  • yes, you´re right the Gen-x looks like shit on a stick Do you know where can i buy a FC3 console new on the net? thanks for advice me on the Gen-x

  • Search eBay. There are a lot of FC3 Pluses there. If you need any information on the FC3 Plus, send me a PM, all right?

  • oh! thanks. One last question please. I have a NES clone console veeeery old with a cartridge of 56 games and i would like to know if it is possible to play my 56 games cartridge on the Gen-x

  • First, I'd need pictures or a video of your clone and its cartridge. Then I'll be able to tell you if it'll work on the Gen-X or if something needs to be done to get it working.

  • it is not a japanese nes cartridge so if that 56 game cartridge works on an european standar nes console i suppose it will work on the Gen-x, but i never tried to play that cartridge on an european or american standar nes. Do you know if nes clone games are compatible on standar NES consoles?

  • I don't have any US/European-style x-in-1 cartridges, just Japanese ones. The US/Europeans ones will work with nothing extra, but the Japanese ones need a pin converter.

  • Hello Ace, Do you know when, which year was this console built? is it a new console made for nostalgic genesis and nes people or is it as old as the original Genesis??

  • The Gen-X was released in late 2007.

  • would you buy the Gen-X if you were me?

  • If you're a purist and can't solder, absolutely not. The NES side suffers from the typical Famiclone "backwards sound pitch" problem, which will make games sound weird, and it doesn't work with Castlevania III, Rad Racer II, After Burner and a few other games. The Genesis side plays well, but sounds like shit and suffers from lag between controller inputs on certain games. If you can solder and don't mind the difference, go for it. I mention the ability to solder because you CAN improve...

  • ...the sound on the Genesis side by building a brand new sound circuit. While I have a GN Twin to apply the circuit to, it will work the same way on the Gen-X, since their Genesis hardware is identical. Plus, you can solder an extra controller port or two to use original Genesis controllers and wire up a controller adapter to use NES controllers on the Gen-X.

  • Hello, Do you have one of these Megadrive/Genesis games, Joe Montana 2, Strider, 688 attack submarine, Michael Jackson´s Moonwalker, Cyberball, Mystic Defender, Speedball, Fatal Fury, Super hang on, Alien Storm, NHLPA Hockey 93, Desert strike and Jungle strike?? if you have one of these games can you tell me if it works on your Gen-X? my Megadrive and NES are ruined and i want to buy a Gen-X and i would like to know if my Genesis and NES games will work on it

  • I only have Super Hang-On, but the thing is that my Gen-X is dead. I have a GN Twin to replace it, but it's essentially the same console with a worse NES side(heavily saturated video, low/muffled sound). The Genesis side is the same between the two consoles, though you'd be best getting a Gen-X.

Actually, if you're in a territory that uses the PAL video standard, you'll have a problem. These clones are made to function in NTSC, which means many PAL games will play oddly or not play at all.

  • MANY THANKS, i think i will buy the Gen-x but only because i have no other option, impossible to find a NES or a Megadrive in good conditions and cheap

  • Are you in a territory that runs in the PAL or NTSC video standard?

  • PAL in Europe

  • Yeesh, you're gonna have problems with PAL games. The Gen-X runs in NTSC, but I believe you CAN make it work in PAL. I don't know how, though.

  • ok i see...,and what can you tell me about this clone console, the FC3 NES? do you know something about this clone of a NES,MD and SNES?

  • While I haven't used an FC3 Plus personally, user accounts say it has some saturated video output(can be fixed by adjusting your TV's color correction), but improves GREATLY on the Genesis side's sound output. The only issue with the Genesis side is that it doesn't work with Virtua Racing, which, if you don't care about it, you'll be better off with the FC3 Plus. You get the most complete all-in-one console package. Except that this clone, too, is NTSC only.

  • As a word of note: most modern European TVs support the NTSC video signal, so while you'll be good with that, compatibility with PAL games is a bit of a problem.

  • imagine my tv supports the NTSC video signal, will you buy the Gen-X if you were me??

  • That depends. I can hardly support a MegaDrive that can't play Virtua Racing, and I'm a tech guy who modifies and repairs consoles. I'd get the Gen-X in that case, but assuming I'm not a tech guy and don't care about Virtua Racing or have some other means of playing the game(MegaDrive or MegaDrive II), then I'd get the FC3 Plus in a flash.

  • Allow me to explain: most PAL NES games will play too quickly and the music will be REALLY high-pitched. PAL MegaDrive games, on the other hand, have a much higher compatibility rate on NTSC consoles, whether it's a clone, a US Genesis, or a Japanese MegaDrive, but some PAL games are made specifically for the PAL video standard, so that will cause problems. Also, some MegaDrive games have a region code which the Gen-X's region switch can't defeat(it's only a US/JAP switch, not PAL/NTSC).

  • ...then on the other hand i wont be able to play with a zapper for nes so i dont know what the hell i'm gunna do...only if there was a system that played genesis and snes games with a genesis controller...

  • The FC3 is supposed to ship with a light gun along with the 2 stock controllers, so you will be able to play NES games requiring the Zapper.

  • thanx...i'm probly going to wait for the fc3...i called up video game central to see what controllers it comes with and the guy said he didnt know...i want the genesis controller so if the fc3 dosent come with genesis type controllers then i will get a gn twin and a retro duo so i can play snes games...

  • so which is better the gn twin or the gen x? and is the original genesis better than both of them? thanx

  • Here's my honest opinion:

I have to give a slight edge to the GN Twin for its slightly better NES compatibility and its Genesis audio that doesn't strain as much and for better Master System compatibility(Four-Mega carts like After Burner don't work on the Gen-X).

But I'd say unless you can hack a Genesis controller port onto the GN Twin or Gen-X and replace the shitty audio mixing circuit in the system by the used in the Genesis 3(am currently trying to do both), then get a GN Twin.

  • Actually, let me rephrase that: unless you perform the mods I mentioned, get a Model 1 Genesis with High Definition Graphics printed on the casing. If you can perform the mods, get a GN Twin(it's lousy as an NES, though, but it gets the job done nonetheless, just that it doesn't work that well).

  • I agree. The NES side is crap.

  • Death to inaccurate NOACs!!!! God damn it, this technology shouldn't even exist with the NOACs in Yobo-branded FC Twins and RetroDuo offering near-perfect(or perfect, depending on the game) audio and MUCH better compatibility(Nintendo's Tetris doesn't even work on the Gen-X! FOR GOD'S SAKE, WHY OUT OF ALL GAMES DOESN'T TETRIS WORK?!?!

  • More videos will follow with my other NES games and my entire Genesis collection
