hi , i made my first one today, is short as i used a skate board to make it with, but im happy as can be with it :) i posted upa video of me playing it, not that i know how, but still . its alot of fun
@fireicer ha, thanks. Yeah it was a hot day with lots of boats going by, so it was funny watching people's reactions...two women in a canoe just stopped paddling and drifted by with their mouths open, lol!!
Well I made a really basic one from a bit of driftwood (I have a video on of it called "Home made Diddley Bow - Ouse Blues Machine")...not too much soldering..just a piezo wired to a 1/4" jack...or if you REALLY hate soldering Google JJB electronics...they do good pick ups all ready to put in, so no soldering needed. If you want more ideas and help go to the Cigar Box Nation site : -)
@bemuzic Definitely! ^^ I'll need some practice though XD SO are piezos a good way to go? amd can you recommend any brand/ type of guitar string to use?
@RevolutionarySamurai Don't worry about practising too much...keep it rough and ready for a Diddley Bow!!....well piezo's are easy..some people put a magnetic pick up on, but I've never used one. Strings...I just used what I had left over, doesn't need to be anything special...think it was a low E string on this video, and on my homemade one...on my bought one I used an A string (video is called Diddley Bow, Diddley Bow!!!)...you can use whatever you like though...just experiment : -)
@bemuzic haha XD well i got some tins, so wood, coupla nails some guitar string and piezo! sorted...(ohh....and an amp) haha Ill be sure to make a vid in the future
@profwaldo lol, thanks for your comments!...yeah I lay in bed that night feeling guilty about all the bugs that might be crawling around shell shocked : -/ Holsteins eh, I'll bear that in mind for the next gig!!
this is the funniest (entertaining!) video you have ever shot!!! What a great idea though!! I didnt realise Dave had such good rhythm. I hope loads and loads of people get to watch this xx
@helstor yeah we really enjoyed doing it!...mmm shame to chop it up...and maybe the sustain was partly because of how a lot of it was raised off the ground?? Will check out the link though, thanks
Marvelous....A little more time practicing together and you will be a full fledged band....Like the green aspect of the outing as well....Leave no trace...
@H0LL0WBELLY thanks a lot!...yeah the cows did seem very curious, but who knows what they were thinking??...I thought afterwards, maybe that was there favourite spot to hang out, and they were just annoyed we were there!!!
@nightkrawler101 Hi Julie, didn't know you were on YouTube : -) glad to brighten up your morning....mmm quite a few boats went past while we were doing it and some reacted more than others!!
Ah, that must have been the horn section I saw. Good stuff. A lovely day for a nice quiet trip down the river eh mavis, What the dickens! ha ha ha. Regards.
@Django5198 I put it down to the heatwave!!...er decided to leave it down there, my husband's been very understanding about the six cigar box guitars, and two Diddley Bows that I've acquired over about the last 6 months, but i think this would be pushing my luck!!
Absolutely brilliant - well done both of you - what a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. I have been meaning to put batteries in my cube and go walkabout - now I know good it sounds there is no excuse!
just rewatching this Be, funny to be upstaged by your own sustain...lol

This was great fun and very creative. :-)
Amazing how long it resonated, pretty cool.
It's quite possible that the breeding habits of any
bugs in that log may be forever altered.
Try Holsteins for an audience next time, I've found
them to be quite accommodating. They not only
offer great vocals but they also laugh at my jokes.
Dang, I thought I already sub'd you, done deal now.
Don't worry, I'm almost out of characters, hang tight.
Great Video !!! Thanks for sharin' it. :-))

Great video. Looks like you had loads of fun.
That log seems to have a lot of sustain - maybe you should chop it up and build a lap steel guitar from it:
