No pot involved. There are series of switches on the back of the dialer. These were used originally to determine the number dialled by the number of pulses from the switch as it rotates. 3 switches in total to determine when the dialer is either registering a number or returning to resting position.
Thats such a retro and innovative idea, I like the idea of having to enter the combo to turn the alarm off!

Brilliant! I realy like this ! How have you taken control of the rotary dialer ? Are you using a potentiometer ?
