I was 15 & in Georgia, when Dear You came out. It was the best thing on radio aside from Bad Religion. Those were good days.

Blake's cleaner vocals actually caused the biggest dispute. this album completely divided the band's fanbase and alot of tension rose in the band about the direction of their music. not the popularity.

While it's true some bands like Fugazi and Rites of Spring were regarded as Emotional Hardcore/Post-Hardcore (and these were sometime shortened to "emo") ever since the mid-nineties the term was more or less hijacked by trendy suburban kids to the point where it's more easily associated with fashion than anything else. Ian MacKaye denies the emo classification as his music (and this music) is much more synonymous to punk.

Emo is generally regarded as a meaningless term. While it's true some bands like Fugazi and Rites of Spring were regarded as Emotional Hardcore/Post-Hardcore (and these were sometime shortened to "emo") ever since the mid-nineties the term was more or less hijacked by trendy suburban kids to the point where it's more easily associated with fashion than anything else. Ian MacKaye denies the emo classification as his music (and this music) is much more synonymous to punk.

Amazing Band. hands down! I remember being a huge fan of bivouac,and 24 hr, but was always reluctant of dear you.. until i bought it back in'99.. Since then dear you has been my favorite jawbreaker album!
