  • Horrible. Really horrible!

  • poor calves =(

  • Thanks for sharing that! Makes me wish I coulda been there.

  • LOL like whiny children being dragged out of the toy store. :) Question: what's the advantage of still branding cattle now that we have ear tags and such? Branding is pragmatic but it always seemed a little barbaric to me.

  • @vulturedoors

Ear tags help to distinguish some, but many ranches have thousands of cattle. If one were to get out or go missing, an ear tag wouldn't help, because it could fall out or be torn out. A brand is permanent. Hope this helps

  • @SpearFiveHorses ever heard of a little thing called a freezmark?? cheap, just as effective as branding but with no pain to the animal. hope this helps.

  • POOR COWS!!!!!!

  • Wish I could get my mustang mare there. Here, unlike in OK, they run larger ones into a squeeze pen & do it there. My mare is really cowy, & Id sure like to take advantage of that. :-)

  • We just done a clean up branding on the Thayer outfit on around 60 calves that weren't born at the first branding. A horse just hanging around a deal like this is worth 30 day's of riding in an arena.

  • @pdj47 I dont ride in an arena. You couldnt pay me to do that. lol. Ive got 14 acres next to the river, plus surrounding fields I can ride thru. I just dont get to do the same things in the same ways as I did in OK, and I miss that. :-)

  • LOL...NE is closer than OK so come brand with us sometime...

  • they are so cute! they look so sad sliding across the grass but then they're like "oh okay, all done"

  • u all got it made!!

  • were these calves getting knifed?

  • If you mean castrated, yes they were.

  • @pdj47 Yup that's what I meant. we just got through processing a bunch of grassers. would have much rather have done them at that size instead of 1000 ibs. That operation almost looks peaceful. I agree a deal like that is way easier on the calves. It's so fast that the calf knows there is somethings changed. He just can't quite put his finger on it. I guess there was no horns to knock off in that bunch was there?

  • Nope, no horns.

  • good video!

  • I've always wanted to participate in a cattle round up for the fun of the experience ^.^

    nice looking cattle ~.^

  • good stuff

  • I just like to show real working cowboys doing their thing.
