago that here in Canada "Dippity-Do" is sold at stores/pharmacies..I buy a bottle of it every month..it is as popular here as all of the other hair gels/ stying products...Is it not sold in the United States at all? and if not I wonder why?

  • I use Dippity Do..works well..

  • I can remember the smell of that stuff..

  • @unabashed00 After watching the commercial, I too had olfactory recall. Loved the smell.

  • remember every saturday morning was a shampoo with prell shampoo or breck and a nice roller set with dippity do and spending the day in rollers.

  • Lol, my aunt still has a sveral containers of that stuff :P

  • Still wanna buy a wig. Yes!

  • They stopped making this stuff not too long ago. Too bad. It did hold hair well.

  • @MiGrm9 here in Canada Dippity Do can be purchased all over..I buy it all the time..

  • @rhymeandreasoning WOW, I wonder if they would ship to the US?

  • Just a dab will do ya.

  • nobody would take the time to set there hair today.I dont even know anyone who would even know where to start.Thank God for the flat iron, blow dryer, and curling iron.becase we had none of those things back then, or they were just about to be avalible on the consumer market at that time.

  • Hm, "Holds Short Hair"......I need to buy some of this.

  • Whooptie Doo is Dippity Doo!!!

  • What a curious smell it had. Remember?

  • @rasputin63, I remember well. I used to enjoy sniffing my sister's Dippity-Do.

Whoa --- perhaps I should rephrase that??? lol.

  • @chrisman737 Haha! That;s okay..I loved the smell of my dad's Old Spice and even wore it until someone told me I smelled like a guy (this was grade 6)

  • My aunt used to put that stuff in my hair! Both her and my Mom screwed up my hair, It was curly, Mom would take me to beauty shops to get it straightened, they would use lye ralaxers and my scalp would get blisters in it. My hair follicles got so bad my hair was like a corkscrew. I'm 46 now and FINALLY my hair is getting softer and less curly. Hey at one time they screwed my hair up so bad, using those lye relaxers people used on black hair my hair was almost falling out.

  • @Sheri451 And to think people (including myself) risk burning themselves with curling irons or perm solution for curly hair!

  • HA! "Holds Short Hair." So odd.

  • Man, how did people live before mousse came along in '83?

  • @scottbaino Mousse weights down fine hair and isn't for everyone. Dippity Do type hair setting "gels" are still on the market today and work well for most hair types.

  • @jsbach15 Depends on the hair. Mine is thick, so mousse works better for me.

  • Now everything that has to do with hair has avacado, shea, and a buncha other junk. They barely put much in it anyway. It doesn't make a difference!

  • @ramsterification Avacado and shea aren't junk .... they're very good for hair and skin. It all depends what brands you're talking about and how far into the ingredient list they are. Natural hair products tend to be better for this than others who are just jumping on the "natural" bandwagon. When you see the "good stuff" listed down with the preservatives and fragrances, you know they're just putting it in as a gimmick.

  • Why were the 70's so reddish brown?

  • @mistrimeat Because the film is deteriorating? DUH!

  • @jsbach15 Thanks, Captain Obvious.

Tip: Google the word "sarcasm", and do a book report on it. Then come back and read my reply.

    Then light yourself on fire.

  • not another wig!

  • My sister used it. I remember looking at it and wanting to eat it.

  • NJ accents HAHAHAHA

  • Old Johnny Carson "Carnac" line: "Dippity-Do" . . . "What do you get on your dippity in the morning?" (I know, it's a dumb joke. I just can't hear of Dippity Do without hearing it in my head.)

  • Popular with servicemen to keep their too-long hair pasted down - I ought to know

  • so she's tried 'spray-ons and pour-ons'. What about strap-ons?

  • Not sure, but it now may go by the name "Astro-Glide."

  • I squeeze my own dippity doo!

  • NOT ANOTHER WIG!!!

  • cool i want dippity do lol

  • They still sell a lot of this stuff. It comes in a squeeze bottle now.

  • @Loraguy where do you buy it?

  • @litasweeta You can find it in any drug store or supermarket... in Canada.

  • "Your hair looks great!"

    "I know!"

  • It's good on toast.

  • they sell stuff like that next to the hair relaxers O.o

  • David Parody.

    X)

  • my grandmother used this stuff!

  • and it works for wallpaper paste, too!

  • lmfao

  • LOL!! I used to know every line by heart & when the commercial came on, I followed along, talking with them, accent and all. Those were the days!!

  • Dippity- Do looked like Jello.

  • Yea, Brylcream was a little dab will do ya and I believe it was Joe Namath that was in the commercial. Also this dippity doo of which I remember also is just the beginning of hair styling gel.

  • Wasn't ' A little dab will do ya' from Brylcream? Gives you the 'brylcream...bounce!"...I think..

  • Do NOT mistake Dippity Do for Vaseline or personal lubricant, or it will turn your bush into an afro.

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!

  • @alexgreybell OMG FUNNY!

  • haha, she threw the wig right in her face.. she was pissed

  • I think my grandmother STILL uses this stuff or somehting like it. I will always remember her in her nightgown in front of her dresser mirror using this stuff & curling her hair in bobby pins.

  • wow her hair looked better b4 the dippity do

  • My sister always used Dippity Do and her room always smelled of the stuff.

  • Was it a bad smell or good smell?

  • Well, I have to say the smell was good in small quantities, but not so good in large quantities. But what I really liked was looking at the Dippity Do jar, since the stuff inside looked so exotic, like some alien slime or something. Plus you could hold it up to the light and it would kind of look cool.

  • or she could just grow her hair?

  • Those Madison Avenue types were geniuses.

  • do they still make that goop?

  • They still make stuff like it. I don't think I've seen Dippity Doo in a long time.

  • They still make Dippity-Do but they gave it a modern makeover. It is now marketed as a guy's product to keep his 'do sweat-proof.

  • That woman smacked her friend in the face with that wig at the end.

  • i remember tis back in the 60s

  • I remember women using this stuff and leaving a brown spot in the inside roof of the car from where their hair touched it. LOL

  • @Manongjojo You might be thinking of a different "greasy" hair product. Dippity Do, was a hair setting "gel" not unlike hair products today. It NEVER was greasy, and it didn't stain anything!

  • @Manongjojo Woah! Really? Eww! I guess that's what those lace doilies on the back of chairs are for...

  • i remember the jingle...but i can't sing :(

  • Dippity-Do was nothing but sweet-smelling grease! My hair looked like I'd put Crisco on it.

  • I am going to be 45 next month. I was a very small girl when this came out. It was a very popular styling gel. Later on there was a dippity doo jingle.

  • This looks more like a late 50's or early 60's commercial to me.

  • Dippity Don't....

Thanks for the posting.....Good to see the old stuff.

  • My sister used dippity do back in the 1970s. For some reason, I always liked looking at the jar and also smelling it.

  • Holds short hairs.

  • looks like super 8 film.....cool!!!!!

  • I used dippity-do to style my mullet back in the 80's

  • It was the only thing that held my Rockabilly "Victory Curls" hair style.

Now I'm fighting through the fog of age induced dementia trying to remember if I rocked that style before or after I was "Punk" (For which I used Elmer's white glue to hold my 'Hawk.).

God, it's sad to look back and realize that I've always been tragically uncool.

  • I hated Dippity-Do! Soon as the mousse came out, I was using that. Now I use LA Looks.

  • Nice scarf!

  • Dippity Do does not have enough hold. I use LA Looks if I want something decent, and that stuff is expensive!

  • I used Dippity Do in the 60s. They call it "hair gel" now.....LOL

  • This was toxic gel, God help people that used this crud!

  • Oh yeah my sister used that all the time. I wouldn't go near it. My hair was as straight as a stick!

  • You can still buy Dippity Do at the store..you have to look for it though..I have seen it at Dollar General and Family Dollar stores..

  • I love a girl in rollers

  • 1972/73. This was when I was 15. and I used to keep hair care products up in my bedroom closet, such as Tame Creme Rinse and VO5 Styling Gel. My grandmother, God rest her soul, also had Dippity-Do, and I even tried it, and it made my hair too stiff.

But just recently, I received a catalog in the mail from some company up in Vermont that was selling this stuff. They now charge you $13 for two jars of Dippity-Do.

  • I use Dippity-Do! Wonderful curl enhancer!

  • I remember this Dippity-Do commercial and I really enjoy this commercial. By the way, Dippity-Do also came in pink too (which is regular) at the time this commercial was aired. The green Dippity-Do is the formula that gives your hair extra hold. Thanks for posting this great commercial.

  • My mom used that stuff in the '60's and early '70's when she set her hair. It used to come in pink, too, I believe. It looked pretty slimy! LOL
