  • @Pennyn1310 lol, yeah that went on forever!!

  • hi , i made my first one today, is short as i used a skate board to make it with, but im happy as can be with it :) i posted upa video of me playing it, not that i know how, but still . its alot of fun

  • @nextellcup8 cool, I'm off to have at look : -)

  • thats just to awesome

  • @nextellcup8 thanks : -)

  • I notice you cranked the amp up to '11' ;0)

  • @mrbadgestar lol, yeah, a Diddley Bow has to be played LOUD!!

  • Thats so crazy in a way but i totally love it. Wonder what the people going buy in the cruiser were thinking lol. awesome

  • @fireicer ha, thanks. Yeah it was a hot day with lots of boats going by, so it was funny watching people's reactions...two women in a canoe just stopped paddling and drifted by with their mouths open, lol!!

  • MoJo.

  • @bestillroy : -)

  • great !!, why i didn't see it before ?! i subscrite,, so now...

  • @tinqui8 thanks!...and for the subscribe : -)

  • that was awesome, I wanna make an electric diddley bo

any tips? (can't solder for peanuts)

  • @RevolutionarySamurai thanks...yeah make one, they're so much fun to play!!

Well I made a really basic one from a bit of driftwood (I have a video on of it called "Home made Diddley Bow - Ouse Blues Machine")...not too much soldering..just a piezo wired to a 1/4" jack...or if you REALLY hate soldering Google JJB electronics...they do good pick ups all ready to put in, so no soldering needed. If you want more ideas and help go to the Cigar Box Nation site : -)

  • @bemuzic Sweet! I'll get a pickup than =D got myself a Small diddley bo now (sounds more like a bass)

  • @RevolutionarySamurai ooh sounds cool...eBay's also worth a look for pick ups : -)....I'd love to see a video of it when it's done!

  • @bemuzic Definitely! ^^ I'll need some practice though XD SO are piezos a good way to go? amd can you recommend any brand/ type of guitar string to use?

  • @RevolutionarySamurai Don't worry about practising too much...keep it rough and ready for a Diddley Bow!!....well piezo's are easy..some people put a magnetic pick up on, but I've never used one. Strings...I just used what I had left over, doesn't need to be anything special...think it was a low E string on this video, and on my homemade one...on my bought one I used an A string (video is called Diddley Bow, Diddley Bow!!!)...you can use whatever you like though...just experiment : -)

  • @bemuzic haha XD well i got some tins, so wood, coupla nails some guitar string and piezo! sorted...(ohh....and an amp) haha Ill be sure to make a vid in the future

  • @RevolutionarySamurai good luck!...I look forward to seeing how you get on : -)

  • I've never seen anyone make an instrument out of an old tree lying around. You are the Ray Mears of the music world. Absolutely fantastic video.

  • @TK42138 lol, Ray Mears!! cheers : -)

  • This was great fun and very creative. :-)

Amazing how long it resonated, pretty cool.

It's quite possible that the breeding habits of any

bugs in that log may be forever altered.

Try Holsteins for an audience next time, I've found

them to be quite accommodating. They not only

offer great vocals but they also laugh at my jokes.

Dang, I thought I already sub'd you, done deal now.

Don't worry, I'm almost out of characters, hang tight.

Great Video !!! Thanks for sharin' it. :-))

  • @profwaldo lol, thanks for your comments!...yeah I lay in bed that night feeling guilty about all the bugs that might be crawling around shell shocked : -/ Holsteins eh, I'll bear that in mind for the next gig!!

  • This is Absolutely my favorite Diddley Vid.

    Excellent beMuzic

  • @bestillroy thanks a lot Roy! :-)

  • this is the funniest (entertaining!) video you have ever shot!!! What a great idea though!! I didnt realise Dave had such good rhythm. I hope loads and loads of people get to watch this xx

  • @windywyton cheers!, it was great laugh to do...could start a trend, lol!! yep Dave done good : -)

  • I LOVE it!!!!!! What a fabulous concept and a true inspiration for building these instruments! Congrats!!!!

  • @MamaMojoGuitars thanks a lot! : -)

  • Great video. Looks like you had loads of fun.

That log seems to have a lot of sustain - maybe you should chop it up and build a lap steel guitar from it:

    Check out: buildyourguitar-dot-com/resources/lapsteel

  • @helstor yeah we really enjoyed doing it!...mmm shame to chop it up...and maybe the sustain was partly because of how a lot of it was raised off the ground?? Will check out the link though, thanks

  • wow that rocks

  • @rebob59 cheers Bob

  • Marvelous....A little more time practicing together and you will be a full fledged band....Like the green aspect of the outing as well....Leave no trace...

  • @jimendo45qf thanks...a LOT more practice I think,lol!

  • high risk of sunburn and low pollen - and great fun!

great video and terrific idea - I think you've started something!

  • @LeSaMilano thanks, lol that would be funny if lots of people now started doing it!!

  • best vid Ive seen in a while-brill! loved the shot of the cows-was it me or did they look genuinely interested?! most excellent!!! ;0)

  • @H0LL0WBELLY thanks a lot!...yeah the cows did seem very curious, but who knows what they were thinking??...I thought afterwards, maybe that was there favourite spot to hang out, and they were just annoyed we were there!!!

  • That was brilliant, more like an open air concert than busking. :D Great way to enjoy these first summer days. :)

  • @maartenruetten thanks, ha my first gig then : -) yep got to make the most of these warm days...due to go colder again from tomorrow

  • That is so cool! Alfresco Diddley Bow, made me smile. Very cool video, thanks.

  • @Strikeslip thanks, glad it's made a few people smile : -)

  • well that certainly brought a smile to my monday morning here at the office.!!!

How inventive and creative of you.loved your audience, but expected a lil more reaction from the passing boat .

    Julie.

  • @nightkrawler101 Hi Julie, didn't know you were on YouTube : -) glad to brighten up your morning....mmm quite a few boats went past while we were doing it and some reacted more than others!!

  • lol

    you are a crafter indeed!!

    simplest ever instrument¿¿

  • @anukittta thanks...yeah can't think how to get any more minimalist!

  • awesome! Bet you got a few confused looks from folk going past.

  • @jhob101 yep I think confusion sums up the vibe we were getting!!

  • Ah, that must have been the horn section I saw. Good stuff. A lovely day for a nice quiet trip down the river eh mavis, What the dickens! ha ha ha. Regards.

  • @Bilbo107 lol!

  • WTF! That's crazy! Any room in your house to store it? I wouldn't mind seeing that monster whilst walking along a river lol!

  • @Django5198 I put it down to the heatwave!!...er decided to leave it down there, my husband's been very understanding about the six cigar box guitars, and two Diddley Bows that I've acquired over about the last 6 months, but i think this would be pushing my luck!!

  • Those cows were looking at you wondering "whats this about????"

  • @johnmcnair ha yeah they seemed pretty confused!!

  • Absolutely brilliant - well done both of you - what a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. I have been meaning to put batteries in my cube and go walkabout - now I know good it sounds there is no excuse!

  • @MrRandomWritings thanks Brian...mmm it was a great day : -) Yeah take your Cube and go and play somewhere bizarre!! (make sure you film it!)

  • did you find that hammer in the barn them cows live?

  • @brown4895 lol, no we took bought the hammer with us : -)
