It's possible that the Magic Jack service uses Asterisk as it's PBX and voice mail system. I'm not aware of it though as I've no experience with Magic Jack :)
sorry I did a type error I meant besides installing the os, if just want to do a voip lab with two cisco 7940's, do I need any other hardware apart from an internet card on the host machine?
If you just want to make calls between the two 7940's you won't need anything more than the Asterisk installation and some cables and an Ethernet switch.
The ISDN cards or SPA9000 is only required if you want to dial out over the normal PSTN.
So, once I install asterisk, I need to convert the 7940's to sip then I can use them as regular phones in my network. I have a wrt300n and a cisco 1900 switch. So I should be ok, I am right? thanks
That's a magic Jack voice mail

No, it's the Asterisk voicemail system.

Thank you for your quick response Siftah,

When you say "regular phones on your network", they'll be regular SIP compliant IP phones on your network, yes.
You won't be able to use them to make outgoing calls to normal PSTN telephone numbers without a SIP provider or an ATA.

Siftah, if I use the linksys spa9000 can I still make calls outside? thanks again

Yes, the SPA9000 lets the VOIP network dial out over the PSTN.

I can't remember! I think it was one of the SIP clients that's available on Cydia (I jailbreak my phones).
There are a few SIP clients in the Apple Store now - it's worth investigating them as they're probably better than what I used.
