Punk isn't a joke,it may be dead but that doesn't mean that aren't still bands and people who keep the spirit of it alive in some way.Like bands that stick to their ideals and morals and don't sell out to the corporations.Bands like NOFX, Bad Religion, Op Ivy, The Casualties, The Distillers, ETC.Besides punk isn't defined by what you do,but who you are.well true punk is,not the pussy as music nowadays that is labeled as punk by the record companies.

@Xoldskooldrummer16X a) Punk is not dead if there are still people who live it. b) A couple of those bands are in fact sold out. c) Punk is absolutely defined by what you do, insofar as who you are is largely obsolete if you don't live life your way. That's like saying that being an athlete isn't about actually playing sports, just liking them. d) There is a difference between punk genre (a sound) and punk music (reflects an attitude). Punk genre isn't always punk music and vise versa.

Punk lives on locally. The local punk scene in Melbourne is very active. It's only when bands become bigger and more commercialised that the ideal suffers. Punk is alive and well, just not available at your local music store which is exactly how it should be.
