Do you see something a little off in this? If there can be a fix in something as high as Pride then here too you, like many things these days, might take a 2nd look.
Judging from the blow and her "reaction" this looks like a setup.
Fucking shit, stick to having babies cos that's what women do best, and cooking and cleaning of course. That skank with the mullet deserved to be knocked out for having such a shit hair style.
Lisa Howarth's courage was amazing. Still virtually semi-conscious, she struggled to her feet to face an opponent intent upon beating her senseless and somehow found a perfect counter. As they say, it's not the girl in the fight but the fight in the girl.
Did you see the knockout punch? I didn't. "Nora" had back to camera, went down. Can't tell how hard or even **if** she was hit. She was in no worse shape than her opponent had been and wanted to continue. I saw that.
I'm a bit confused as to what you mean. It was a classic case of a rising, undefended jaw throwing itself forward to meet a descending punch. Almost invariably a formula for oblivion.
Yes, it's **Lisa** whose back is to the camera as she throws the punch. Either way one cannot **see** the fist striking the jaw. Tell me the elapsed time if you can see it. To me the puncher's body blocks the view. The other girl going down is all you actually see. While women have learned to punch like men their thinner necks preclude ever taking as good a punch.
Two points. First, Nora is clearly still dazed when she rises. Second, her neck wasn't really a factor, since a blow of that kind when planted firmly on the point of the jaw sends a shock wave straight to the brain. The ref was right to stop it, particularly as Lisa would have reconnected with that jaw in a matter of seconds, whether with a fist, knee or foot.
I've read it's the "spinning" effect that causes the knockout when someone gets hit on the chin. Accordingly a fighter's strong neck muscles would reduce it. I won't second guess a ref. The sight of women punching each other is ugly, anyway.
There is sometimes a "spinning effect", but it's the shock wave to the brain that puts the lights out. I was KO'd a few times when I boxed and there's absolutely no pain, just confusion about what the hell is happening. It takes time for the head to clear and the boxer him or herself is not the best judge of what state they're in. Remember, the eyes are the only visible part of the brain, and the ref is looking right into them.
not necessarily. a stiff neck would merely transmit the shock to the skull more efficiently. KOs are caused by the brain banging against the fluid which surrounds the brain. If by strong you mean, "relaxed," then yes relaxed neck muscles would decelerate a KO punch and help dissipate the force.
I fail to follow your exact line of thought. Should boxers all have pencil necks in order to take a good punch? The banging of the brain inside the skull occurs when the head moves rapidly, especially in rotation as when the chin is hit. That's why getting hit "on the button" so often results in a k.o.
never said pencil necks are required, just a neck that is trained to absorb a punch. Look, it's less about development and more about sensitivity and relaxation, not tensing up and thereby "pre-loading" the structure of the neck. This is what I mean by it being easy to knock out someone with a "tight neck," often those which are very developed. One should just be relaxed. Tensing just makes it worse.
This is a question of comparitive anatomy. Women and men are built differently and one difference is that women's necks are less muscular. This came to light when the WAC's were disbanded and women got the same Army basic training as men. To build up their necks, women recruits were ordered to keep their helmets on almost at all times. A woman of 130 lbs will not take a punch to the jaw as well as a 130 pound man, all else being equal.
I think you are exactly correct, it happens in many fights. This is why fighters are taught that if they are hurt and they can continue to fight with all of the fury they can, thus the old best defense being an offense. In her hurry to capitalize on the hurt opponent, she got hit and then dropped her defense for an all out offense, she was hit by several blows prior to the one that canned her. Some big names have lost and belts changed hands in this exact manner. TMS
Randy observe the following quotes which prove you are some type of "Couch Cowboy Pinhead" Randy's Contribution so far: 1. "I've read it's the "spinning" effect that" -Keyword READ-2. "The sight of women punching each other is ugly, anyway"- Hey Brainiac, why are you hear flapping away if your sensibilities are so affected? Get a life you Pinhead, contribute a sensible statement from experience, or stick to TV.
Randy your assumption is ridiculous, their necks have nothing to do with it, you might take notice they are not fight men so therefore the relative body type differences if you lean to that debate do not figure into the equation. I think that withing two more years there will be no pro or semi pro fight cards that does not feature female fighters. TMS
Another dumb ass Turd statement by "Randy":While women have learned to punch like men their thinner necks preclude ever taking as good a punch" There are females walking around everywhere who could knock your "oh I'm so smart" ass right out. You are commenting back to the fellow above who obviously has experience from which to speak as it is just as obvious that you have none. I did not read all of the post before replying to yours or I certainly would have ignored your comments entirely.
i would have stopped on that first one too, it was pure luck she didnt get stopped one the first one, as bad the second kncokdown was, the first one should have been it, great fight.
I thought that the ref was an idiot for letting it continue you after the first knock down, obviously I was wrong. It's just that usually women don't have the ability to come back like this.
I still think he should have stopped it. A comeback(not necessarily a knockout, but still..) from one of the fighters is always possible, but in this case it looked unlikely to say the least. A slightly more likely scenario would be that she'd end up with more serious damages.
Yes, this would be my opinion if they were guys as well!
lesson:never give up. even if you get knocked down, you can come back & win...

I'm suspicious about this referee. I think he should have let her fight on for a few more seconds to see if she could defend herself.
