  • I have seen those rail cars before. I think they are on the way to Kingston from Ellenville. I think that is 209. Cool post.

  • Good that they will be restored. It would be a shame to scrap them or leave them to rust away

  • @starguard

The CMRR already has 2 DLW MUs on its Phoenicia based Catskill Scenic Train. 701 + 702 - both look great with their recent interior work completed!!!!

  • we're still waiting for those to be moved btw...

  • @Woodenfan

    soon, don't worry

  • I am

  • So they where saved?

  • Is this stuff surplus or did they just not know where to put it before moving it into there yard?

  • @sgprailfan

Just stuff that didn't have a specific home at the time of it's arrival. Then the stuff became trapped, but it will soon be relocated.

  • junk

  • @enginedave no

  • @HaloCE14 The freight railroads will only buy oil engines. Because the people who sell the oil and make the engines have major holdings of stock in the railroads. They have the power to fire the management if they don't do what they want. Their people sit on the board of directors! These people run the companys! The're also in the banks, if you talk about money, don't leave out the banks!

  • @HaloCE14 We need to rebuild some of the steamers. Like England and Germany are doing. How about a Monon type? 4-10-4? Or a New DL&W Pocono or Hudson?

  • There is one on the property but it is not operable. It has been disassembled for years and under "restoration" - however I believe it actually belongs to the ESRM.

  • @nhlives In the found history, It's merely to be fixed and operated by CMRR, it is in fact owned by the ESRM.... as well as a 2-6-2 which is apparently in Middletown? Or somewhere in southern New York...

  • @mountainlova1009 2-6-2 moved to thomasville CT

  • @nhlives The 2-6-2 from Middletown and New Jersey operation?

  • @intercityrailpal transfered to RR museum of New England in Connecticut where it worked the valley railroad. From there it was removed from service in the 80's, and now is w/ the RR museum of New England north of Waterbury. They don't intend to run it, but I would love them to.

  • Well, if they are restoring the cars and are planning to bring the line back to life, then I am not crying but am shouting in triumphant glee!!!!

  • Right down the street from Hurley, NY State Police barracks and Kingston.

Right near where used to live.

  • Sad to see them like that.Last time l saw these they were very much in service, and

    sounding good!

  • @AG3304 CNJ sold their cars off for $600 a piece some went for $800.

  • @intercityrailpal Be nice to see one running on the juice again!

  • @AG3304 I think they used a strange electric system, which was changed when the newer cars came in. That's why for a few days they pulled the trains with diesels during the change over on the M&E. It had to be changed to the Northeast Corridor system to operate in Penn Station. (Pennsylvania Railroad Station) DL&W I think was 3000v DC The Penn was 11,000 v DC ? Most trolleys and Rapid Transit run on 600v DC.

  • @intercityrailpal They did indeed. The cars ran on a 3000V DC system,so when that power was turned off there were a few days before the changeover to AC was made. The Penn was 11,000V AC,and to get the old DL&W cars to run on that would've been too expensive for equipment as old as they were,so sadly they had to go,with newer Arrow 3s taking over l think.

  • @AG3304 & @intercityrailpal

They did indeed change from old DLW (300vDC) to new NJT (25kvAC) but this is NOT I REPEAT NOT the same as into Penn Sta and the NEC. Amtrak uses 12.5kvAC - this is why arrow cars cannot run on Midtown Direct trains - as they cannot transition on the fly. You have to change voltage just west of SWIFT. The arrows you would have to walk thru the train and flip a switch in each pair to make transition.

Over on NYConnRR (Hell Gate Bridge Route) and the NHV its 11kvAC.

  • @nhlives Thanks for the info,l'd forgotten the new voltage was 25,000 AC,so of course the Arrows couldn't use the Amtrak supply.lnteresting to hear that you have to walk through and switch each Arrow pair to change over too, must be a pain!

  • @AG3304

thats why the arrow's rarely move from the HOB div to the NWK div. As a matter of fact if you look under the 'center door' on each car you'll usually find a sticker denoting how that pair/car (in the case of the singles) is set up.

  • @nhlives l can imagine that. Here in England we have some units (class 313,319,375,377 ) that'll run on both live rail at 800V DC and 25,000V AC overhead.Changeover is always done with the train stopped. The new Javelin units can do this too.

lnteresting to hear of how the Arrows are set up to run on one or the other AC system.l thought there were some single cars, but wasn't sure.

  • @intercityrailpal WOW! I would have bought that, though S&H might have been a problem...

  • Well Folks sometime in the next few months the CMRR plans to bring the restorable cars back to Kingston to work on. One car are already restored and the second will be finished for the next season!!!

  • Which car will be taken back? How many cars will still be on the line by that point?

  • all the cars at this location will eventually (soon enough) be brought in to Kingston to Cornell Street Yard. EXCEPT: The Diner (which is the easternmost of the cars at 209) which will be scrapped. It is the car behind the EL MU at the opening view of this video. The diner IS a lost cause. I have been in it - its beyond too far gone. Best bet now to scrap it and put the money from the scrap metal sale to use on other projects.

  • @nhlives Scraped? the NYC Diner? Hmph, We can't just gut it and fix the car? No dinner train then huh....

  • @mountainlova1009

No. That NYC Diner is WAYYYY too far gone. Scrap is all that can be done with it. If you would like to purchase it yourself for your own attempt at restoration, I'm sure something can be worked out, but it will need to be moved off CMRR property soon.

  • @nhlives Huh. Very well, Sad to see it go, But, Hey, Moneys nice too.....

  • @nhlives That's really is a diner-palour. It has steps on one end. straight diners did not have these. It's also the last NYC heavyweight diner around. They just don't make them anymore. When it's gone, it's gone! I ate in that car on a CNJ fan trip years ago it was painted D&H. The food was great!

  • ouch

  • ah yes, i see those cars everytime i go to campers barn, i'd love to see action on those tracks.

  • stay tuned, it will happen.

  • NJ Railfan here and yes we do get a little choked up when you see the old DL&W "Wicker Liners" in that shape.

I miss the old Lackawanna MU's. Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • @orphangames You ever get to ride the Palour cars? There were three left at the end. One is in Roscoe as a O&W fish car????? The second is in Boonton, the third was just sold to ???? They were the last cars in the country to use ice air conditioning! Into the 1980's now that's a shame!

  • Oh my! I am a railfan from NJ. No tears though but wow!

Do you think they are for sale?

  • no, the EL MUs will be made into coaches for the CMRR - as the 701 + 702 already have - not sure the fate of the CNJ coaches. The diner is shot tho.

  • @nhlives Remember those CNJ coaches were used on the O&W Mountaineer! O&W would lease cars for the summer from the West Shore and the CNJ. So there is a O&W connection there.

  • trainspotting? Ah well, each to his own.

  • oh my god i used to ride those when i was a kid. funny thing is , my mother used to ride them when she was a kid. in fact, my grandmother used to ride them shortly after she graduated highschool in 1925.

  • Just to clarify my views on the CMRR: They are an amazing bunch of folks who I must complement because unlike the other two operations on the old U&D the CMRR group HAS ITS HEART IN THE RIGHT PLACE!!!!!!

  • yeah ur exactly right...!

  • All I know is the DURR gets absoloutely no respect from me since they let the line from Arkville to Highmount go to shit - and wasted the "repair money" to buy a shiny silver train (maybe they're autistic?). Then of course there's the NYC Gas Motorcar, one of the two S-units has gone to shit, and now they're letting Hallcottsville siding deteriorate. So, while the CMRR is trying to expand and improve, the DURR is just making that sound "durrrrrr...urrr...durrrr...."

  • @nhlives That silver train has some very rare cars on it. One of the cars is one of the very few Minneapolis and Saint Louis coaches (now a lounge) which was used on the Rock Island Rocket trains too. There also is a bullet nosed New York Central Obs car! Yes, these cars should be on the back of Amtrak as private cars. But at least they were saved, for the next chapter in the rail story. Perhaps someday in service to New York again? Intercity trains sell out today you know.

  • yup...im with the CMRR and once we expand our yard(which we r in the prosses of) were going to move'em in there and start restoring them

  • yup, I hear the Kingston FD and building inspectors gave you guys the nod to proceed with fence moves - I saw the new fence posts so far - You guys have my support. Hopefully the scrapping of the diner will net the RR a little cash for other things....

  • *sniff*..... wahhhh :(

  • jwaaaahh
