Those Cape Fear HS buildings are largely unchanged, as well as the courtyards. The cement area at 0:46 is covered by a new wing for science classes added in 2003, perpendicular to the existing parallel hallways on that end of the building.
An additional wing was also added to the back of the building in the mid '90s that includes a band room, small auditorium, a few classrooms, and a smaller, secondary "practice" gym. The gym in the video still houses assemblies, pep rallies, and games.
The Marketplace is still downtown, and downtown restoration/revitalization has been a focus of the city developers. New apartment buildings opened recently.
Kinlaw's still operates. Ten years ago, Mr. Kinlaw opened a restaurant behind the grocery store, and is packed every day at lunch.
Cross Creek is still the only mall, though the movie theater inside closed about 10 years ago, and was expanded to include a food court/carousel in that space.
Actually most of this is all still there. The Prince Charles is a Radisson now.
That 76 sign is gone, but Vander is till much the same. The pile of old trucks, buses, and tires at 2:11 have been cleaned up - that land is now a walking track. The intersection at 2:15 now has a four-way red light because of car accidents.
Stedman Junior High is still in regular use, now as Stedman Elementary with grades 3-5. K-2 still at Stedman Elementary, now Stedman Primary.
I see a Roses in the early part of it. I know of a handful that are still around going strong now days. Be awesome to jump in this video and go find some rare Knight Rider toys! :)
Wow this video was shot about the time I was born in fayetteville, NC people may call my hometown boring but its home for me! One of the only cities I know that does hurt so bad when the economy is dry
fayetteville has grown so much since then, but, thing is, its all sprawl, it sucks, theres nothing to do and nothing worth caring about here.....sad really
Oops, the game footage is actually from September 1988, so it would be from the 1988-89 school year . I've changed the name of the video to show the correct years. The other footage (of the Cape Fear campus, Stedman, and Fayetteville) is from the spring or summer of 1987 and late 1986!
They did build another one across the street but I don't remember what it was called. I moved away back in '92. Too bad cross creek cinema is gone. Is Cross Creek Mall still there?
So cool. I was in the class of '85 and I'm still in Cedar Creek. They closed in the 'smoker's union' and had made it a gym as of 1995. It really brings back some good memories. It's amazing how Clinton Rd has changed. Building subdivisions along there now. Thanks for posting it to Youtube. I wish more would do the same.
I've linked the Cape Fear-West Robeson football game from 1987 (in Video Responses)which I had posted a few months ago. I'll try to upload some more footage later..:=)
Hey, this is pretty cool. I graduated from Cape Fear High in '88 and went to Stedman Jr High. I lived in Cedar Creek. Growing up there was great. Great people and fun times. Post more if you have it!
Yes, that is Coach Howard..she was my 10th grade homeroom teacher. I remember getting my hair cut at Junior Faircloth's as early as 1967 as a first grader, on through the 10th grade at Cape Fear (after which my family moved away in 1976). Glad to hear he is still cutting hair!
I also have another video of a football game in 1987 (Cape Fear vs West Robeson)...you should see a lot of familiar faces :-)
I grew up in the Vander area, but moved away after the 10th grade (in 1976). This was a return visit 11 years later and is exactly as I remember it. :=)
That's the year I was born. It's hard to believe Fayetteville hasn't changed much in 20 years (except for the fact TONS from sorry NYC have moved in). I haven't been to Fayetteville in almost 2 years, and that is the city for you (a ghost town in disguise). If it wouldn't be for the military bases that town would be nothing. Blame economic growth and several idiots moving in for they think the sorry ppl. down here are great *gags at thought*
dang i go their now, and NOTHING has change d:P

Wow! thanks for posting this little walk down the dark back corridors of my troubled mind.
I am a 1985 grad of Cape Fear, and alumnus of Stedman Jr. High.
Some highlights:
1:30-Is that Coach Howard walking into the gym?
1:58-I hear Junior Faircloth is still cutting hair, when he's not busy fishing.
