I to watch the boats everyday from my window and this defintaly NOT one of our boats from NS - NFLD. What a bogus video. Hope no one believes this and decides not to go on a boat.
This is not in Newfoundland.... This is a Ferry in Greece owned by NEL lines.... It's funny I have seen the same vid like 10 times with people claiming it's in 10 different places lol!
@82100NX777 the colour might fit for NEL lines, but it's not NEL lines, the ship here in the vid is the Suilven running between Wellington und Picton in Newzeeland for Straight Shipping LTD. she was in service on Cook Strait up to 2004 when sold to Bligh Waters Shipping Fiji Island
I was going to say does not look like a Marine Atlantic logo and not familiar. Not the Robert Bond although I don't know what happened with it, sold off or it it does any runs around the island or Labrador at all. They have started or already scrapped the Smallwood and Caribou in India.
@NovaScotiaNewfie the sir robert bond went through a two month re-fit in saint johns...shes now running load and go from lewisport to happy valley with freight and some passangers
I was gonna say no wonder our ferries are always broke down or running late but Our boats have two stacks ! But never the less this would have been a boat ride for the ages!
My grandfather helped build both the ferry to Newfoundland and the ferry to st.john THIS IS NOT EITHER BOAT. Are you ppl really that clueless just look at it. You tube the two ferrys and compair them if you cant tell. This person who posted this has way too much time on their hands as well as the ppl arguing that it is. Its Not newfoundlands ferry get over it!!!!!
Actually the boat to newfoundland has two blue stacks at the back of the boat. This boat is more simular to the princes of acadia the boat crossing digby to st. john. I traveled this boat every week for many years. Except the princes has Bay Ferries written on the blue just under the white on the boat. Both newfoundland ferry and st.john ferry look almost exactly like this boat and I can see the confusion. BUT we are not dumb enough to sail a boat in unsafe water like that.
it's not mariane atlantic....none of thier boats look like that...and as for it being filmed at the Bayside...the bayside sits on River Ryan, not the Atlantic Ocean....some people will believe everything they see on facebook...
This is not a Marine Atlantic Ferry going between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland - they do not cross in weather that rough . Someone with too much time or some other reason took the video Ferry from Hell (richard1974dutch) and just changed the title and removed his music
I've been on the Newfoundland-Nova Scotia crossing on different Marine Atlantic ships over the years in some nasty storms....but this is not a Marine Atlantic ship.
Ok People this is the MV Suilven which sails across the Cook Strait in New Zealand, This video was filmed by a couple of guys as the ferry was leaving Wellington in the North island to either Picton or Nelson in the South Island. Most passenger ferries run between Wellington and Picton an trip of about 3.5 hours but the Suilven also used to Sail to Nelson every other day as well.
It doesn't even look a bit like any of the ferries to me! Dunno how anyone came to the conclusion that that is a Marine Atlantic Ferry! Most of the ppl I know work on those boats for godsake!
this is The Suilven, an old caledonian macbrayne ferry, last heard of running cattle in new zealand. this video is pretty old tho so she could well be scrap by now.
it's funny the amount of folk who have copied this and made it their own and claimed to have been on the boat during this trip :-)
It's the MV Lief Erickson. It is a Marine Atlantic ferry that runs from North Sydney to Port Aux Basques. They only use her for freight and truckers now.
this is the newfoundland ferry, and its videotaped from the shore near the bayside in dominion, nova scotia. its not from new zealand or some stupid place on the other side of the atlantic ocean.
@wadmanlikesbeer1 Re maceachern003. He wouldn't reply here to my comment but sent me a personal message telling me I was delusional too. It's useless getting into a war of wits with him, he's unarmed!!
@maceachern003 The "bayside" in Dominion, N.S.? I don't think so. I see the Marine Atlantic Ferries coming and going everyday. This is not one of them!!
ONCE AGAIN! - It's the old Suilven from Lewis to Ullapool in Scotland. She was sold to NZ,and here she is in the channel between north/south Island -NOT Newfoundland!!
this is a ship called the suliven on a poor day crossing the cook strait in new zealand.she was originally a cal mac ferry crossing the minch from stornoway on the isle of lewis to ullapool on scotlands west coast she was sold to nz in 95 .she was an absoluteley lengendary seaboat sailing in all weathers crossings like you see here were comonplace for her .the day this was filmed six other ships were lost.last i heard she went on fire in fiji
is there ever a time when those ferry's don't cross? I would think that there should be some sort of safety issue for the passengers and the ferry would close down for passengers at a certain point in time when the water is rough like that!! I would be scared to death to get on this ferry, especially with small children. I think I would weigh my options and wait or if were a matter of getting to work then my job would not see me on that day............this is ridiculous.
@KristaDawn1985 that sounds more like it! I wouldn't think a ferry would dare "risk" their passengers in weather like this. Thank you for clearing that up. It sounds like a lot of people became slightlyt confused at this posting! Why would someone want to post this video and call it something that it clearly is not? Thanks again.
@KristaDawn1985 not 100% true, just like the video. they only cancel them when its a certain amount of wind at the wreck house. and the number is quite high. ive been on it when i believe it was 60 clicks at the wreck house and it was a rough ride, you had to hug the walls to walk. so it can get very rough out there. so they do not get canceled with just the slightest bit of wind. just thought id put it out there.
THIS IS NOT NEWFOUNDLAND. This video has had the audio removed; it was shot from Wellington, New Zealand showing a ferry departing into a Southerly. You can find the actual video with the audio if you search for "cook strait ferry."
Yup.. you're right.....this does not look like the Caribou or Joseph and Clara Smallwood. Although this is not NL I will a sure you I have been in these kind of waves crossing to NL ..as well as in a hurricane crossing from NS to PEI in much smaller boat....Very scary...but Fun!!!!
Me and a couple of friends are going to see AC/DC in Moncton so we got to cross over either by boat or plane. Three of us hate flying and the other guy hates the boats. We had a vote on flying or sailing and this was the outcome; 3 to 1! He lost the vote so were driving and going across the strait. I hope the weather is like this on the journey. This would really really freak him out. LOL!!!!!!!! I'm not afraid of the sea! Not yet?
This is NOT a ferry on the Nfld. to N.S. run ... there was a piece on our local news a few years ago about this vid and this is a ferry somewhere in New Zealand I believe ...
@perrydasavage yes its the Suliven leaving Wellington Harbour on Waitangi Day 2002 - I actually work for this Company and quite a few of my workmates used to work on that ship and can back me up too. Search for the Strait Shipping website and you will see photos of the Suliven on the website
Born and raised thank you very much. I've been on all of the ferries that travel to and from Newfoundland more times then you have probably changed your underwear. This video was also on CTV news to point out that in fact this is NOT a Marine Atlantic Ferry.
I left Newfoundland in July 1962 on the Newfoundland Ferry ( The William Carson I believe ) . It has been a long time , but something about this ship looks different . I can definately say that the seas were not this bad .
It is one of the ferries that runs between the North Island and South Island in New Zealand. This footage was taken as it left Wellington harbour during a southerly storm a couple of years ago. The Cook Strait on which it operates is pretty famous as being a nasty stretch of water for storms and strong currents. About a kilometre to the left of shot is Wellington airport - also famous for rough landings. Wellington, NZ is about as far away from Newfoundland as you can get....

Thats not the Newfoundland ferry idiots. It looks nothing like either of them. Plus they have policies and are smart enough notttt to go out in conditions like that.
Naturewatch dot org has an article "18 September 2004: Australian protest group Animal Liberation NSW circulates images of a livestock carrier ship, Strait Shipping's Suilven, leaving Wellington, New Zealand, in appalling weather conditions." This is the shipo in the photo.
why is this exactly the same video as "Straits Shipping Suilven in heavy seas" as posted by BootsSiR. For seven years Suilven ran between Wellington and Picton before being transferred to the Wellington to Nelson service in late 2002. She was sold and left for a new life in Fiji in April 2004.

Thats not the Newfoundland ferry idiots. It looks nothing like either of them. Plus they have policies and are smart enough notttt to go out in conditions like that.

NZ. It's the MV Suilven leaving Wellington, headed across the Cook Strait. This footage is from 2002.

Naturewatch dot org has an article "18 September 2004: Australian protest group Animal Liberation NSW circulates images of a livestock carrier ship, Strait Shipping's Suilven, leaving Wellington, New Zealand, in appalling weather conditions." This is the shipo in the photo.

Yeah , its going to nfld ..

why is this exactly the same video as "Straits Shipping Suilven in heavy seas" as posted by BootsSiR. For seven years Suilven ran between Wellington and Picton before being transferred to the Wellington to Nelson service in late 2002. She was sold and left for a new life in Fiji in April 2004.
