The added books were added by Catholics. The books weren't divinely inspired which is why they are only in Catholic bibles. You might want to look that up.
We can all agree that punishment from God as described in the Bible was not pretty.. God's wrath is brutal.. But if we want to blame God for those things then we are basically admitting that God exist and did all that. Anyway, i wanna say that i do respect you criticizing the Bible because thats ur right and as long as ur critique is based on the text and u are sincere then i fully respect that.
@OneBibleOneGod I can't see any evidence to say the Christian God exists, but I can argue about God's imagined character in the Bible because it all comes down to a very human discussion on 'values'. If someone reads the Bible and claims God did genocides etc "for a good reason", in my opinion, they need to seriously consider whether they are even a decent person or not. Do decent people worship the perpetrators of genocide? I mean, really?
I also recommend Armstrong's "A History of God", in which she dwells on the origins of Yahwe as the Jewish warrior god (who outcompeted all the other Jewish gods). Yes, Jews were polytheists too, and they opted to keep their warrior god.
i made a vid response to this as well, where i pointed oit that isaiah 13 contains the same story as prophecy and directly acredits yahweh for the actions the medes carry out.
Have you ever read the Bible taking into consideration that "Yahweh", which is tranlsated as capital "LORD" over 4 thousand times in the Bible, is different from Elohim?
Yah, I am kinda wondering if there are two gods in the Bible. Yahweh and Eloh were two different gods in Babylon I think. It was either Babylon or Sumeria. That is just something that I am curious about.
@qwertyfshag You would not be the first the make that observation, Q. Look up Marcion of Sinope.
Another conclusion is, God was not the ultimate author in some/all of the books. Rather it was the works of human beings of the day, inventing religious dogma according to contemporary expediency.
@qwertyfshag ive never really considered that nor have i purused the bible with that idead, i will try my bet to read it although i highly doubt there is two gods (discounting jesus and his father). it seems a bt ludicris but all religions have that effect on me lol
So... What would you do in this situation? These people are a threat to you. Do you kill the provider of the family (i.e. the man), and then let the women and the children struggle with threats of starvation growing up? And then, supposing they survive, their mothers will teach her children that the reason for this hardship is that the Israelites killed his father and come back later with vengeance. Maybe instead they should be put into slavery? It's not all as simple as you might think.
@blu2penguin That depends on your moral theory. What specifically makes genocide wrong in the first place as opposed to killing men who are a potential threat? If you cannot answer that question, then you've already failed.
Or, being all powerful I cooouuulllld...make it impossible for them to harm my people in any way, shape or form. Problem solved, yes...it really IS that simple. And what of the animals he spared?! God was angry about THAT too! And the king he spared (A king without a kingdom is just one man-also he had no allies so don't bring that up)
@MrOmniblast Maybe the king had gods kryptonite? An iron chariot, making him immune to gods powers.... Maybe god needed the lone king slain so that god would be safe?
Omfg you're psycho -_- "Evil" people? Are you retarded? No people are "Evil", period. Culture changes, I'm sorry but wouldn't promising someone land...which ALREADY has people living on it, and then having them KILL those people to get the land be evil?? Secondly, if a person without arms and legs "Threatens" you, are you going to kill them? I just said he could simply make it impossible...IMPOSSIBLE for them to harm the Hebrews in any waaaaay so there IS no threat. Psycho!
LOL. 1) People=Plural. I didn't say no person was, I mean that an entire population of people could not, statistically be "Evil", period. Secondly...I thought god wasn't a "person".
"I mean an entire population of people could not, statistically be "Evil"
That means that MOST people in a given population would not meet the criteria of "Evil"-warranting their deaths. Statistically?-Consider this, MOST people are not in prison for some heinous act, acts we consider "Evil", you know..,the kind of thing that some states hand out death penalties for?
@owchywawa Or maybe yahweh could have softened their hearts? I am curious as to why he is totally happy to harden the hearts of his enemies yet when he could equally easily soften them he choses killing instead? Hardening a heart is ok, but somehow softening negates free will. This seems to be special pleading.
Not special pleading on your part necessarily...I dont know your position on this.
@GallusSapien I don't think God actually hardened Pharaoh's heart as a direct causal action. I would look at it more like the Pharaoh hardened his heart because of God. It would be kind of like saying someone made you angry. That's not to say someone magically came into your mind and changed your thoughts such that you were angry. You choose to be angry because of an action someone preformed.
You forgot to mention that Shmuel HaNavi / Samuel the Prophet beheaded Agag the King when Saul failed to do so.
Additionally, Agag's pregnant wife made an escape, which later resulted in Haman Y'S (may his name be blotted out) who attempted to eradicate the people of Israel.
Amalek was pure evil, it was not genocide, as it was not a mass-killing based on ethnicity, but rather a war and an extermination of a wholly wicked people.
@smartwarlord So the animals were wicked as well were they? Also I am sure all those infants must have done quite a lot as well during their brief lives.
Who would look forward to spending eternity grovelling before the monster described in the Old Testament? Eternity is plenty of time for him to change his mind and turn on you.

@MrJdom24: Catholics decided the original Bible. In fact, if it weren't for Catholics, there wouldn't be a Bible in the first place.

Numbers 31:18 "But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves."
In this case the females are judged to be worthy of life/death based on whether or not they are a young virgin.

I like your way of reasoning! You look like a lumberjack in this video.
Catholics have 73 books. They have 3 gods in one
Protestants have 66 books. They one god in 3
Islam has 1 book and 1 God and 0 genocides.
All this math is giving me a headache. peace out.
