Great to see this clip after all these years! I saw this tour in Pittsburgh PA (9/17/82 if I recall correctly), & made a decent audio tape, but it's great to see these videos from the Italy & Germany shows. It was also great to hear the snippet of "Black Sunday" from Ian's previous solo LP between Breath & Cheerio.
According to Ian, Gerry`s timing was computer-like. Listen to these songs again! There is also a live version of "Watching Me, Watching You". I think Barrie, Mark and Doane would have a hard time doing it properly.
Tull are my favourite band of all time, but to me they were never the same after Barlow and Hammond left. Listen to the other live version on here - there's no comparison!
Still better than any other band in the world though.
The audience seemes to enjoy this concert. Why bitch about it cause they might me having a bad night. Enjoy the vid.....even bad Tull is better than any of the bullshit that's out there today!
Seen THE Tull at least ten times and those are the most ten enjoyable concerts I have ever been to. The last time I saw them, I popped and caught the giant balloon all in one motion!! Still have it!!
Ian said in an interview once that live Gerry was either dead on or dead wrong. A good night was perfect and a bad night was terrible. This video is a perfect example: Minstrel, bad night, Loco/Black Sun./Cheerio, good night. In the Minstrel clip Ian seams to be having a pretty bad night too as far as performance goes. It's an awful arrangement of the song too. Best version is on Bursting Out.
Always a pleasure to discover some old Tull footage, but let me say I desperately miss Barrie Barlow on this song... Conway is a good drummer, but nothing compared to Barlow's groove, power and technique...
Is that Gary Conway drumming? He Frigging sucks! That's not the beat to Minsrel!! Sounds like a 7 year old drumming! I can't believe he EVER played with Jethro Tull. The guy should go join Survivor!
The Minstrel in the Gallery looked down on the Rabbit run....and he threw away his looking glass....saw his face in everyone... thanks you Ian......love you and thanks for the memories
The Tull member in the still pic at the start of the video clip is Peter John Vattese. Peter John Vattese was a member of Tull during the recording and touring of Broadsword and the Beast (1982) and Under Wraps (1984). He played piano and keyboards and contributed to the arrangements.
Dave Pegg não chega aos pés de Hammond-Hammond!

Best Tull drummer ever? Mark Craney. Sadly he isn´t with us anymore.
rcnalland 3 years ago
craney is good, but i prefer barlow... and... im not sure about clive bunker... i'd say craney and him are equally matched :P
Aqualung1989 3 years ago
I always kinda put Clive Bunker in the same category as Mitch Mitchell. Not the most technically astute, but jazzy and amazingly exciting...

Hell Yeah. Mark Craney! Perfect Balance between technical skill and focus (something I often miss with Barlow)

Horrible drumming indeed!!!
Look how Ian seems to get pissed and waves at him to let loose a little. He's clearly out of his element and fits much better in Fairport.

Ian looks unwell. Ben this is not a great tibute to a wonderful group. Perhaps you should withdraw it.

Boy... did the 80's suck or WHAT?
Horrible version of a GREAT GREAT Tull classic.
Dreadful drumming and keyboard playing compared to ANY other era version.
Sadness.

Yup. This is absolutely weak at best. Doesn't help that Martin's sound is completely compressed, and Ian's voice is almost totally shot.
Sad.

Yep, this is just sad

This is not that bad, ease up a little bit. Just sounds different. Stop complaining.
