I took my car down to the shop to get some repairs done. In the taxi on the way home the radio was on a news channel talking about it... I ended up watching it on TV when I got home and fell asleep on the couch with the TV on...
I was in kindergarten, school was let out early, next-door neighbors knocked on the door and begged us to turn on CNN since they didn't have cable, I didn't know what was going on until my parents told me.
It was the day after my wife and i decided to get divorced...blah. Watched the destruction as it happened and couldn't really put it into perspective.
I was on my way to work thinking about where I would take my mom for her birthday, since that day was her 50th. To this day I still don't forget to wish her a happy birthday despite the attacks.
showed up to school crying. Classes were odd that day because every teacher kept the tvs on and some people even thought a world war three would erupt from it. It was probrably the most disturbing day of my life. It's taken years to deal with what I saw live that day. It's different when you see a real plane hit a sky scraper as opposed to seeing it on a movie.
I was taking a shower before school (I was a Junior in high school) and my mom ran in the bathroom and shouted that someone accidently hit one of the twin towers. Of course at the time we didn't realize it was intentional, but out of curiosity I threw on a towel and ran out to the dining room where a small tv was and watched what was going on and watched the second plane hit live. I ended up being late for school and
I was watching it on TV half-a-world away from the event. It didn't seem like a new image to me, nor a big deal. Seen the same thing happen all over Palestine everyday.
i had actually been on the roof of the WTC (as a tourist) a few years prior, so the people jumping bothered me especially. I bought a WTC pencil sharpener as a souvineer that day but i don't know what ever happened to it.
I was at work. Someone heard on the radio there'd been a big 'accident', and a few people went into the glass-walled meeting room to watch the TV — and just never came out. More and more people gradually packed in. Then someone came out, looking ill, and told us about the crash. The day just stopped.
It was about 2pm, a few hours before I started work. My dad shouted up to me that a plane had just hit the WTC. I thought it was probably some 2 seater Cessna, and slowly made my way to a TV to catch the news report -- that's when I saw the 2nd plane hit, and suddenly realized the the full extant of the horror.
From then on we sat glued to the news as the reports came in of other hijackings, the crashes, and the collapses.
I was a freshman in college, in the middle of one of my physics classes when I heard. Soon after that classes were canceled. A lot of my classmates were either from or had family in NYC, so a lot of us were not only shocked but worried about friends and family. Since I didn't have school or work for the rest of that day I decided to drive to my parents house which was about an hour drive. My mom couldn't get in touch with any of my family there because the phones didn't work.
Also this was when I first saw the TV coverage of the event (this around 11:00 AM). Even though I knew what was going on, I still was shocked and could not believe this was going on.
I was hanging out with a friend. It was shortly after our graduation. We got to my parents' apartment and my mom was totally shocked and just told us to turn on the TV.
Extremely pregnant with my 3rd child. My father was here visiting. My dad was quite upset remembering Pearl Harbor... he was a Marine during WW2. I was doing my best not to watch TV so as not to upset myself. I did not want my son born on 9-11-01. All I knew is that I had 2 little children to dress, feed breakfast, and care for. We did all pray together that day for all the victims. It was definitely a day of shock and awe. I did go into false labour that evening. James was born 9-14

Not an easy day to remember at all, no doubt about it.
And it really did look like an atomic blast of some sort. Very surreal - especially watching it unfold in live news coverage.
