  • Sociobiology! It's happening!

  • La inseparable cadena alimenticia... unos dependiendo de otros, todos conformando la unidad que permite cumplanos ciclos de vida.

  • so...

    have you tasted their honey?

  • beautiful, this reminds me of how much beauty there is in our world if we only stop and watch for a moment.

  • Indeed, sometimes it's so close we just can't see it because we run and run! :)

  • The reason why these aphids give honey to the ants is because the ants protect them and stand gaurd for them. The aphids pay them with honey. I learned this in my Natural History class.

  • Indeed, it is called symbiosis and it shows how all lifeforms are interlaced to each other. But as Mankind believes to be at the top of the food chain, he often doesn't give a damn... Thanks for commenting !

  • The Cree of philosophy relationship and inter-dependency is illustrated in a spiral, from the outside ring inward, each on a ring of the spiral, Creator-Spirits-Minerals-Plants-Animals-People. Each being dependent on it's predecessor, and interdependent on each other, except the most recent addition - People.

Even with the spiritual aspects removed and only the scientific hierarchy observed, people are dependent on all predecessors, they are not dependent on us.

    Great video!

  • Wrong.

The ants just harvest the spare glucose, which is excreted by the aphids 'cuz they leech a too concentrated fluid from the plant.

They don't want their source of honeydew to run dry, so they protect (and some kind of ants even breed) the aphids.

  • The aphids are not producing the sugary syrup exclusively for the ants. It is a byproduct of the aphids' digestion. The ants take advantage of this and protect the aphids because they provide that sugary substance. Either way the effect is the same. Both parties benefit from this symbiotic relationship.

  • Right.

The only reason the ants protect the aphids is because they don't want to lose this east food source. The aphids don't really need the substance because it is indigestible to them.

  • Then I guess that brings a deeper meaning to symbiosis and raise the value of leftovers!

  • Ant.s antenna rubbing.. just to show i much we can get with a simple caress. Also If all employers could be this way, working would be a pedicure! For the video..Nicely presented, a fiver.

  • That's true, symbiotic relations can be rewarding... but although this, I don't want my boss to rub his antennas on me, thanks !
