  • grosoooooo este es un capo enserio un verdadero talento

  • is there any tabs for this and if not could someone possibly do them

  • @khjh94 The Tabs for this and all the other tunes taught come as a pdf when you purchase the video. You can get it from Video Progressions or me. PM me for details.

  • its hyde from that 70's show

  • very nice

  • For anyone interested, my recorded work is available at CD Baby, iTunes, or my own site. (liondogmusic "dot" com)

  • Rick looks like my HS science teacher,Mr Balino

  • why do you never tell us, what scale yu playing ??? the guitar is awesome though thx !! please explain a little about the key and what scales and positions you in ..... thx !!! look forward to it !!

  • @FunkyMrB You get all that info when you purchase the man's instructional video. Seems reasonable to me.

  • Guys - I have an acoutistc. I am a total beginner - but I think I have a fairly natural ability to play. I just dunno how to learn. Chords - look em all up? Scales? Playing up the neck of the guitar? Is that like how it works on the violin? I can strum and pluck fairly basic but instinctively - sure these techniques expand gradually .. Basic question - what's the direction to take?

  • this rusky guy is awesome!

wondrous work dude, you add value to the playing of thi instrument!

    honestly,

    Andre

  • Rick Ruskin is one of the best acoustic players ever.. Amazing

  • Your a terrific player!!! I know I've heard your name around Marin County, Ca. I think you play in Marin County Calf.

    Cool videos!

  • is it me or do his strings look uber loose

  • Extra light gauge strings with low action.

  • fucking rad:D

  • awesome!

  • Third string 1/2 note, second string full...weave those chirps, render to extents beyond, beyond mere expression...the ecstatic descends to thy soul's pleasure. RICK RUSKIN!

  • whats the first song called? xx

  • "Georgia On My Mind"

  • I'm going to give you a pass because you're not from the U.S.

  • Thanks very much...ear and eye opening.Your a great player!

  • The finger style you use, is very difficult for me (if not impossible). I have always used a pick. Do you think, and be real, it is possible for a pick man, to learn your style? I still have my 58 Strat, and also a Jazzmaster. But last year ran across a 51 Martin, WELL PLAYED, and TRYING acoustic. Are there any exercises to train the fingers? It is so hard!!! Yeah you make it look easy. Is there anyway to use a thin pick?

  • haha!fortunately ive never had such a problem :P..thats cuz the first two songs i learnt were metallica -nothing else matters and behind blue eyes !both fingerstyle songs...well..just learn a few easier ones n then ull get the nack of it...and voila ur fingers will automatically come in to place withe the right string!!TRUST ME!learn a few easier songs n u can jump right in with the tuff ones!

  • Of course it is. I was a big S&G fan and almost all their stuff was seriously fingerpicked. Repetition, concentration and dilligence and eventually I was playing stuff like The Boxer pretty well. Guys to check out are Tommy Emmanuel (a former electric player) and Steve Howe. Both play hybrid, pick and fingerstyle. Approach it as a fun challenge and you'll get there. Like mangalsk8erboy says, start simple.

  • Older Martins did not have adjustable necks. Find a qualified Martin technician (or someone you KNOW is good with acoustic) The neck may need to be reset. Once the action is correct it will be much easier to play. Try medium strings after you're comfortable. They will strengthen your fingers. Switch off for some lights (.012- .053) before you play out. Bad action makes it very hard to play, but a good tech will be able to set it up so it's almost as easy as your electric.

  • Thats a beautiful tone ,very even.

    Peter.

  • loving that left hand... wonderful

  • some really smooth chord progressions there, respect i`ve been playin for 16yrs now and just bought myself a taylor 514 gettin old and goin all acoustic, at present recording an acoustic album sort of john martyn meets pink floyd crossed with stone roses and a twist of ethnicness with also some dark king krimson style weirdness. will post some up soon, much respect. fellow guitarist.

  • Im retired and just getting back to the guitar after 10 years.....the whole right hand thing is so hard for me and I can never seem to be sure which string Im going to strike, whether its thumb or fingers....Ive oracticed lots but still have issues with it...anyone help me?

  • well, you would normally hit the EAD strings with your tumb, and the strings GBe with the first finger, middle and ring ones in order (one for each string), but it's not a 'must be'.

anything I can help you, just ask

  • Hi Rick

    incredible playing!

I have the oportunity to buy a "similar" guitar as yours.

    A 1925 Stahl (similar to a Maurer 551)

Is very expensive, but I love his sound

Do you recommend her to your me?

    Regards

  • Sure. If you like it and can afford it - why not?

  • Great dont get me wrong, good technique and everything, but scott tennant would whoop him.

  • Scott Tennant is a very excellent player but, I think, he would be the first to say that this isn't a horse race.

    It's about the music.

  • What's the name of the first song you're playing?

  • Georgia On My Mind

  • So good sir !

  • got ricks video pretty damn good

  • I'm sorry but fingerstyle is the best style of guitar there is,I'm glad I play it

  • I'm not a guitar player so I wouldn't know. How many 'styles' are there? (I've heard of piano style playing though)

  • incredible playing!

  • Can you tell me what gauge of strings you are using?

  • Extra Light. Diameters from 1st - 6th strings are .010/.014/.022/.030/.036/.048. A guitar needs to be set up specifically for this light a set.

  • Thanks Rick! Is that an old Washburn you are playing?

Can you recommend a similar guitar I could purchase with great tone like that?

  • It's a circa 1907 Wm. C. Stahl made by the Larson Bros. No Washburn comes close to it.

  • Man you're going to have my fingers bleeding over here! I'm cursed with the whole blues thing of playing the heaviest set of strings you can get your hands on thanks to ol' Stevie, but I am impressed. Just graduated from Musicians Institute, never heard anyone make that light of strings on an acoustic sound so full and warm. Very very skilled human being.

  • Hey I mean playing with the thumb .. sorry for the mistake

  • ummm, sometimes it's very useful..

check out chris proctors guitar workshop on youtube, there's a 4 part one, which was live...

  • if he's stuck strumming, why are you having him as your teacher..?

  • There are still some VHS copies of this video available from the artist.

  • disposablexhero, it sounds like "Georgia on my mind".

  • Awesome clean playing. Whats the first song in this video?

  • wow

  • Great Video!

  • Haven't seen a better player on the web.

  • Terrific! Nice sound, love those angle shots!
