Tried these new seats long haul. They are a total failure. Extremely uncomfortable. I could not sleep because they don't recline much and they have no footrest. The bean bag was useless. I can't believe they tested these with real passengers. AirNZ have also reduced the PE service.
I tried these new seats last week on a 777 from Auckland to Heathrow. HORRIBLE! No recline, awkward leg spacing, hard seats. Arrived in Heathrow more exhausted than I've ever been due to lack of ability to sleep comfortably for more than 20 minutes. It really was impossible to find a comfortable way to rest my head. Way worse than the previous 747 Premium Economy, which was actually good. My recommendation would be not to waste your money on these.
@lugawhindisabaw The tray tables and TV screens fold out from the wall or seat in front of you, which I liked. It was the only thing I liked about the new design, though.
For some reason it looks completely bloody uncomfortable..and the bean bag, wtf is that??!! it needs upper thigh, knee/calf lift for rest. DVT waiting to happen ergh
For some reason it looks completely bloody uncomfortable..and the bean bag, wtf is that??!! it needs upper thigh, knee/calf lift for rest. DVT waiting to happening ergh
The idea looks versatile but I question how comfortable the actual seat will be at the end. seems like it will have the same problem as the CX Y class seat with no real recline. Still a looker that I would like to try.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE FLYING ECONOMY FLY PRIVATE JET AT $10,000. A HOUR FROM NEW YORK TO SYDNEY THAT IS ONLY $200,000. ONE WAY SO ONLY $400,000. ROUND TRIP FOR 1 TO 8 PASSENGERS. IF YOUR TOO CHEAP TO SPEND THAT THEN FLY FIRST CLASS THAT IS ONLY JUST $27,000. ROUND TRIP FOR FIRST CLASS ON THE AIRLINES PER PERSON. SYDNEY HILTON FOR 3 WEEKS IN A SUITE AND BREAKFAST IS ONLY $19,000. TOTAL $98,200. AND $25,200. FOR A LIMO AND $30,000. CASH. FOR A COUPLE.
What I hate most is when an FA serves you a meal or drink and the person in front suddenly reclines without notice. I've had several drinks almost spill on me because of these situations.
This seat doesn't recline enough for Premium Economy, but looks nice. I think the most important thing for a long haul flight is to have a seat that reclines enough to allow the seat to fully support your head...so that you can sleep. But these new seats are very creative. Nice to see an airline thinking outside the box..
@MarcocassLA i just don't get how you're actually supposed to sit like that for a long time (facing each other). you're leaning on the outer armrest to face each other?

I don't mean to sound rude but I think this is stupid I think they only designed this for the look and not safety in mind God forbid if there was a crash I hope those seats would stay in place.
@Eri777 The only real chance of surviving a crash is with runway overrun type accidents. Air New Zealand flies ocean routes so a crash will likely end up in the ocean. There is no seat design that will allow survival in those types of accidents.
@Eri777 They're 16G seats. Better than most flying today. And they might even offer a level of protection from loose objects with the walls behind your seat.
@Eri777 I really don't see why you think they wouldn't be safe? I'm not trying to insult you or anything, I just don't really get your point of view. Care to enlighten me?
Economy seats shouldn't even have the ability to recline. You have no idea how much it pisses me off when someone reclines their seat in front of me when I don't do it in order to ensure the person behind me is comfortable. That is called being thoughtful and just nice. Don't do to others what you wouldn't want be done to you.
@fly4fun Well if you dont like it, dont fly economy ! Why should the person in front of you not be able to recline and be comfortable just because you want to sit upright ? It works both ways and it strikes me you are being just as selfish. HOWEVER - what I will say is that there should be periods when all seats have to be upright - during meal times. Other than that i dont see why people shouldnt be comfortable.,
@kiwibiwi I'm pretty sure seats are supposed to be up for meal times... they've definitely asked me to move my seat up when the person behind me was getting food (i wasn't being inconsiderate, i just forgot to move it up haha)
thats so true, last time SFO to Munich, 11,5 hours in a fucking Lufthansa Airbus with the seat in front of me seriously 10 inches away from my nose. I am 6,5 ft but still that was pathetic, in fact ill never use LH again
11 hours? hell, I couldn't imagine going economy. At least in the airlines I have been on. Including Continental and American Airlines. The best "Economy" seats I have experienced where on Jet Blue. But that isn't saying allot.
I am saying that the economy seat should not have the ability to recline. I am not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to recline since people will do it anyway. I have been on long 2-3 hour flights on small jets (ERJs). They are cramped to begin with. Having the a-hole in front of you recline and take away the little bit of legroom you have to begin with makes me want to reach over and strangle the person.
Sure. How I would love to fly in business class or first on every flight I took. Oh wait... I can't... because not every aircraft has first class or business class and I am not Alan Greenspan!
First, In the U.S. very rarely will you see an airline use a large airliner for short regional flights in airports that are not as big as JFK or miami. Second, I am not the one who reclines, it is the guy in front of me, so your statement makes no sense.
1. there may not be seats available in the emergency exit or in the front rows. Those are usually the first seats to go due to the very reason you are stating.
2. Saying that it is my own fault for living in America is strange because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Sure its not perfect but that is not a solution.
I am just saying that coach seats shouldn't have the ability to recline. Just my opinion. Lets leave it at that.
@marick626 why does it piss you off? how does it make the person behind you more comfortable? if everyone lies down they sit more comfortably and have the same amount of space.
i was trying to sleep one a flight and this indian couple kept annoying me to move my seat up on a 10 hour flight because it was difficult for them to get up. seriously though, i'm not supposed to sleep bc they want to get up 3 times in 10 hrs? i would understand if they woke me to get up.. even though u can get out w/out
@marick626 If I was a little pipsqueak I could see your point. I'm 6'3 with short for my height legs and a giant torso (and not fat). I'm going to recline because otherwise I don't fit. And I know you are not gonna say anything to me because nobody ever does.
I think its a move in the right direction. All passengers should have this type of seat. What makes one person better than another. Air New Zealand is starting to move this way. They should be acknowledged for this. Way to Go. I would fly with Air New Zealand anytime before I would fly with anyone else. Given the chance that is,since I live in canada.
I always laugh when new AC layouts like this are shown. Just like the 747 and the A380 lavish layouts. When the airlines configure the AC, they jam as many seats as they can in them. You can't even eat if teh person in front has their seat reclined.
There's so much room on the ground...i'd just sit/sleep on the floor

honestly it looks amazing, BUT it looks uncomfortable...just abit...
but i think i will be pleasantly surprised when i get a chance to seat in one...since it is AIR NZ.

it's only 3-4 hour's you will live it's not like youre flying to africa!

first seats in each class or the emergency exit is a very good row.
