  • What's up with the serpant ?

Didn't it let eve eat the apple ?

  • it has nothing to do with Adam and Eve probable relates more to voodoo culture the serpent and the rainbow

  • its actually from Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime mythology

  • go the dude in the pink dress! :D

  • LSD :D

  • Not necessary, you have to experience the festival before you can really say.If ppl want to enhance the experience they can by any means possible. The festival its self is truly wonderful on its own.

  • looks like a good time for white fellas... the only black fellas i saw where statues...

wonderfully culturally appropriated name for the event however... cheers!

  • Well at least you see white fellas connecting with the spirit of the black fellas! Shame though more black fellas don't join in, you're right.

  • they may want to connect with their own spirit and recognize that they have their own relationships to spirit and to the land to work out.

most of the black fellas i know would rather that be the case. other wise the rainbow serpent festival sounds like cultural appropriation. especially seeing how there aren't many if any aboriginal people present.

  • well I would call it more like cultural assimilation since aboriginals tended not to psy-trance in their dance rituals and the fact that there aren't many aboriginals present should not mean that white people are not allowed to learn in some way and assimilate aboriginal culture into their own. I mean most of the time it's the other way around and I think it's nice to see for once white people taking some inspiration from the people who originally inhabited this land.

  • you are giving up something very unique and special by identifying this gathering and celebration with a culture that is not your own.. what you have created and participated in and co-created with spirit and the land is special, and must be honored as thus if it is to be respected by aboriginal peoples as well as all of us that come from the land.

  • While dancing their Dreamings, aborigines spiritually connect themselves to the land and to the Dreamtime. The drumming of feet during the dance draws the earth into dialogue with the dancers, allowing the ceremony to bring the power of the Dreaming to life.

    Beautiful, tomtravelman!

  • This is not a demonstration of all dreamings. Sorry, but I hate it when people describe our culture as if we were one tribe. We used sticks to coordinate rhythm, we did not "dance" we mimmicked wildlife to tell our stories

  • I totally agree with makinacide...visitors to rainbow serpent are entitled to do what they want, but seriously look at them - half of them are on acid, and the other half are on some other drug. I should know - my boyfriend's going there...when these kids grow up they can do whatever they choose and go wherever they want, but when they are so young, I believe the kids should be kept away from this and not be subjected to drug use and users.

    Peace xox

  • i remember hearing these guys at the foreshore in frankston and being drawn like moths... after a night of hard drinking they soothed the brain quite adequately, quite nice people as well... beautiful music

    BEAUTIFUL MUSIC MISO!

  • greetings from iDIDJ Australia!
