The MXS/MX2 is a Giles 202 with an Extra 300 wing mounted. This is a highly capable aircraft however i think the New Sbach 342 might take it head to head.

@MrROTD The MXS is a Single Seater, However the MX-2 is a Tandem Two Seat Aircraft. The Sbach 342 is without a doubt a high performance aircraft, But then again two Sbach 342's have crashed. The Sbach is great, but it is no MX. The Mx combines the fuselage of the Giles-202 with the Extra 300 wing and that combination made for a really aerobatic plane with stability.

The MXS is heavier, but with a stronger engine.

It is more aerodynamic than an Edge 540, but again, the Edge is lighter.

I think the race planes are much the same, it depends more on how the pilot flyes the plane rather than what plane it is.

the stock edge would be batterd by an mx-s but the mods on the edge in the air races make its aerodynamics and technology equal to the mx-s but i think the edge is better because its ighter.

oh and the most popular plane at the start of the air races was not the edge but the extra 300s and thats waht besenyie flew, but he later changes to the edge. both very good planes but personally i would choose the edge but thats just my opinion

Haha, that is an interesting question, one that will never be answered with complete independence. Personally, I think MX aircraft are fantastic, far ahead in technology from the Edge or Extra. To me, the fact that pilots are accommodating to it only proves how much different, and possibly better, the MX-S is. It's really up to you though, choose a team and root for it!

I fly the edge 540 (RC) and love the straight leading edge. the mxs has a long way to go. If someone gave me one, I would love it, If I had to spend my own million dollars, surely the EDGE wins!!

The MXS is a sensitive plane I have flown the prototype several times. However my MX2 was the most sensitive I had flown too. Now after several hundred hours it feels totally natural. I am sure when I take delivery of my MXS later this year it will become just as natural. I tell you what it tumbles better then any aircraft I have ever seen.

My friend Rob Holland said the same thing about the MX-S. The best way to describe it he said is that the envelope to do all gyroscopic maneuvers, such as a tumble, is much much larger than his MX-2. Have fun with it though, you should come on up to Boire Field and have a run with him!

no. They are too fast, heavy and nowhere near as agile as a MXS or Extra 300. Red Bull planes are more like paper airplanes compared to a spitfire or a me 109. Fiberglass and carbon fiber are the main materials these planes are made of...they are VERY light and strong...Even if u could use an old ww2 plane...u would get raped!
