  • had the same noise I tore it all apart and replaced the fan it runs super quiet now there is at least one tricky thing to watch out for when reassembling it has to do with the screws holding the switch cover I also used arctic 5 and it's running very cool.

  • lol - when the cover is reattached the extra height in the assembly creates a small amount of pressure on the fan housing - this causes the fan to spin slightly slower. The result of this 'fix' will be overheating and possibly catastrophic damage to the main-board. The funny thing is that it is actually a very trivial thing to fix once you know what the cause is. Basically the grease on the fan spindle dries out , a few drops of sewing machine oil on the fan spindle is all that is required...

  • @fraserChapman nonsense... there is huge 5mm gap there, and don't put 2-3 layer of tape..

  • @fraserChapman Thank you so very much, I just put sewing machine oil in my fan (SZ-120P) using a small screwdriver to push it down and allow oil to lubricate it... I completely forgot it was this quiet!

  • Pls upload a video.showing how to replace the vaio sz fan -thank you

  • thanks friend just what it says your video again and my vaio works without disturbing noises thank you very much

    recommend this method

  • I have a VPCCW16FA Will this work ?

  • @emoguy1817 i don't think so, VPC totally different layout with VGN series.

  • My vaio already 4 yrs 6 mths old.. only 2 problems I had, USB port broken and LCD backlight broken last yr due to fell down from dining table to tile floor, about 2ft high. And replaced it with 2ndhand part from ebay. I need to dissambled my vaio top to bottom just to replace it... And up untill now it still standing perfectly...

  • Thanks, this helped me out tremendously. The wire for the fan was taught and I just needed to loosen it so it would be away from the fan itself. (VGN-SZ120P)

  • I have the same vio and I have the same problem. Did that trick work for you? My fan is loud I have serviced my computer but cant get the noise to go away.

  • I solved this problem on my SZ. Buy a can a of silicone based lubricant. Attach the spray straw and spray it in. You only need a small amount (one short spray will do). Do not use WD-40.

  • wow, genius! i thought i needed a new fan, turns out i just needed to tape down a few wires. you saved me time and money, THANKS!!!

  • Dude .. There is no other option to solve that problem.. You can get the same TOSHIBA FAN from E-BAY it will cost you like 35-40 . You'll have to take the your laptop apart , Google SONY SZ Fan Repair you are gonna find a very detail guide on how to do it.. Just take your time and be careful with the fine ribbon cables an boards. Ones the job is done your laptop will sound just like when new.

MOTHERBOARD and GRAPHIC CARD uses the same HEAT SINK that is ventilated by that fan. Good luck

  • @trimer34 no harm to try any method... my buzz'g noisy just coz of this problem... it my fan totally broke than I'll change the fan... sometime just cosmetic will do the trick...

  • @trimer34 do you know full name of this toshiba fan?

  • @EdiEstebes That's easy.. It is an standard on SZ series .. check at ebay

look for toshiba fan vaio SZ compatible or something like that..

    good luck .

  • thankyou.. it's work..

  • I had to order a new fan for my Vaio Sz 650, it cost me 35$ on ebay. I took me 6 hrs to replace the fan, you need to remove the motherboard, and deal with a shitload of screws. But the hard work payed off :)

  • @butuco23 I did teardown my vaio to replace broken USB couples mths ago...

  • @butuco23 ...many Vaio models are hopelessly over-engineered. Repairing them is a bitch.

  • thats nice ty :)

  • seems like sony fixed the Vaio z series (2010) with the fan noises.

i have z series and the fan is soo quiet, but lets out a lot of hot air :P

  • Thanks a lot ! this solution really helps!

The problem is that the fan getting lose and starting to touch the wires. I used super glue instead of tape ( glue layer on sellotape may melt at high temperature, which you get a lot in vaios ) If you start your vaio laptop with open bottom lid you can actually find the best wire position for your laptop by moving it while fan is on. During this procedure you also may replace thermo paste on chip, left hand side with removing two or even one screw.

  • Lol THis Method For my labtop... My Fan Stoped Working Lol

  • wow, this is amazing. I used electrical tape, and reduced the noise. I don't know how long will it last but thanks a lot !!!

  • I dont know what u are doing in this video but one can not open TZ laptops that easily. Entire chassis must be opened to even see the fan. It is just annoying that high end models like TZ series ( USD 2000-3000 ) have such silly issues.

  • This helped me. Thanks. I folded and shoved a small piece of tape beneath the wire to elevate it a little from the fan before taping it down. The fan still whirs more loudly than a lot of the newer laptops, but it's much quieter now.

  • No offense buddy.. But this wont solve the problem (it might for a while)

there is a little PCB on top of of the fan were this 2 lines are soldered but even when the PCB is firm attached to the plastic case that holds the fan, the real problem is that the rotating blade's gets loose depending of how much you use your machine..

You have to dig in to the machine from the keyboard side, once you get to the fan you'll be able not just to remove it but also to apply some paste to Graphic C. Sink ..

  • Absolute star you are my friend. The noise has been driving me nuts for ages, Sony wouldn't fix it, local shop looked at it and said clean it so i did. This worked all for a bit of tape!

    Thanks a thousand

  • Buddy, it is nice that you are trying to help, but you could be a lot more helpful. What exactly does sticking a piece of tape to my laptop do? Does it make the fan more stable and is that why the noise goes away? Does it matter where I put the tape? If you really want to help please expand on what you did. Thanks!

  • I'm using rubber tape (double sided), sellotape or foam tape will dry up fast.

  • @klausenrique To me it looks like what was casuing the nosie was the wires being loose. and it was tapping against the fan making that fucking annoying nosie. didnt know the problem was so simple.

  • I have this problem on my SZ, although it's not quite as loud as this. So, I'm selling it w/o the HD. First $100 gets it.

Comes with 2 batteries as well.

  • It's a SZ460N, BTW.

  • wish i had 100 bucks... l0l i never had this prob... nor do i (have the sz right now but all black vista 2 years old)

  • hey genius. in your description. you state " I solved it just for 5 minutes" so basically this method is useless then. And by the way maybe you could explain to us just what the fuck you are doing in this video and what we need for materials.??? thanks

  • Hi, I'm just want to help anybody that have same problem with me... if this method help... great. if not so sorry... maybe just try and if solved can save afew bucks b4 you go straight to repair shop. Just require knife, screwdriver and tape.

  • @advancedwarfighter07 i think what he means is that it took all of 5 mins not that it'd work for only 5..i think i may try this

  • @advancedwarfighter07 hey idiot. He meant he solved it in 5 minutes.

  • work awesome.. and computer running poewrful and quiet...

awesome!!!! you better than any technician from the sony store

  • isn't there a video that teaches you how to lube the fan???

  • Thank you so much, it works! :)

  • I have the CS. where would that be located on my machine?

  • it really works! Thanks a lot.

the defect is mainly due to high temp. and the base of fan is distorted.

fixing this cable can help the base of the fan become more stable, so the sound gone, u may simply use a finger to hold it, the sound will gone too....

I am happy with my sony sz notebook now... thanks again.

  • That is so gonna ruin the cooling system...

  • Hi, will a duct tape work?

  • thanks for posting this...i've been trying to find a solution for months...

  • lol my fan beats the crap out of yours! 10x louder ftw! =]

  • does this method work on CS series? I don think so

  • I have the same problem with the CS11S fan motor noise. Sony knows it's a defect. You need to call them collect the computer and repair it...takes 5-10 working days. They will not send the part to non-Sony repair centres, so you must go through Sony. There is no news of this on their website, but if you call Sony Customer Support they will know about it...just look at the number of views of the videos complaining about it!

  • @nuuesp1 yup! I called a sony style store and they said to bring my computer in Friday and they'd have the part by Monday. They said there was a defect with it and they'd fix it locally and wouldn't have to send it out to the manufacturer.

  • this guy's a total fool. don't ever ever do that watchers. it won't solve the problem. if you really want to do it, use sticky rubber etc

  • Comment removed

  • I presume you tried to clean first the vents? I have the same problem and I thought I got some dust...

What kind of tape do you use? does it have some cushion or is it a plain tape? Thanks for the video.

  • try rubble type double sided tape... standard tape will dried up fast (in hot environment)...

  • Muy bueno me soluciono un problema q pense q habia q cambiar el fan gracias!!

  • that tape on plastic body (fan body)... don't tape it on heat sink...

  • be careful! hot + tape = u must know :S
