I'm an 18 year old, girl, who REALLY wants to go into the Coast Guard as a rescue swimmer. My eyes get REALLY irritated when stuff gets in them and the only thing holding me back from calling a recruiter is the pepper spraying. My dad was in the Coast Guard (rescue swimmer) and he encourages me to join but he, fortunately, did not have to get pepper sprayed back then. Can someone just tell me it's worth it? I guess I just need to hear it is worth it from someone with OC experience.
@JmacFan4ever0709 just take the pain for a day. if you cant take oc for a day then you probably aren't rescue swimmer material. test yourself. some units make everyone do it, regardless of whether or not they are doing law enforcement, some make only the law enforcement guys do it. it all depends on your oic.
yeah i just had it done yesterday, i'm at sta barnegat light in nj, it definately effects different people in different ways, for me it was the breathing, i can handle the burning skin and eyes, it just effected my breathing so much, that shit sucks

Nope, plans got changed along the way. Decided to attend school.
Being enrolled inclasses in High School made me realize I was in to deep in those courses not to attend further schooling afterwards.

The pain in the eyes wasn't the biggest deal for me. but the burning feeling in your face is just killing. felt like 3th degree burning wounds.

I had to do that in St. Pete, FL (I'm a Coastie). They told us that if we cursed then we had to do it again. I think they lied.
